Vein at Kaka’ako
Mon–Sat 5:00 pm–10:00 pm
Sun 5:00 pm–9:00 pm
Well seasoned and cooked but flavors not complementary.
We went for a nice dinner before the Kevin Hart show. The food was very salty. The menu was bland and so was the food. To many servers not enough patrons. The service was great:) The presentation of the food was beautiful.
This place is so cozy and the service is great, everyone from the host to bartender and servers greeted me as I came in and when I left. The food surprised me! I wasn't too familiar with the menu but I enjoyed everything we got and the dishes were very creative. I came here on a business lunch and decided to book my holiday party here. You can order family style and sit outside or inside, so many different forms of seating. This is a small place so I recommend a reservation. Can't wait to go back!
Love this place! The employees are friendly and offer great service.
I must say I have been to Vein at Kakaako several times since their recent opening and I am ALWAYS so AMAZED at how FIRST CLASS the food and service is!!!
Their seasonal menus are are a great way to try a variety of delectable dishes.
The staff and management are so accommodating and so polite.
Will DEFINITELY recommend to everyone who wants an unforgettable dining experience!!!
FIVE ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ STARS!!!!
Kitchen was out of three dishes and even more ingredients. Tried to pass off a watercress salad as the butter lettuce salad I ordered. Dude, diners know what butter lettuce looks like. Arugula on my pasta included leaves that had turned bright yellow. Tako was tough and rubbery.
Amazing experience- the staff made our special occasion celebration memorable! The food was made with pride, precision, and passion. The braised ribs were so amazingly tender and don’t even get me started on the bone Marrow. To die for. Can’t wait to be back again.
Menu is limited and crazy expensive
I liked the creative taste of the pasta the diver scallops were heavenly not the run of the mill flavors
Nicole our server was awesome!! The food was on point and love the ambiance!
Everything was good. Glad we tried the restaurant. Can’t say I would rush back. Our two appetizers were fine. They weren’t amazing. I expected them to taste a little more. That was just it. It didn’t have a ton of taste. We got the special app - ahi sashimi and then the burrata appetizer which was a good portion for sharing but it lacked. My main course was the mushroom risotto. That had good flavor but there were these green grass like pieces on the dish that were not easy to chew. We shared a bread pudding that was fine. I enjoyed the wine. And the server was very helpful and even turned down the fan above our head. Maybe next time I just need to try different meals and it might be a hit.
From beginning to end a great dining experience. The decor was modern and welcoming. The staff was friendly and warm. The menu is simple and innovative. We were pleasantly surprised how fantastic their grilled naan salads were. The twist of the confit egg yolk with arugula, pesto, roasted grape tomatoes and prosciutto was scrumptious! We couldn’t stop eating! It was so fresh and flavorful.
Good food and the service was outstanding. Hosted out of town friends who are foodies - always a risk! - and had a great time. Pricey but love the local flavor and unusual combinations.
If you value quantity as equal to quality, Vein may not be for you, portions are adequate, if far from generous. This place is about unique combinations that develop very different and sometimes complex flavors. Eat slowly and savor, swallow only at the last possible moment. There is ambience, but the lack of sound baffling does a very effective job at destroying the subdued effect that was probably the goal of the interior designer. Comfortable casual seems to be cool; I had shorts and a pullover and I was not alone. My tab for two glasses of house wine, the "special," two other entrees, desert, and coffee for one came to about $125 before tip. A good value, entrees average less than $30, but again, quantity should not be a high priority.
Great food, service, if you sit at the counter you can enjoy conversation with the sous chef and that was a blast.
Service and food was excellent. Will be back.
It was honestly perfect from start to finish. Awesome staff. Awesome food. Perfect date night.
Truly enjoyed the seared ahi salad and the plantation tea is the best I have ever tasted. Very good service and prices are reasonable. This place is a real gem tucked away in this area!
Untrained service staff here. Food very mediocre. WAY too expensive for what you get...and this was my second time going here!
Food needs a little work. Flavors are okay. served a pasta that was cold and tasteless.
Portions were way too small. I am a very small eater and finished my dish entirely. I don’t think the males in my party head enough for lunch
Wonderful food, father in law said he wasn't expecting Italian and that it was the best restaurant food he'd eaten in a very long time.
Such a fun experience for us! We went as two couples and enjoyed all the food that we ordered: truffle fries, Parmesan fries, linguini, pasta, and salmon salad on bread. Service was very delightful and quick. We were the last to dine there and they didn’t rush to ask us to leave. Definitely will go back.
pasta of the day was outstanding, service was excellent. everyone was great, well trained. presentation excellent.
Fresh local ingredients combined with a creative twist on some classic menu selections.
Beautiful, unexpected flavor combinations , dish presentations are a feast for the eye.
Wait staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgable about dishes and ingredients, a plus especially on your first visit. I say first because you'll want to go back to try other menu selections!
The location is nice in the center of SALT with 1/2 indoor and 1/2 outdoor seating. The lamb and mushroom pasta were delicious. For appetizers they were out of their main bruschetta which was disappointing. The Konbu snapper had very little if any caviar (we didn't see any on our fish), and the fish had very little to no taste.
I went there twice for lunch. Lunch menu is limited compared to dinner but hopefully it will change in the future. Great service and great food.
I was a little disappointed with the menu. A little limited for lunch. Service was excellent ,workers were very friendly. Atmosphere very urban and pleasant. Choices we made for lunch was creative in presentation naan bread with greens and braised shortribs flavorful , somehow the bread was too chewy. Normally I love chewy, but to little to chewy to enjoy the meal. The salmon with naan bread somehow good but somehow both dishes were lacking something to wow your palate.I would not come back for either dishes. I love the creativeness of the dishes but the flavors need to complement each other better.
Service good. Food was ok
Sat at the bar and watched the team prepare great meals from delicious salads, tasty appetizers, mouth watering entrees and to die for desserts! A nice find in Kaka’ako at SALT. Must try the crab, apple and cucumber salad, trio of bruschetta, special pasta - penne with sausage, special entree - ribeye with Gorgonzola glaze and potatoes, and finish with the creme brûlée topped with fresh fruit!
Very different, tasty, and exciting menu with Hokkaido raw tako appetizer and Kauai rib eye steak entree with exceptional service. Bread pudding is great, light and refreshing with fruit and nut topping, again very different from the heavy/saucy traditional bread puddings. Will definitely return.
Amazing menu. Food was delicious and the ambiance was superb. The wine selection is perfectly proportionate
Came back for lunch with a colleague. Lunch is great. I loved the portabello mushroom sandwich and the omurice. Service is great as usual! I think I perfer having lunch here than dinner!
Good for a date. My fave food is the tarako wasabi pasta and osso buco.
Service was amazing and we had a great time thanks to our cheerful server! Unfortunately, the food was a little bland, small selections and way overpriced. I would go back for the service, but probably not for the food...
There was no hostess to great us, the waiter was completely uninspired, the food was so very mediocre I could not believe, simple things were wrong such as woefully undercooked pasta. In an interesting exchange I asked our waiter where the restroom was, he basically looked out toward the front of the restaurant, said “you need to go outside”, and then he pointed. So, not really knowing where I was going I headed back to where I entered into the restaurant, again, no hostess there so I turned around and went back into the heart of the restaurant and asked a different employee to help me. My entire experience at this place was utterly underwhelming, and not because I didnt drop alot of money, because I did. I will not return.
Agree with pass reviews that the quality of food is overpriced. The food was good, but nothing to rave about. Definitely not a bad experience, but probably would hold off about returning again soon.
My friends and I went to Vein, a new restaurant in SALT. We are always looking to try new restaurants. The ambiance is good - Vein is an open air restaurant which opens up to outdoor dining area. We sat at a table just before the outdoor lanai, so we got air-conditioning from the inside dining area and could people view from the outside dining area at the same time. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. Luckily the restaurant was not busy because we had our server go back and forth getting things for us several times. We ordered the truffle fries, which came with a little bit of aioli sauce. We asked for more, but was told there's an additional cost, so we asked for catsup and was told the restaurant doesn't have catsup. What restaurant doesn't have catsup for fries???? Everyone in our party opined that our food was bland, no flavor. Why don't they have salt and pepper on the table?? I ordered the short rib flat bread salad - bland, so I asked for balsamic vinegar, knowing they didn't have catsup. One person ordered the short rib burger - bland and dry, so asked for mayonnaise, knowing they didn't have catsup. Another person ordered the omurice - bland, so took most of it home. Except for the bland food, we had a nice lunch with friends.
Excellent food. Great flavors. Wait staff were very polite and attentive. Risotto was to die for!
