What Insiders Are Saying
An Upper East Side French restaurant from Michael White with very good food. It's fancy, without being too formal.
The dining room was woefully understaffed. Our waiter was surprisingly courteous considering he was covering the entire room causing our party extremely slow service. More annoying , when we mentioned this to management they had an inane reply about having 5 large reservations.
However, food was great and the setting extraordinarily pleasant.
One of the "beautiful rooms" to dine in New York City. The food is rich, and so too are the clientele. If you are a snob (food or otherwise), this place is for you. But if you are not, yet able to afford it, Vaucluse is also for you. The service was sincere and did not seem to judge. The extensive wine list had value, sitting along astronomically priced bottles. The food was elegant and handsomely plated. And while the table linens were starched and crisp, the ambiance was soft and comfortable.
Sometimes dining in elegance can be fun. If you know you're going to pay for the luxury, why not?
Always the best
Amazing place at Park Avenue
very tasty and expensive food
A bit stuffier than they purport to be. This time of year you will feel under dressed without a jacket. The food was excellently executed and the service is excellent. Price is consistent with location but very expensive for traditional french haute cuisine.
A good experience was ruined by inattentive service. Wait staff constantly kicked my chair when passing. Courses were served from the right for the server's convenience. It could have been a better experience.
Overpriced place, waitress was not professional and communicative. Disappointing experience.
Like many New York restaurants, seating at Vaucluse is intimate--no so much with your dinner companion, but with the diners at the adjacent tables. You hear almost as much of their conversations as you do of your own. Of course, hearing a conversation is something of a stretch since the walls, ceiling and floors are all hard surfaces. The main course and dessert were excellent, but the undressed salad was left uneaten. Service was competent but not great.
Because We eat at this restaurant so often with my husband and friend I hardly ever write a review. But I must say that one of the things that I love about this place is when they pour the wine or champagne they bring the bottle to the table. So you know exactly what you’re getting. I don’t even order wine in any restaurant that does not bring the bottle to the table because I do not know what on earth I am getting. This place is the best. The food is great the wine is great the service is great and it is just the most beautiful wonderful experience. And that is why we eat here at least once A week when we are in New York city.
Anniversary of friends
Overall including ambiance and service and so on is very good but food taste is average.
this restaurant is good for the people who like American mood but not good for foodies.
Delicious food and a beautiful quiet dining with excellent service. Tables not on top of eachother
We were thrilled to find a restaurant that is both hip and quietly refined...... Modern and elegant .
Not inexpensive, but reasonable by NYC standards. Everything is very nicely done even if not every dish is superb (some are). Wine list is good too and varied with some interesting uncommon choices. Dependably much more than pleasant.
I love my wife
Great in every way. I had the duck entree, which was the best I've had. Drinks on the expensive side even for such an upscale place, but otherwise, prices are what you'd expect. I'll be back for special occasions.
The dining experience was great. The appetizers steak tartare, jumbo lump cake, escargots with roasted bone marrow were delicious! Especially the escargots! Ordered the squid ink pasta with seafood was delicious as well, Waitress Laura accommodated us by prepared the pasta into 2 individual plates instead of 1 for sharing. We had New Zealand lamb chops as entree, it was cooked to perfection. However, it was disappointment on the maine lobster, it was a little under seasoned. As desserts, Mousse Sablée aux Raisins was the best dessert! Must try!
Semifreddo au Chocolat was a little too sweet for us. The ambiance, presentation, service, taste, price are in the high-end category. The price range on opentable is a little deceiving for the restaurant, it should be $$ instead of $$. Overall rating, I would give a 4.8. Will return for another dining experience.
Superb. Great prixe fixe lunch during week (weekends look like worse selection at higher price though not tried for this reason). Great linens, crystal, silver and ambience. Service ok.
We had an enjoyable evening of very good good, an entree was unusual and just delicious. The service was polished and every one was welcoming and friendly without being intrusive in the slightest. We enjoyed dining there a couple years ago and this time was even better.
No surprise, consistently tasty , eye appealing dishes. Clement Jafet and his team make you feel at home.
I was pleasantly surprised about the amazing food and the excellent service at Vaucluse. The lunch prix-fix is a great value. I will definitely be back
Love the ambience and the food; the tables Are far apart and it’s peaceful
We thoroughly enjoy Vaucluse year round . The food and service is outstanding . Definitely detail and quality oriented. Love the ambience, neighborhood gem ! Great for well behaved kids with parents .
Glad to come back, one of my favorite places for excellent food and quite conversation
My experience was outstanding! By far one of the best restaurants in NYC.
Excellent. Delicious food and great attentive service. We enjoyed very much and will dine there more regularly.
We are big Michael White fans having eaten at Ai Fiori, Marea, Ristorante Morini and Vauclause many times. This was perhaps our 6th visit to Vauclause and frankly this time the food was disappointing-------particularly so because we are so aware of what the kitchen is really capable of turning out. Appetizers were merely good, risotto was fair, pasta Outstanding, and entrees awful. Rohan duck breast was gamey and poorly prepared: branzino was fishy and not worth eating.
Nice menu well executed. We were all pleased with our meals and the accompanying wines.
Wonderful night. Lamb chops were a little chewy. Service was excellent
Thanks for making my friend's birthday extra nice!
What a wonderful French restaurant, truly a gem with amazing service...
Lovely setting with poor execution of services. Could not locate Captain and staff was not very professional.
The food was acceptable but not to the standard of a high end restaurant.
Pricing was quite high for a mediocre experience.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The food was fantastic, but the service was even better. Luisa, our server, made excellent suggestions and was both knowledgeable and attentive. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helped make our first anniversary a memorable one.
Nice place and good food although the risotto was sweet corn with some rice instead of rice with some sweet corn. The fletan was very dry. However the ravioli with rabbit were outstanding and the branzino was very good too. The foie was incredible as well.
One of the fine East Side restaurants. Not inexpensive but that is what fine dining costs.
Always a superb and elegant place to dine, with excellent cuisine and a superb wine list, and caring and professional service.
