Verde Ratings and Reviews
Great Brunch Spot. My husband's pizza was delicious and the crust was phenomenal. The pizza was made in a wood-fired oven that I could see from my seat. The restaurant takes "cozy" to the extreme as it was very busy with lots of tables crammed into a small space. There were tables outside but since it was cold, no one was seated outside. I imagine that would take some pressure off the tiny dining room. The place has a real neighborhood feel and I can't wait to go back for more pizza!
Our waitress was great, but the walkway through the restaurant from the kitchen cut very close to our table. My boyfriend went to scratch his leg and almost knocked into one of the waiters. Definitely not a comfortable atmosphere. We constantly felt like we were in the way. Food was underseasoned, and to be honest might not have been seasoned at all. We were disappointed to find that the vegetarian and vegan options were lacking flavor. The red sauce on the pizza tasted canned/had no depth, and the cashew cream was not even halfway as good as the stuff we make at home or have had at other restaurants (a dash of acidity would have greatly helped it out). I really wanted to like this place, but the saturation of the pizza market in the city has set my expectations pretty high.
We went for a family dinner and sat right by the kitchen but would have never known from the noise. It was really cool to watch them prepare the food. Our server was outstanding she was so nice and upfront with us about how long our food would take since it was a very busy night. Overall the meal was excellent as usual!
This was our second time here and it didn't disappoint. Everything is fresh and delicious. The pizza is phenomenal. My only criticism would be that the condiments on the charcuterie board are a bit skimpy. As far as food quality goes, this place is as good as it gets. You must try their handmade burrata!
Our server saved the moment. If it where not for him we would have left. We were not told that they were only serving a set menu. The hostess who sat us down did not tell us, but the server who we were supposed to have did. It seemed like we were her last table and she wanted to leave. He took us over and gave us the normal menu.
When in Baltimore I always have to make a pilgrimage back to Verde, where the brick oven pizza is the best I’ve ever had. The pistachio pizza is a must! Don’t ask questions - just order it. We had the meatballs and the buratta apps, which were also amazing. Really great neighborhood gem, but easily accessible from all parts of Baltimore.
The food at Verde is outstanding! We eat here whenever we are in Baltimore. It is not a touristy place at all, more of a neighborhood restaurant. But it is worth the cab ride to this restaurant for the high quality, delicious food. On this trip we started with the beet salad. It had big chucks of fresh beets with just the right ratio of cheese and pistachios. Then we had a burrata pizza. The cheese was creamy and delicious and the basil leaves on top were as big as a slice of the pizza. We also a grilled eggplant pizza. The crust on these gourmet pizzas is soft and just-right chewy and has the right amount of "char" from the wood fire.
I will say that the service was rushed on Friday night. I felt like my waitress was never looking directly at me, but was thinking ahead to what she needed to do next. I would have like more time between my appetizer and pizza. We were in and out within an hour. Neither the waitress nor the hostess were inclined to help call for a cab. Overall, I felt the waitress could have been more attentive during and after the meal.
I am passionate about burrata cheese , and Verde has hands down, the best homemade burrata I have ever tasted. Their craft cocktails, wine list and even the bread is top notch.
The pizza is inventive and delicious. Ambiance is bit loud, but worth raising your voice for!
While the food was delicious and service at our table was good, getting to that point was a feat. I wasn’t expecting to be seated right away without a reservation on a Friday night, but the hostesses were not exactly helpful. First they said they were booked for the night and still seating people with reservations. They then told us we’d have a 40-minute wait, so I decided to check open table to see if I could find a reservation. I quickly found a reservation for two, 8 minutes from the time I was booking it. I felt a little weird about doing that, so I asked the hostess if I could book a reservation online, to which she responded, “the choice is yours”.
While waiting for our table, my friend and I sat at the bar to get a drink. The bar tender didn’t wait on us for 6 or 7 minutes and then told us it would be a 15-minute wait on cocktails and proceeded to show us the long list of drinks he had to prepare. We were seated at our table not too long after and had a lovely time once we were seated. However, I felt like I was constantly apologizing to my friend who was visiting from out of town about our experience thus far. All in all, I would recommend Verde strictly for the food and drink, but not for the service or environment. Or might suggest going there on a week night for a better ambience.
the roasted olives were not roasted, taste like they came out of a glass jar from the supermarket. The pizza dough is not good. Soggy, tasteless, rubbery. I know pizza especially from Naples. This place is not Italian. I think they bake the dough beforehand and put it in the fridge or on a shelf. It was a busy night, perhaps that was the problem. But here's the think, if you are good at something you need to make it good all the time. Sorry guys. BTW: if you order anything extra on your pizza, it comes uncooked and on the side. Huh?
