This place was truly amazing! Their superb service, delicious selection of entrees, vast choices of great alcoholic options and how quickly they have the food out after you order has placed this restaurant above the rest in my books. I would highly recommend the ribeye or the short rib with their bourbon chipotle sauce. Their Mussels are an appetizer you cannot pass up. I highly recommend this place and I will most definitely be a returning customer 😊
The food is magnificent! With a table of 6 we were able to enjoy lots of different appetizers, meals, and desserts. Everything was scrumptious. Tina, our waitress, was knowledge, attentive, and fun. A perfect celebration with the family for my birthday!
Out for a hot date with my beautiful wife.
Our server was Rosealie and she was super friendly and helpful. She has a great attitude and made us laugh!
We celebrated our friend's engagement with a lovely dinner at Vault 164 last Saturday. The food was delicious - try the brussel sprout chips appetizer! They are so delicious, crispy and addictive. And the Kahlua creme brulee that we split for dessert was melt in your mouth creamy and perfectly flavored with coffee.
Our little group had such a fun time over our appetizers, wine and dinner. Our waitress was super fun and helped us to celebrate with her great service and sense of humor.
Highly recommend Vault 164 for locals and out of towners alike - check it out!
Rosalie was great. She shared all her favorite items in the menu. We had good conversation with her and the timing of the service was perfect. No rush but also didn’t feel like we had to ask for service. All items we ordered were tasty and the dessert (baked Alaska) was amazing!!! Thank you for a great night!
My first time dining experience was great! Food is very good. We have the flat iron steak and the grilled seabass. As most reviewers recommended, the brussel sprout crisps are very good. Tips: if you check in at Facebook, the brussel sprout crisps are on the house with two main entrees order. The flat iron steak is tender and juicy with good flavor and the seabass is cooked to perfection. Service is good as well. Although we were sitting in a hidden corner, the waiters came by frequently to fill our water and checking on our needs. The only minor drawback is that the lighting is a bit dimmed. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Our server was exceptional and the food was very good, but the noise level was off the chart.
We were also seated next to, and very close, one of the most obnoxious couples on earth.
They were exceptionally rude to the staff, and loudly demanding. Entitled, pushy, and obnoxious.
I should give this restaurant another try, as our particular experience was jaded by our immediate neighbors.
My wife and I gave this restaurant a try because of all the good reviews. We were very disappointed. We seldom write review about our restaurant experience because if the food is good, people will flock to it even without my good review. Tonight our food were so bad that we have to warn people not to eat at this restaurant. We ordered pork belly as our appetizer. The 4 pieces of pork belly were just deep fried without being marinated first and they were tasteless. My wife ordered their Cajun Prawns. My wife and I love prawns, but not these, they were mushy and did not taste fresh. I ordered their braised short ribs. The short ribs were tough but worst of all, the Chinese string bean that came with it were also tough, so tough that they resist chewing and I had to spit it out. Needless to say, we did not finish our food. We gave them a few more bit and gave up. Money wasted. A whole evening wasted.
This place is great.. I took my 2 friend here to celebrate a birthday dinner. My 2 friends first time here and they had a good time here. The foods was great and service was awesome and very friendly and funny waiteress. This was not my first time here. I been here several time. I am glad my 2 friends enjoy it here.
I've eaten there 5 or 6 times, and have never been disappointed. Steaks & salmon are my favorite along with all their appetizers. Nice wine selection.
Very solid experience for a relatively large format restaurant. I had the sole, which was done nicely. Staff and environment all had a great vibe. Hopping on a Wednesday night.
This restaurant is in a bank that was converted. It is noisy but you can ask for a booth toward the back...away from the bar!
Cauliflower latkes were incredible. I j.g ad the sole and it was ok. Too much lemon in the caper sauce. A little over done. When i make things better at home they only get a 3.
the customer service was one of the best i’ve had in a while! May be even better than some fine dining places! definitely will be back
Our dinner on 9/2 was great, except for the salmon salad. The salmon was overcooked and very dry. Everything else was delish. We were at a wonderful booth for 7 people and we all could speak to each other. We had 3 children with us and the kids menu was perfect for two of them. The oldest child had the fish and chips from the adult menu and loved and finished it completely. The rest of us had the branzini, mushroom risotto and short ribs. The short ribs were amazing with the potatoes and some very long beans. I don't think Ive ever seen meat that juicy and tender.
Our waiter, who's name I cannot recall, was over the top amazing. I hope you can check our reservation and see who our waiter was. We started with a few orders of your amazing calamari which we were all enjoying when my 9 year old grandson swallowed a jalapeño pepper. Though he did not get loud and disruptive he was very frightened and said his lips, mouth and stomach were on fire and he was crying. Our waiter saw what was happening and came immediately to save the day with a glass of milk. It worked like magic. Not only was he wonderful for that issue, when asked he was able to described each entree perfectly. His suggestions were also appreciated. He was attentive and friendly ,but not too much so.
We had a great time because of good food and an amazing waiter.
The Happy Hour Mojito was refreshing and balanced. We were disappointed in our dinner food. We've been before and were hoping to have a nice meal to celebrate my mom's birthday. Mom's flat iron steak special was a bit tough. My Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass came luke warm and had mussels that were small yet undercooked, and the dish was rather oily. My husband said his Gaucho Flat Iron Steak was ok - the roasted corn was good though. Mixed reviews on desserts. The Baked Alaska was very good! The Key Lime Pie as a 5 - heavy and not enough lime. The Baked Apple Tart was a 5 - the crust was not light and flakey. Our waitress was very accommodating and attentive. One of our group has food allergies and she was able to get his meal prepared perfectly!
The food was very good. Generous portions. I found the drinks were a bit lacking in proper preparation techniques. (I’m a professional bartender so I have certain expectations which weren’t really met, however the taste was great.)
Really loud. Very hard to hear each other speaking. I was expecting something a bit more upscale based on the pictures on the website. It has the look and feel of a large chain restaurant. The food was not bad. The brussel sprout chips were awesome, but my spinach salad was too overdressed and the lardon in it was really hard and heavy. Everyone else's dish looked good though (salmon, ultimate burger). Service was very good.
This was a great restaurant in Downtown San Mateo that had the right vibe and ambiance for even a business dinner with work friends.
Birthday dinner with a complimentary baked alaska! Good portions and good food.
Good food, waitstaff were excellent except for the hostesses not As friendly.
Returned this time for a birthday celebration. Our friend even did the drive down from Nevada on the same day to come here for dinner. Always fresh and colorfully plated dishes. Wish I could be so creative. Two of us had the salmon dishes - not your typical prepped dish - with a variety of colorful veggies, one had the black linguini with fresh prawns. This dish was totally delicious. I had the raw tuna. Very generous portions for each order. The crispy Brussels sprouts was a very pleasant free appetizer. All you need to to do is go on Facebook and check in. The crab and artichoke appetizer was also yummy 😋. Loved the complimentary personal baked Alaska for the birthday girl from Nevada. Thank you! Service was attentive. An always to-go-to place for any reason.
Great service and nice menu with local vegetables and wine
Awesome everything! The Brussels were amazing as always!!!
Great service, awesome food!
Wonderful restaurant, but too noisy to talk, and difficult parking in downtown San Mateo.
Good food--I had Salmon Chowder and a wedge salad. The service was excellent and the venue was appropriate for a business lunch.
The Vault was and is amazing!!! Food was great and yummiclious, service was awesome and the host (girl at the front) was so nice and welcoming. My friends and I picked The Vault as it was in downtown and we have been here before and we loved the food. Celebrated my friends birthday here and they surprised them with marshmallow dessert cakes (totally good). This restaurant is great with get togethers, bdays dinners and also their cocktails are yummo :). Thank you so much The Vault :)
Need to improve the quality (particular the steaks) to get the money worth. Very loud and noisy, cannot engage in conversations.
Great food and service. We had not been here for awhile, but it certainly has improved on both the food and service. It is a great pre-movie spot, especially with Kingfish gone.
Very delicious food. Never disappointed!
I really wanted to like Vault, however in the end it was an average dinner with great service. The wine menu was impressive and the service was great, however those two combined didn't make up for the average food. My partners entree was way overcooked asking for medium rare but coming out as medium well and the prawn dish was very saucy and the potatoes cold. I would give this place another go, however go in with lower expectations. The saving grace was certainly the kind, attentive service.
The food was good but this place is dirty. There was food all over the floor and two of the three people had visibly dirty silverware. For a place where you'll spend a couple hundred bucks on a few people, you'd expect it to be clean
Great food, quick, well prepared. Would go again.
It was great. Food was good!
Really nice, good food, good service, but a little too noisy.
Service was terrible. We waited over 45 minutes for our main course. We ordered appetizers and they came within a reasonable amount of time . I think we waited at 30 minutes for our main course . The table next was seated sometime after us and received their meal and ate it before we even received our main course. We had to track down our waiter to get the check and then after we gave our credit card after receiving g the check he gave us the check again but not credit card receipt to sign
We had a group of 4 for friends get together. I ordered pork chop based on the server’s recommendation. It was totally over cooked and I couldn’t even cut the meat with a knife. I barley had two small slices and left whole pork chop. I was so disappointed and didn’t even want to take the stake home. It was just awful. No more Vault 164...
Restaurant is big but has a slightly weird layout.
Menu is very appealing but execution lacks.
Service was ok... a little pushy at times.
Overall experience was just ok. Not over the top exceptional.
They might have had an off night. We have eaten there before, but this
time my wife's mushroom risotto was quite bitter and overloaded w/mushrooms
and not enough risotto. My steak was good, but we had to wait for the mac
& cheese side--I was almost done when it got to our table.
