About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Fancy
  • Good for business meals
Vernick Fish presents Philadelphia’s own, Chef Greg Vernick’s exploration beyond the boundaries of a seafood restaurant. His ingredient-driven cooking style, paired with a love for global flavors, results in an inventive menu of fish and shellfish dishes, and a range of vegetable preparations. Taking a detailed, seasonal, and sustainable approach with small and large plate offerings, the kitchen brings new life to the favorite hallmarks of American oyster bar fare and raw bar. Complementing the experience are well-crafted cocktails, and a focused wine list of seafood-friendly white and sparkling offerings, as well as light, fresh reds.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Greg Vernick and CDC David Paterniti

From the OpenTable editors: Sleek interiors meet thoughtful service at this celebratory Logan Square seafood spot. James Beard Award-winning chef Greg Vernick walks the line between innovative and nostalgic with dishes like sardines on sourdough toast and grilled scallops that are masterclasses in careful sourcing and precise preparation, but also wipe-your-plate-clean delicious. If you’re toasting to something special, get one of the hard-to-find spirits or wines from the top-notch drinks program.

Had high hopes for Vernick Fish given all the hype, but unfortunately, the experience fell flat. For the price point, I expected much more — both in terms of food quality and service. The dishes were just okay — nothing particularly memorable or exciting — and definitely not worth the steep bill at the end. What really made the night disappointing, though, was the service. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive, almost like we were an afterthought. We waited way too long between courses, and no one checked in to see how things were or if we needed anything. Overall, it felt like we were paying for the name, not the experience. I won’t be rushing back.

This was my first visit to VF to celebrate my wife’s birthday. My daughter made it a party of three, for which I made reservations months ago. The venue consists of one large contiguous space which accommodates the kitchen, a bar area and the dining room stretching along a long corridor with very a high ceiling. It was crowded and noisy with the ambiance of a train station waiting room. The venue is regarded as one of philly’s finest dining destinations specializing in seafood with prices ranging from $20-40 for appetizers and $40-80 for main courses. Raw bar choices are priced accordingly. Our expectations were high and from a culinary perspective we were not disappointed. The food was delicious. I have two small complaints about the service, however. First, it took an inordinately long time to get two of our cocktails (almost twenty minutes), which arrived after we received our appetizers. Second, although I indicated on our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, there was no mention of it by the waitstaff, nor did we receive the customary courtesy dessert. That was a disappointment. Overall, I would categorize this establishment as a good place for a business lunch or dinner on expense account, but not an ideal venue for a family dinner or celebration.

Probably the best restaurant I’ve been to in Philly. Incredibly fresh and well made. However, it was very very cold in the restaurant and quite old and fancy vibe which would not have been my preference.

A classy establishment in the Four Seasons. Everything coming out of the kitchen is done to perfection . A bit pricey but you get what you pay for . The crab cakes special was perfect but the yellowtail rice bowl was divine
