Wait staff was on point, we never had an empty water glass or a dirty dish on the table. The restaurant had live music that wasn't overpowering. We were able to enjoy a nice dinner and conversation.
Only complaint: Just a little to much salt on the linguine and clams.
The food was presented beautifully on the plate, and tasted fantastic. Our wait staff was very friendly and professional. My only qualm was the appetizer and dinner salad came at the same time on our small table.
I truly enjoyed the atmosphere, it was quiet and relaxing. I will be back.
My second time here, and I brought friends because the first time was so good. And they didn't disappoint!! All amazing food, great ambiance, beautiful music, comfortable seating, and an all around great time with the perfect touch of class. Will definitely be back!! ❤️💯❤️💯❤️
I had a reservation and ended up bunched in between people next to me that we were far too close for a separate party on both sides. I will say the wait staff was friendly which was the only positive from the evening. The food was below average...The bathroom smelled… and I think the value was not good.
My hope was that my second experience there would be better than the first however it was pretty much the same. It’s unfortunate because I think Jackson needs another nice dining option.
We went to an early Valentines date..... this is the 5th time we have been. It’s never consistent. The presentation was horrible! The food looked like it came from Bob Evans... and they clearly use a ice cream scooper. I expect more for a $30 plate. My husband had the steak and it was salty and the veggies were burnt. It’s overall disappointing.
Best steak that I’ve ever had. My wife and I really enjoyed this place and will definitely go back.
The food there never disappoints. The filet is seasoned so well. Lydia is always very warm and friendly when we walk in the door. She is such an asset to Veritas! We absolutely love Ian Stewart as our entertainment during dinner. He is perfect for such a place. We will be back!!!
Overall this is a nice place and I will return. The oysters were wonderful and I’m pleased to find another place to enjoy them. So, I hope they care enough to do a few simple things to make the place great and not settle for the “ it was pretty good” experience we had.
I had the Tuna- it was decently priced and tasted fresh. But it needed a sauce or something extra (wasabi, ginger glaze, soy, anything to take it from fine to fantastic).
The place had many open tables and we were seated at a small two top. It was right in the middle of the service highway so it was not peaceful. Moreover it was cold. I mean coat on cold. They had a small space heater that was an oil filled radiator style, set up. They would let it heat up, unplug it, roll it to our table and say “ we’ll be back in ten minutes to plug this back in but for now we hope it helps.”
I didn’t ask or push but why on earth did they seat us at a table when they knew it was to cold? Especially when they had at least a dozen other choices?
It was our first time here and our experience was good enough to give them another try. But the basic theory of hospitality is to make your guests comfortable. Sitting us in a high traffic area spot that is so cold they were using a space heater was a mistake only a place that is run by inexperienced folks or uncaring people would make. And, not seasoning the tuna or offering a garnish, dip, sauce to make it pop indicates the same.
They can get better with only a little more attention to detail. I think they will. But if our next visit is like this one we’d have no reason to give them a third try.
We have dined at Veritas a few times and tonight’s dinner experience topped them all. From the service to the food, everything was top notch. We made reservations for two at 5:30 and were immediately seated at a high top table for two. My wife and I started with 1/2 dozen oysters on the half shell that were fantastic and a bottle of Chianti Classico. The oysters were so fresh and bright. It’s great to have a local place where you can get fresh oysters. My wife went with the grilled walleye with polenta and mushrooms. You couldn’t have cooked the fish any better. The polenta was fluffy and delicious. I went with an amazing cioppino. It was so good. I wish it wasn’t just a special but a part of the regular menu. The broth was full of flavor with an awesome touch of smokiness. Plenty of seafood to make it just the right kind of heartiness. I would get it again and again if possible.
Service was excellent. Nice wine selection. The sushi was outstanding. Great bar area.
The food and the ambiance were excellent. We had a party of six with 3 that hadn't dined at Veritas yet. Everyone had different entrees. Everyone was very impressed with their meals. Our waiter, Skyler, was the best server I have had there. Timely - friendly - very professional. Others servers have had have been slow. The saxophonist provided a great atmosphere.
Loved the relaxed atmosphere and all of the pleasant staff. Live music was not too loud so that we were still able to hold a nice family conversation. The price was reasonable for the delicious food! Loved the sautéed mushrooms and believe it or not, the black beans and rice were super.
Was quite expensive, and quality was not to the level of the cost. Ribeye had good flavor but was a thin cut, potatoes had good flavor but were cold, but had a good perfect pour of woodford. Bread was hot and good. Service was attentive.
The waiter did a good job although it was slow at times. Food was just ok which for the price is not good enough. My Filet was not a great piece of meat and was over done on much of it. I ordered it medium.
Excellent!! Chante our server was exceptional. The food was delicious. More of a Chicago feel than Jackson (for sure)!! We will definitely be back. Other reviewers said it was slow. We felt it was perfect. Not rushed at all with enough time between courses to enjoy conversations and each other’s company but not so much time that you felt forgotten. A great restaurant experience and addition to downtown Jackson.
I've been here for lunch a few times and dinner on NYE. The food is outstanding and the restaurant has wonderful ambiance. Unfortunately, there are definite issues with service. During one lunch, our server disappeared for some time. We realized it was because she had so many other tables. On NYE, our reservation was at 8:00 p.m. and we weren't seated until 8:40 p.m. Bar service and food service took a rather long time as well. I'm chalking these experiences up to working out the kinks of a new restaurant and a holiday. The food truly is worth enduring wait times.
I went to Veritas with my wife on a very busy New Year Eve night; the food and service was very good. The ambiance was a little "off" due to the holiday, I think, but it was overall a great night out.
Not good not bad. Food was ok but not great especially for the price. Sushi was not good.
Veritas had the best French Onion Soup I have ever eaten.
This was the worst dining experience from beginning to end I've experienced. What's worse is it lasted two and a half hours because of the server. In my opinion the best dining experience in Jackson is shared between AKA Sushi and The Grand River Brewery. I will never return to Veritas for a series of grand scale misses. I will drive to Chelsea and Ann Arbor for a higher end dining experience.
Entree was seasoned with garlic.
Long wait time for entree to arrive.
Fish was dry and medium prime rib served rare.
Dirty murky fish tank.
No salad dressing alternative.
Disappointing dinner. Our party of 10 went for a birthday celebration and a couple of us wanted the Scottish salmon. But they were out of it. Also out of a beer a member of our party requested. One steak was ordered medium-well but it came out med-rare, so we had to wait to have it cooked more. Then, while our server was extremely nice, service was extremely slow. Took us almost three hours from start to finish.
Excellent food, good atmosphere, very friendly and efficient service from all staff.
This was our fifth time dining at the restaurant since it opened & each experience is worse than the time before. Sadly we canceled our next reservation and we have no plans of returning. If this is the best the Jackson has to offer this town is in serious trouble. Last week we dined here and our 30-year-old son pointed out that no one ever offered to get him a second drink and I ended up piling up all the dirty dishes and physically handing them to the waiter to get them off of our table After looking at them for 45 minutes. The food is good but it appears that they are not adequately staffed or that the staff is poorly trained. On this current visit our meal had to be re-cooked two times in order to get it done properly and we were there for 3 1/2 hours. If we want a nice meal we will drive to Ann Arbor, Chelsea or Lansing.
It is so nice to visit a restaurant that is not deafeningly noisy. What a transformation from the former two restaurants that occupied that space---both extremely noisy. Veritas has done a great job of abating the ambient noises common to all restaurants. One can actually quietly converse with dinner partners.
We made a reservation even though it was not required and seating took as long as a walk-in. The wait for initial contact was longer than expected. The food was very good, recommend the Chicken Tortellini, delicious. The Key Lime desert was also excellent. The restaurant was remarkably cold where we were seated. Veritas touts locally sourced fare but only two Michigan wines were offered. Overall it was an “just OK” dining experience, still lacks the polish of upscale venue.
We've tried Veritas twice now on a Sunday evening. And while we love the location and ambience, we've been disappointed in the food both times. Spinach salad was so heavily dressed, it was inedible. Ocean Angel Hair had very little seafood or sauce - just a pile of dry pasta. Caterpillar Sushi was so loosely rolled, they fell apart and had to be eaten with a spoon. Meunier fish plate was swimming in butter, with creamed spinach put right on the same plate. It was a gooey, drippy mess. That said, Crab Cakes were outstanding, nice wine selection.
Really want to see this place thrive -- but kitchen really needs to get their act together.
Waitress was outstanding. She anticipated our every need. The food was excellent. We had the salmon and it was excellent and prepared just right. The portions were too big, especially the vegetables and potatoes. Ambiance was tasteful and well done. The restaurant was quiet and no crowding of tables.
Seemed overpriced for dishes I could get someplace else for cheaper. Seating felt awkward, close to others and small 2 person tables. Alcoholic drinks did not match descriptions on menu. Service was good and the feel of the restaurant was good. Can still tell it is fairly new and working out some kinks.
Food was excellent. Our service was good, a little slow, but overall not that big of a deal. If I were on any type of timeline I would choose Veritas to dine at.
The food was Fabulous. The space has been beautifully remodeled.
Reservations were at 8:00 and I specifically asked for a table by the bar. When we got there it took 10 minutes for us to be seated in a section I did not request. We ewaited 12min before a waitress even came over to say hi, by the time she did we already knew our drink and food order which we gave her. It took another 16min for our drinks to come out. For as expensive as this place is you would think the staff would be more attentive. The food was outstanding but the service needs a lot of help.
8:22 waitress come to table
8:38 drinks arrive
9:00 food arrives
Had a great time!
Visited for the first time for our anniversary dinner. It was easy to make a reservation and we were seated promptly. Our server, Star, was very warm and friendly. We got drinks, an appetizer and main dishes and we were pleased with everything! The only thing I can think of that I didn't love was how small the table was for the two of us. You could barely have two plates and a drink and on each side. Other than that we really enjoyed our visit.
A very nice restaurant for the downtown area. Quiet atmosphere unlike the past occupants of the space. Drinks are great. Apps and sushi were delicious. I feel some of the main courses have room for improvement but overall good. Will definitely be going again.
We enjoyed our dinner. Service was very good. Dinner was prompt. Ambiance was alright.
Took over an hour and twenty minutes for us to get our food. We came for our reservation an hour and a half before a show we had bought tickets for, and almost cancelled our meals. Instead, we had to rush through our meal to make it to the show on time. Not a great experience. Appetizers and salad was good, but I can’t even really remember the entree since I barely was unable to finish it.
Great service and food
