Great valentine's experience. Professional young yet experienced waiters. Delicious food. Attention to detail. Romantic setting. Reasonably priced.
The pressed lamb melts in your mouth, although the roasted vegetables are delicious, but leave you wanting more. Even so, I’d definitely order it again.
Unfortunately we were delayed by severe traffic jams and arrived 30 minutes late. We had tickets for the Centaur Theatre so we rushed though a fine dining experience with insufficient time to fully enjoy it.
After many years of good food and service, this year's edition Happening Gourmand was quite the letdown.
The staff was not very knowledgeable of their menu, we asked questions of which either they had no answers to, or answered something vague. Somewhat of a minor irritant, but hey, nobody knows everything right?
What really made the night an unremarkable was one of the main dishes, which was a rilette style pheasant dish, actually had many bones in it. We had advised the waiter on multiple occasions about the problem and had ask him to report it to the chef in the kitchen. He did not do any of the such, so we had to eat the food CSI style, as if we were trying to look for evidence, trying not to get stabbed by the crushed bones in the food. After carefully and painstakingly removing no less than 5 bones (1/4 toothpick sized), we presented the evidence to the waiter which shrugged it off, said "It happens" and threw away everything without showing it to the chef. It's not like if they were busy also, everyone was watching the Superbowl, so there were a grand total of 4 tables seated in the restaurant. At no occasion, he asked if we wanted anything else or if there was anything he could do.
When this kind of stuff happens, I don't usually go out of my way to ask for free things or anything of the such, so we paid the bill and left.
Even though 5/6 of their plates were delicious, we left the restaurant with a sour taste in our mouth.
We had heard from the staff that Verses was changing its mission from being a high end restaurant to more of a bistro kind of place, but didn't expect such a huge letdown.
This evening might have put an X on making Verses a must go for us during the next Happening Gourmands. Hopefully they can turn it around.
It was a nice experience so I would recommend the restaurant and the brunch was good. I was nonetheless disappointed as we were over-charged. I believe it was unintentional and it was corrected although not fully and it took some time... We ordered 3 normal Mimosa drinks at $10 each. The bill was more expensive than I thought but I went ahead and paid as I thought I simply hadn't evaluated properly since there were 4 of us. After paying, I just kept thinking that it shouldn't have been that high and checked the bill in detail and discovered we had been charged $23 for each Mimosa. We had specifically discussed with the waitress when ordering that we did not want their premium Mimosas. In any case, they immediately recognized the error and attempted to correct it. It took several minutes for them to figure out how to make the correction at which pointed they handed me $39 in cash. I knew right away that this was not the right amount as I had paid tax and tip on the original bill but was frustrated by the time and the inability to figure out the correct refund amount so just took the $39... Considering the tax and the tip, I should have been refunded $47.60 so still ended up paying extra. I don't think this is reflective of the overall restaurant and believe the people who tried to help just weren't familiar with the register but this still left a negative impression.
Always delicious, always elegant. My favourite restaurant in Old Montreal.
The setting is nice . The service is good however the food is ordinary.
C'était bien dans l'ensemble quoique je trouve que la qualité des plats ont un peu baissé depuis l'année dernière. Toutefois, ça reste une bonne valeur.
Very pleasant staff...Very good food and wine list in a nice atmosphere !!! I recommend it 👍
Good looking restaurant with a great staff. The menu Table d’hotes from the Happening Gourmand was really tasteful. Service was prompt and very friendly.
Went during their prix fix gourmand menu. Great value for top notch cuisine.
We went during Happening Gourmand. The food was good, but not great. My main course of braised veal needed salt badly. The appetizer was chicken veloute with smoked duck and was delicious. I paid $4 extra for the chocolate dessert. It was ok, a bit too tart.
The service was really bad. There was one waitress for the entire restaurant and we were never checked on. We had to order our wine several times as they kept forgetting to bring it to us.
Bonne bouffe, bon service mais prix du vin multiplié par 3 totalement inacceptable...
