Verve Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I visited Verve twice in the last week or so. We enjoyed our meals very much on each occasion. We sat in the bar area the first time which was lively and fun. We tried the dining room on our second visit and the food and service were excellent. We will be back again very soon.
As always, Verve delivered! Time and time again, its offerings are outstanding and service excellent. We had a special occasion dinner for and with friends there recently and everyone was quite happy. I'd be hard pressed to recommend anything off the menu, because everything is just so good. It's a busy restaurant, so make reservations before you go.
Dining room is very narrow and tables very close together. Waiter seemed a bit confused. Food was good but prices were NYC prices and not commensurate with the food.
Bar are was small and crowded and loud.
I don't think I will be going back there again.
Especially with all the great restaurants in the area.
Our picky friends enjoyed their choices. Hooray!
My husband loved the pork loin and I will order the Scottish salmon again and again.
We had a problem with the desserts.
My friend found the cheesecake sour to taste.
My other friend was disappointed with the cheese board.
The only memorable taste was the creamy Gouda.
We all enjoyed our drinks.

My husband and I love to cook, so we don't go out often. We went to Verve for our 5th wedding anniversary. Based on reviews I had read, I expected more from the food. While my short rib was tasty, both my husband's and my soup was luke warm at best. His duck was also well overdone. Perhaps this was because they were getting ready for a Halloween party, but it was unfortunately a disappointing meal. I normally trust in the reviews of others to offer new dining opportunities that make a hit; however, this time it was a miss for me.
The food is fabulous here different items on the menu. The chef does amazing things with simple raviolis for instance. Went there had a bunch of appetizers with friends to sample different kinds of foods. I highly recommend to do this if you haven't eaten here before. Service was fabulous all the workers are friendly and great at their jobs
From the viewpoint of outstanding drinks, food, service & ambience, Verve has been & continues to be a winner. Proprietor Rick St Pierre has given Somerville (and Central Jersey) a great dining/drinking & social gathering establishment. Rather than concentrating on volume, Verve emphasizes quality, and for that we are grateful.
The restaurant was pretty dead when we first got there. The waitress seemed friendly at first but then was awful once we ordered. Soup was the only thing that was good, which for being dead... still didn't come out for about 20 minutes. My date and I both ordered the filet mignon special.. his cooked medium rare, mine medium well. His came out medium well, and mine was so over cooked it was gray inside. I feel if you are going to charge $42 per steak.. it should be cooked the way ordered. The waitress didn't come back to the table for 10 minutes after dropping our food! So by that time we didn't even want to send it back. All the restaurant did was take off a drink for our "troubles "... $140 check for 2 people and you don't even take off 10% for messing up BOTH entrees? Not satisfied AT ALL.. and Will NOT be returning. Don't waste your time or money.
Exceptional food - very well presented. Loved the specials. They make very interesting cocktails. The wait staff is well informed on the wine menu and had superb recommendations. They had a special event in the bar area that made the restaurant very noisy (couldn't hear my dinner companion over the noise), but that seemed to be a rare occasion. I have been here twice and would go back again. Appetizers, dinner, and dessert were all heavenly.
We've had a cocktail at Verve in the past, but never dinner. Really glad we did. Food was great.
And of course, their cocktails are fantastic. I described the type of drink I wanted to our server and the bartender concocted an original cocktail just for me. I would definitely recommend Verve!
A local establishment that we use to enjoy. This last visit was so disappointing. Were there for crabfest. Kitchen was backed up so much that our server said everyone was waiting. My husband ordered poached crab legs and was give two small crab legs not split and with no utensil to crack them with. Ask the server for something and he looked at him as if we had asked for something out of the ordinary. Was my husband to use his teeth? What horrible service and I won't even start on the price for those two crab legs. If I could leave a zero rating for this night out. I would. New renovation clearly caters to a larger bar crowd than a dinner crowd. Have always liked this restaurant. NOT SO MUCH ANYMORE.
Went for Crabfest. Crabs were delicious! My husband was able to have his steak because he did not eat crabs and he said it was delicious. My only complaint is the orange juice and grapefruit juice that you use for the drinks it was definitely canned and not very good. I would stick to Vodka with seltzer or something else.
We went for Crabfest. We both ordered the king crab legs sauteed in butter. Well they weren't kidding. There was so much butter it was dripping & you could taste the salt. Otherwise they were delicious. The stuffed fig appetizer was yummy too. It got a little loud in the downstairs dining area when I large party arrived. So I wouldn't recommend this for a quiet romantic dinner.
I ordered the spinach ravoli AAnderso-Dobbins it was creative and kinda perfect. It has roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, and crab meat. The flavors really worked. My waiter was in training, I have been there and remembered being thrown in the deep end. He did a good job. I did order a vodka based martini and it was gin based. I don't like him and sent it back. Other than that it was a great night. I've already appreciated the vibe of the Verve.. Since the early 2000's because it's where my staff and I would drink after closing. Great memories. I love it there. Don't change anything.
