The art deco style of the Hotel Alex Johnson is carried through in the custom-designed bar and wine cabinet that house a premium selection of whiskeys, beers, and wines at the perfect temperature. Our bartenders are schooled on all the classics, but if you want something with a bold twist, shake it up with one of our custom cocktails. We are a private bar open to Hotel guests and Vertex Members. If you are neither a Hotel guest or Member, you may make dinner reservations and pay a $25 cover charge. Outside seating is first come first serve. We look forward to seeing you!

Cynthia at the front desk was unfriendly and unhelpful. We had to ask several questions about why the large day charge just to eat there when we were dining with a reservation. Also he/she didn’t tell us when he/she gave the elevator key that it wouldn’t work till exactly 4 PM. So needless trips on the elevator. Frustrating. Our seat was perfect and the food was fabulous! What’s not to like about the rooftop where we ate our appetizer! Servers worked hard and in the beginning very attentive but as they got busy they became more scarce. Shorthanded I guess like everyone else. They were very pleasant and worked together as a good team!! The inside dining/ bar was VERY loud! We think it is a mistake to stop taking reservations. We may likely not come back as a result.

Great service! Priced too high for the taste of the meal. Waitress was a complete zombie walking around, could only imagine what drugs she was on. Our waiter although busy, was great! We’ll go back for drinks and skip the food!

We had a very enjoyable meal at Vertex. The outdoor options and views of the city would have been great except it was beginning to rain, so we stayed inside. The food was delicious, and we had great service from Jackson. Recommend!

Disappointed that this is a Curio Hilton Restaurant. Menus were filthy, table wasn’t the cleanest either. Food was served warm at best. Appetizer, Walleye fingers were the best part of the meal. Save your money.

It seems like they are making lots of changes. Know that you have to pay $25 to g et to the top floor iif you're not a hotel guest, but we weren't told that when we made our dinner reservation online.

You have to pay $25 (not an exaggeration) to ride up the elevator to the restaurant, unless you are a registered guest at the hotel! Server didn’t know anything about gluten, so several times assured members of our party that any dish could be prepared gluten-free, even though that proved not to be true. My husband elk ravioli was delivered 45 minutes after everyone else’s food was, and we had to leave the table, find a server and the. A second server to get it. Dessert also too more than 30 minutes to be delivered, but everyone has finished their coffee. We could not leave fast enough at that point. Don’t bother! Service was terrible, prices too high, and food was nothing special.

If you're not a guest at the hotel they charge $25 for a pass just to get to the bar. Luckily, they waived ours but we were sat inside despite having a reservation for outdoors. Our sever took our order then we never saw him until we asked twice about our food (we just had app and drinks). No one asked us if we wanted a second round and when we were finally going to just cancel the food and grab the check the salmon crostini arrived on stale bread with either bagged or canned salmon. Super salty. They took the app off the bill without our asking which was nice. But all in all it was really bad especially for the prices they're charging. We were celebrating my birthday, so it was kind of a bummer. The nicest encounter we had was with the person at the front desk before we went up to the bar.

Horrible experience. One kitchen, on second floor serves 3 places, the first floor pub, the catered parties and this upscale restaurant. They literally bring the food upon on the elevators to serve you. We waited for over an hour for the food to be delivered, it came cold, and our whole party was not served. When we complained, the did comp it, but they should not offer reservations if they cannot serve you. The food was OK. Some of the appetizers were very good. Overall, avoid, unless you want drunks and only appetizers.

We waited a really long time for our food...and several dishes were cold when they finally did arrive. Our waitress was great and attentive, and took care of our food orders, but we were celebrating a birthday, and couldn't even enjoy our food together. Our last couple visits have been okay, but this time was disappointing and definitely not worth the extra cost to go upstairs...

Level of service was outstanding, and quality of food was certainly acceptable but not necessarily outstanding. Not a large choice on the menu, but adequate and I do recommend the Elk Ravioli dish if one enjoys pasta. The weather was not conducive to dine outside which I believe would have been a positive. All in all, a reasonably okay experience.

We did not have a very good experience. Both meals came out wrong and 1 had to be sent back and took another 1/2 hour to get. We had to ask for water three times and it took forever for a waiter to come and refill or bring us drinks. Brandon was very nice and apologetic and did everything he could to make it a better experience so we appreciated him.

Customer service (Brandon), drinks, and view make this place. Food is good but beef and salmon dishes are continuously over cooked. Staff needs to learn the difference between well, medium, and rare and all iterations in between. That’s what’s going to change how many visitors you get. At $48 a pop, that steak better be done Correctly!

One member of our party didn’t receive food ($77)steak meal for over an hour while everyone else had already eaten and when it came it was cooked incorrectly, asked for drinks several times and didn’t receive them, for price and cost to come up NOT worth it and disappointed. Won’t be returning, military party and birthday celebration 🙁

It started a little dubious. We had made reservations but the table reserved for us was literally right beside another diner - not very romantic. But there was a small table near the guardrail that worked wonderfully. From then on… FIVE PLUS STARS! The drinks, appetizers, main course, dessert and especially the service were exceptional. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

Server was great, drinks were fabulous! (We recommend the badlands!) kitchen was behind or something so food took awhile, but server kept us in the loop and took 20% off for our wait. Food was really good, minus the crime brûlée.. would not recommend that.
