Vein at Kaka’ako
Food was delicious and the service was very attentive. The wait staff made helpful suggestions. I had the rapini and prosciutto penne and it was very tasty (and I usually prefer tomato sauces on my pasta). We started with a nice salad of beets and greens. My spouse had the osso bucco and enjoyed it (especially after taking the waitresses suggestion to smear the bone marrow on the meat!). We will definitely be going back!
Tako appetizer was excellent, all the rest was good food but below expectations
Great new spring menu and daily specials. Friendly staff and engaged management.
Had a great lunch. Will definitely be back to try their new Spring menu.
Excellent! Salads and appetizers are big enough to share and the scallops entree was fabulous! Highly recommended.
The food was really good and different. Our server was great. The atmosphere was nice. We were super late to our reservation but it was ok. Hopefully next time we can sit at the table directly in front of the kitchen.
Glad they brought the Osso Buco back and featuring more wines. Grilled taco saled great as usual. Great cozy friendly atmosphere. You can tell they are passionate about what they do.
Food nicely presented, tasty. Good service. Fun place for a get together.
food and service great. good to seat at the bar and watch them in action and talk to head chef.
This is another one of Honolulu's small place but great food and service. Three of us for lunch--each ordering something different and all of us loving the food and the service which was on spot (not too much and not too distant). I have recommended it before and doing so again. Located at The Salt at Kaka'ako, it is convenient for people in town and if you are coming from outside Honolulu, Salt has a parking lot and validated parking that will bring the cost down to around $2. There are a few places in Salt that are pretty good, but so far this is the best. Give it a try, you won't go away disappointed.
I was disappointed that they were out of 2 kinds of gelato. I was celebrating my birthday & I wanted dessert!
Visited here for a late Valentine's Day dinner. Arrived in the mood for some pasta and the Sausage and Scamorrza pasta did just the trick. Great balance of flavor and spice in the sausage crumbles and felt like just the right portion amount. My wife had the Uni carbonara to be a bit adventurous and found it to be delicious for Uni (sea urchin) novices and connoisseurs alike. Warm bread pudding with cool gelato for dessert was also a great combination to end the meal with! It's a cool space and imagine it would be great on a clear night for prime people-watching throughout the Salt complex.
Good place for a simple business meal. Convenient location and good food.
Unfortunately disappointed with this place. We went for lunch, but the lunch menu was NOT a good selection of dishes. We asked the server if the dinner option was available for lunch, but they said no. That was not good news for us since all the food people have been raving about are ALL dinner menu dishes. I was surprised to hear them say no to dinner menu, since its more expensive. Why would you say no? lol any ways. Our server was also not very good at her job. Out of the 4 of us, three ordered the burger. 2 of them came along with my dish, but it literally took over 20 minutes for the last burger to arrive. Okay, maybe kitchens fault. But as a server who is responsible for the table, she should at least acknowledge how late his food came and apologize. Nothing. She just dropped his food in front of him and left. After that, she never came to check on us to ask how things are, until at the very end (mind you, we were done for about again, 20 minutes) when she finally came to drop off the check. I'd try again for dinner since we were not able to eat ANYTHING on the dinner menu, but until they improve, I will pass on lunch.
The food was fabulous! Our table was just inside the door so it was chilly. Next time we will ask to sit in the main dining room or at the Chef’s table.
We ordered the burrata appetizer and the bread was stale and not toasted at all. Also the burrata wasn’t fresh and the Prosciutto seemed store bought. There are some amazing bread shops in Honolulu, they should look into ordering from them.
Also we had the crudo. The fish was delicious but the ponzu sauce was laking flavor and didn’t do the fish any justice.
Both entires were delicious. We had the Risotto & Snapper.
It was a cold and rainy night so we were a little apprehensive about eating at an open air restaurant! They had my reservation but the change in number from 4 to 5 through the OPEN TABLE app didn't get transmitted to the restaurant. After some spur of the moment changes we were seated comfortably. Our waitress was very sweet and very young. Everyone enjoyed their food and wine. It was a lovely evening. I ordered my rib eye steak well done but it came still pink in the middle. I just ate the edges and took the pink part home to cook thoroughly for lunch. All and all, it was a great night!
Service was good, as well as the food but price is not congruent.
We ate on the early side so there was not a huge commotion. The server needed to be more knowledgable and versed on the restaurant, food and drinks the was serving. I really felt she would have been better suited for subway sandwiches.
The food was ample and satisfying. The seating was very comfortable. I would return but hopefully with a server who takes pride and knows her 'inventory'.
Food & service are excellent!
Perfect for family/friends gathering.
Thanks to the wonderful staff that took time to ensured my disabled guest was comfortable seated.
This is a great place to have a relaxing dinner before a concert at Blaisdell.
Great food, good value and beautiful presentation. Great ambiance and very friendly service. Consistent experience ever single time.
The manager gave us excellent recommendations. The flat bread short rib sandwich was excellent. I had a question on my bill from my last visit....he took care of it very efficiently...very impressed with his attention to the matter.
other than having to walk past it a few times because of the signage, Vein turned out to be a great bon voyage dinner for some friends heading back to ATL.
The Uni Carbonara was ok,,,,maybe the addition of some chunks of uni to take it over the top.
The Lamb Chops charred excellently was the highlight of the entrees.
The skin on pan seared snapper was good too.
Bread pudding w/ vanilla ala mode was the topping to the nice evening
Our server was excellent. Food was subpar and overpriced. Would not go back.
I went for my favorite gargonzola and pear flat bread - but was disappointed when we were seated and told that they had no pears!
Attractive restaurant to which we have now been twice. I think there is too much sea food on the menu for those that don't eat sea food. The restaurant was very noisy and I felt the maître d' was unfriendly when we asked for a different table. It's new and we'll go back again. One person in our party did not like his pasta entrée at all. The lamb was very good.
The ambiance was nice - I like the contemporary, rustic look. We ordered the bone marrow with uni butter, crab cakes, uni pasta, filet mignon w/ Kaua'i prawns and prosciutto pasta. The uni pasta was more on the pepper side so I couldn't really taste the sauce. All other dishes were good. I would go back again for dinner.
Read it on Yelp
My wife and I had been to Vein on two prior occasions ... once for dinner and once for lunch. We enjoyed our experience there both times. Unfortunately, our New Years Eve dinner was below average. At $100 per plate we were expecting a higher quality menu. The first two courses were salmon and ahi and somewhat mimicked each other ... sushi and sauce. The ahi was served on grilled bread ... very uneventful. The filet mignon was average at best. Great service at the bar! Charity was great! Would go back for lunch but not for dinner.
We had dinner befor attending the Bill Maher show New Year’s Eve. The preset menu was incredible.
End of year dinner with friends.
Thought it was bit pricey but taste was good. Had lamb- excellent but needed a starch.
Felt we were being rushed into ordering but food came out in good timing
Food was tasty and creative, but was a little expensive for what you got.
The food was amazing! The flavors were on point. However, every dish my friends and I ordered were at our table within 10 min. of ordering (I wasn't halfway through my first drink). It still feels like a young restaurant that needs to learn to course the dishes out and provide time for guests to get through 2 to 3 drinks throughout the meal. My friends and I were done in less than 40 min. Furthermore, I found an issue with them turning away guests due to "reservations" while the place was empty. With how quickly they served our food or would have been no problem to sit a walk-in before a scheduled reservation. Though in the time we ate, no scheduled reservations walked in but they did turn away at least 4 walk-ins.
Our Christmas dinner me & fiancé. Our dinner was excellent! Thank you chef Dell well done.
We went for Christmas Eve dinner and they had a special menu. I heard great things about the uni pasta and other dishes but when we looked at the menu they didn't have the items that we wanted to try. I loved my seafood curry dish. The curry was light and had a good balance. The lamb chops could use a small starch and maybe one less lamb chop. Overall, for the price I felt it wasn't worth it in comparison to other restaurants with the same price point. We will have to try this restaurant again during normal nights to taste their regular menu.
The food is excellent and the service outstanding!
We had a company Christmas Lunch there. The decor of the restaurant is very inviting, kool and hip. Food and Service was Awesome! Lunch menu was small but something for everyone. Highly recommend.
This was our first visit here. Though the menu was different online from what was offered, our disappointment at not having some of the dishes available was quickly dispelled by the quality of the dishes we selected. We had a party of five and everyone was very happy with our dining experience. The first surprise was being seated in their private room. It gave our evening a special touch, in spite of the somewhat chilly AC for us local folk. Dishes that stood out were the: Snow Crab Cakes (very flavorful and a generous serving good for sharing); Rissoto (it was so good that I would have been happy with that alone; it disappeared in a flash that we had to order another starch); and Panna Pasta (so very delicious that I could have kept this one to myself as well). We were all very impressed with the preparation, presentation and serving size our different mains. I had the Snapper which was perfectly cooked with just the right seasoning. The two who ordered the Lamb were very pleased with the perfect doneness of their chops. The Short Rib was fork tender, very flavorful and a generous serving. The Scallops were also perfectly prepared (tender and flavorful) and generous. The bread pudding and creme brûlée desserts were a just the right culmination to a fine meal. Looking forward to returning.
Food was great. Sit at the counter so you can talk to the chef and see the food prep. Very friendly staff. Great service. Try the lobster crab cake, uni pasta and lamb. Will definitely return.
