We had a very lovely dinner and the food was great too. The only negative was that there a set menu. We liked the regular menu but since it was Father’s Day/graduation they had a different menu. It was still very very good, but this was our last visit to this Restaurant and we were just hoping for the regular menu.
Food and service were great - what a pleasant surprise it was!!!
Fantastic place with something for every picky eater. We go here every time we are in slo!
The service timely and friendly. The food was excellent. One of the best ribeye steaks I’ve every had.
I was in town for a concert At the Fremont and had made reservations for dinner for it’s close proximity. We asked to sit at the bar since there were seats available and ended up getting some food recommendations from the couple sitting next to us. The Shishito peppers and Buffalo Cauliflower were outstanding and the Margarita was beautiful and tasty... such a treat and will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town!
Great food, especially the vegetarian and vegan options. The only downside was the big TV playing sports above the counter area. Seems to take away from the ambiance.
Fantastic food and our server was amazing at guiding us in our food choices!
It was wonderful to have a personalized experience by being served by the owner/chef. She was so informative and energetic. Learning about her experiences and meal inventions made it all taste so much better. :)
The food was subpar. They seem to think frying is the new innovation in cooking. Super greasy. My wife's salmon was inedible, as it wasn't fresh, looked like it'd been thawed, and was fishy as all get out. She sent it back, and she's never done that before - ever!
Food is good, service ok. Interesting ambiance but something is missing overall to make this restaurant “pop”
Had a great time. Third time there. Have sent several friends who also have enjoyed themselves. Loved seeing Sean O’Toole working in the kitchen. I used to be his manager at Shine Café. Will be back!
Tasty drinks and delicious food for vegans to carnivores. Any dish with plantains is yummy!
Cool space, great service, everything we ordered was excellent. Would definitely return and try more.
Fun! Great celebration for my sons birthday. Great food and atmosphere!
Focus on flavor and fresh, seasonal.
Very tasty and very expensive. Tiny portions better suited to a tapas bar than a traditional restaurant. The service was attentive but it took ages to get our drinks. They only do beer, wine and wine-based cocktails. My friend tried one of these and it was...OK but odd; nothing that she'd have again.
A shared starter, two mains and drinks came to over $80. Considering how small the portions are, I consider that very expensive. Like I mentioned, the food is very good but a poor value for what you get.
Excellent ALWAYS Excellent! VB is my go to for new guests in town, old guests in town, friends, family and ALL of my GF posse. There is just no place better to dine on absolute deliciousness! Enjoy and you are welcome!
Absolutely loved our time at Vegetable Butcher! We were out for a ladies night and chatted easily over a glass of wine. The environment is sleek yet casual and not too noisy. Service was gracious and so flexible about necessary dietary restrictions. I even messed up my order for a taco and they fixed it IMMEDIATELY! So wonderful. The shishito frito is to die for and all the other dishes we had were flavorful and dynamic. Would highly recommend for a date night or celebratory function. Thanks Vegetable Butcher!
Fabulous food! The service is too! Easy to make reservations! I recommend that you do!
Overall experience was ok. Service was excellent but food quality was average. Wine by the glass selections limited. Expensive meal for what we got. The Coho salmon was good but the vegetables were barely warm (dried kale and brussle sprouts should be piping hot). Food was delivered from kitchen too quickly and sides tasted as though they had been around a while and not right off the grille/pan. Atmosphere was ok, but very light attendance making it feel like this isn’t the happening place anymore. Definitely a drop from when they first opened and owners were there all the time. Better place for lunch and not dinner.
Kitchen pushed out our entree and salad before the appetizer. Manager took off the appetizer. Wait staff was not very attentive. Have been here several times and prior experience was great, this one, not so much.
The menu looked so appetizing and inventive but I felt the plates lacked something and the flavors did not mesh well. The ribeye entree was overpowered by the jalapeño butter and chimichurri sauce. The tacos were dry and meh. Cocktails were ok but nothing too special. I had high hopes but the food fell short.
mahi mahi with salad and chicken and black bean enchilada were both delicious
Claims to be vegetarian friendly. Choices were minimal. Not impressed with the food or service.
The house (casa) salad with added grilled chicken was fabulous! We also enjoyed the shishito peppers with fried kale appetizer. The enchilada and red bean bowl dishes were less interesting. It was sadly quiet in a Monday. Nice wine and cocktail options.
Food was overpriced and lacked flavor. They made a mistake with one order. One meal was a bowl of beans with 1 corn tortilla and part of an avocado for over $15! Very unimpressed and underwhelmed. Will not recommend or return.
Very pleasant ambiance, interesting and different menu, good food,(spicy black bean soup was delicious), and service was good. Worth checking it out.
LOVE this place. They do an excellent job with Gluten Free. Every single morsel is delicious!!
We ate at the bar and our server was a great guy. Good wine and drinks too!
The Chocolate Beet Cake was off the rails, we got a little side of ice cream with it. AMAZING!
My favorite place to take guests!
Food was great. Service was average. 1 app was brought out with meals, 2d app was brought out at the end of our meal. That app-queso-was very good though!
Third visit, food is getting better! Great service.
A group of us went to celebrate the birthday of our vegan daughter. Our server was very nice--patient, helpful, attentive. The menu was kind of disappointing. A strange mix of vegetarian mexican food and pricey meat/seafood options. The vegetarian dishes were quite spicy--I find often vegan foods are over spiced like this, as chef's seem to think we need more spice to make up for the lack of meat. The salmon was tasty. The desserts good and we appreciated that there were vegan options.
Overall, the restaurant name is deceptive--I expected more creative and a larger variety of vegetable options. I feel like we could have gone to Bliss and gotten the same quality and more selection--though of course not as nice an ambiance.
First time visiting this restaurant. Had the Shishito appetizer and the Casa Salad. Both were good portions and delicious.
The staff was attentive and friendly.
Open concept dining. We ate an early dinner and it was quiet but i can see with a full house how it could be loud.
I will return.
We were a party of 4. They only had 4 tables of customers when we walked in. We ordered appetizers and drinks, the appetizers were delicious. Then we ordered our main meals. 2 out of 4 meals came out together. A while later the 3rd meal came out and then a while after that my meal came out. They did compensate me by making a third taco and apologized for my meal taking so long. But, if my party had eaten their meals instead of waiting they would have finished their meals before mine came out. The food here is good but very expensive.
I guess the main takeaway is don't go on a Monday evening, that must be when they trot out the new waitstaff. We had a normal meal, some restaurant month items (many of which were 86'd according to our "server" ( I use the word here but service is NOT what happened) and it took 2 1/4 hours . with a nearly empty house. Couldn't remember our bar orders. never saw him after the first course--except from a distance. Just hard to recommend, even though the food itself is not bad at all--just don't expect consistent service.
Just a couple thing, but minor. Food was great chef very interested.
We attended for restaurant month and ate off of the special menu. Quality, well seasoned food expertly prepared and seasoned to really bring out the flavors of each dish. Best to make reservations or eat at the counter/bar. Been here twice, recommended for different dining that is good for everyone.
Food is great, haven't had a bad experience yet. One of my favorite places. I find a new favorite dish every time I go.
My favorite SLO restaurant. Outstanding, unique food and terrific service. Plus, the price is right.
First time to tamale Tuesday and tried both, delicious!
Been here twice now and am surprised everytime how tasty each dish is.
The cocktails were creative and tasted great. The food was outstanding. I asked our server for recommendations. Will definitely go back. Everything was fresh and flavorful.
