Verses Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
One of the few spots in old port that actually has decent food these days. Expect it to be on the pricy side for what you get but it is still a nice spot for a more upscale meal (business dinners are a great ocassion). The night we were there, I think there was an event happening that occupied the server's attention and so we didn't receive as great of service as I would have imagined. The food was excellent quality and prepared very well. Love the local focus a lot.
Sunday Brunch Nov 19, 2017
First of all, the host prefered to greet a group who walked in after us. When it was finally our turn, we saw that our table for 6 had not been set up in advance, in spite of our reservation.
We all ordered first courses and were promised bread which came only after we reminded the server once we had finished our dishes. The main course was served over 30 minutes later while we noticed that other patrons were served much faster.
Desserts were finally served after we had all finished our coffees and teas and then again, there was a mix up with what had been ordered. To compensate, the desserts were not added to the bill. Thank you.
The lentil soup had a burnt taste, my main dish of smoked salmon egg benedictine was ok although I would have preferred a traditional English muffin instead of a sweet waffle and the banana/custard/whipped cream dessert would have been ok had the bananas not been sliced with a knife previously used for onions...
Extremely disappointed with the overall experience considering the prestige associated to Hotel Nelligan.
Service was slow/poor/mediocre and very amateurish. Food was no more than acceptable. Decor was beautiful.
Great dinner out for a group of 5. We had the set menu for MTLalaTable which offered a number of options for each course. We all ordered something different and all really enjoyed our meals (High marks for the lentil soup and the four gras parfait...and risotto). Have dined at Verses many times and will do so again!
We arrived 15 min before out reservation time, but resto was not ready to open so we had to sit in the lobby of the hotel. There was 4 other party that also arrived early and had to wait outside of the dining area. I recommend resto to be ready to receive patrons 15-30min before reservation.
The brunch choices during the montreal a table is a hit or miss. In general the salads are quote bland and lacking dressing. The soufflé was boring with a few pieces of lard. Fortunately, the merguez was spot on and cook perfectly.
Service was impeccable and friendly. The ambiance is very warm and relaxing.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Old Montreal we always eat here.
We had an unfortunate experience with the service. The manager of the restaurant was very accommodating to make it right as best as she could. I would not let this stop you from eating at this restaurant.
Verses is one of the $$$$ high end french restaurants in the Old City. At a different price point it would have been find- at the rarified prices- needed to be much better. 1: for that kind of meal I like table cloths, maybe I'm picky; 2. the waiter was quite friendly but didn't know the details of the menu or how to describe the items-water, iced tea didn't get refilled.... again ok at lower price 3. chestnut soup, ok- not paticularly flavorful 3. foie gras 4 stars if only the rest of the meal were up to it 4. pressed lamb- tasty except for the parts that were dried out. 5 Carot cake desert - fine
We had excellent service at Verses, but our meal didn't really have the wow factor we were looking for. When the waiter heard we were celebrating an anniversary, he asked if he could bring us something special. Dessert was absolutely fabulous, but we were surprised to be charged for it considering the way he asked. The ambiance was nice. It was a pretty spot, but we've had better food at half the price.
The food is just ok. We had the lobster and Ravioli for starter. Lobster was fine but, not great. Ravioli were undercooked. For dinner we had the magret de canard, the pasta and the Steak Filet. The Magret was ok, the pasta was awful and the steak was good. Only thing they made an error on the order for the steak so I had to wait for my plate. The supervisor did his best to make our dinner experience better but, it was already tough to come back from. Probably won't be back.
Beautifully designed contemporary space. Everyone working there was extremely attentive and friendly. Menu is creative, simply elegant and unpretentious. Quiet, comfortable ambience allows for relaxation and conversation. Amazing value at perfect location in Old Montreal. This is likely to be the one place where we would return next time in Montreal.
Took close to 30minutes to get a cocktail "because the bar was busy", no water offered and the food was tiny (monkfish the size of a 50 cent piece.) I ordered a cocktail prior to dinner a a glass of white wine with dinner and the waitress tried to bring both out at the same time with the entire! The place was not busy - no excuses. Would not recommmend.
