Vault 164 Ratings and Reviews
Good food, good value in a fun atmosphere. The service is outstanding...the wait staff, bus staff and management. You can sense the positive work environment and community involvement. They support local charity. Go have a nice meal, support them and they in turn will support others.
We came here for my mom's birthday, 45 minutes early to our 7:30 reservation, and seated right away. The hosts were very nice. It wasn't crowded or loud. I love the free brussel sprout chips when you check in on Facebook! You can ask for bread upon request, and it's delicious. I got the 7 sesame crusted ahi tuna, and I loved it! You get two decent sized slices, on top of rice noodles/mango/carrots/etc with a really yummy dressing. We were served a free baked Alaska (amazing) for my mom's birthday dessert. Our waitress was very kind and efficient. I would revisit in the future.
went here with old friend for a long overdue get together and the service was very good and the food was too. better to make a reservation because they can get busy. My friends enjoyed the cocktails and the free brussels sprout chips for checking in to facebook. funny we were her the night before LOL
This was our first time at Vault. Service started out good then became a bit lax. The restaurant was very busy that night. My order was confused ,and I was served something that I didn't order. When the gravlox (that I did order) was delivered it was not to my taste. The salmon was too thickly sliced and didn't have much flavor. The other three were happy with their dinner (ribs, sole, and a burger). Each of us said we would try Vault again.
Vault is a fun and vibrant place. The servers are very conscientious but not pretentious. I had the fish and chips. The chips were nicely fried and not too salty. The fish was nicely friend and nice big portions. The mac and cheese is awesome and I love the brussel sprouts. My friends had the filet mignon and the pork chop and both said they thoroughly enjoyed their dishes.
The decor has a dated appearance. It felt like an older Las Vegas casino restaurant. Not very warming. We went on a weeknight and arrived 15 mins before our reservation. The restaurant was all but empty. We were a party of two. They seated us right away. The hostess took us to a table in the back close to the kitchen. Once we saw the table the hostess was about to seat us at we asked if we could select a better table. They had no problem putting us in a better table. My thought was if there was a better table in an almost empty restaurant, why seat us right outside the kitchen's entry/exit door??
The hostess, our server and the bus staff were all courteous.
We had a large party with a reservation. We made it clear this was a bimonthly get together and we would be going longer than the typical 2 hour table turnover. 2 hours into our meal and 400.00 dropped we were given our bill and asked to move...essentially told to get out because they had another large party coming in. We were on track to drop another 500 on drinks alone if we had not been told to leave. I don't care who you are and what kind of restaurant you are...if told in advance you're coming and you will be staying longer...you absolutely don't tell your customers to leave. We will never come back. Management needs to change and get a clue.
Always good food and service. Had a great dinner catching up with friends. The only downside was that we paid our bill and then decided we wanted one more round. Our server had gone (it was 9.30 but there was still people eating) and when we asked a passing waitress she told us the bar closed at 9. Bit of a shame on a Thursday night but still a great meal.
Our server Karen was top notch!!! Food was delicious. I had the grilled chicken on brioche bun. My friend had shrimp tacos. The wine selection great. We both had the Simi Sauvignon Blanc. The roasted Brussels sprout chips were to die for. The warm chocolate chip cookie ala mode capped off a great afternoon lunch!
The host greeted with a smile and was very receptive. Good selection of food and wine list for casual American/Californian cuisine. The place was noisy/energetic may be due to NBA finals on TV in the bar area. The waitress was great and food came out quickly. Overall, my guest from out of town enjoyed the food and ambiance.
Made a reservation for our 30th wedding anniversary, which turned out to be a great decision. Was there once about two years ago and remembered that the food was really good. Our overall experience was great. Our server was friendly and easy-going and let us take our time as we had drinks, horderves, then our main.
My martini was great and I was very please with the wine prices. We had a bottle of nice rose brut sparkling wine which was $52. Saw the same bottle at another restaurant for $92. We had the brussel sprout chips and the cauliflower latkes as appetizers. They were superb! My main was the pork chop and I switched the potatoes to a garlic mash, my wife had the beef short ribs. Both were very tasty and perfectly prepared. Really loved all aspects of the dinner. Even better was the reasonable price of our meal. Very pleased and would definitely recommend to others.
Excellent gluten free choices and all food was really good. Physical space in an old bank was amazing. The only flaw was the lack of decent service (the buster was great though). We are going to return and hope for a different server because otherwise we really enjoyed the experience. However, if the service isnt up to par, that will be our last time.
Loved the ambiance and decor in this restaurant, and the fact that it was an old bank was very fun! We had a family dinner with 8 of us, and the table was fantastic and the food even better. Service was excellent! Great location in the heart of San Mateo. We will be back!
First time dining there and will return. High quality ingredients excellently prepared and presented. Loved the seared tuna and my daughter loved the mushroom risotto. Service was highly attentive by our server and all the staff- very professional and friendly.
Food, service was very good. All four of us enjoyed the restaurant. I mentioned to a hostess that I worked in that location 20+ years ago when it was a jewelry manufactory and retail store, she introduced us to one of the owners. He was plesant and interested in my story. We will be back.
