We had a reservation but no table was available when we got there. They did set up a table for us but the service thereafter was almost non-existent. Perhaps when we were seated at the new table, we did not fall into anyone's "territory". Entertainment was great.
Due to COVID, the hours changed and they moved the piano bar outside. All tables were full and they only had two servers working the floor/tent. The manager should have stepped in to assist with drink orders or something. We were there for my birthday. We got up and left. We couldn’t even get the server’s attention to get our check so we left money on the table. Probably way overpaid for the one drink we had. Didn’t get a chance to order food. Others were getting frustrated with the lack of staff.
Obviously struggling due to Covid 19. Relocated to tent in parking lot which is understandable and forced Doug to utilize electronic piano. Excellent entertainment anyway. 3 of 4 plates were mediocre, one being very good. Service was absolutely most disorganized and slowest I have experienced. I would return when things, hopefully, return to more normal. Staffing is clearly a major issue.
Always enjoy Doug Montgomery. The food is good and drinks are nice, but we go to Vanessie's to see Doug!

The food and service were great! We loved the entertainment - Doug Montgomery!!!! His music was so fun and the audience participation made it ever better! We had so much fun the first time on Saturday night that we had to go back for Sunday night!!!!!
You need to go when Doug Montgomery is playing. He is the best!! He plays Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A fun place to go where friends meet friends.
We walked in and the staff ignored us. Once we were seated (right in front of the piano speakers) our water glasses were delivered by a child (11-12 years old). Both glasses had lipstick stains on them. We were moved to a different table away from the speakers and delivered two more water glasses which still had lipstick stains. The child was continually working the entire room, busing tables and delivering water. Out of 4 visible staff members (5 if you include the minor) only 2 of them wore gloves. We ordered a crab cake appetizer which came out with two cakes, both of which were cooked differently and tasted horrible. The only bright spot was the live entertainment.
Never got service. Finally left.
We came to hear Doug Montgomery and he never disappoints.
I would like to reserve table #5 for Sunday the 23rd at 6:00 for four people.
Have been going to Vanessie for years to listen to Doug. Sometimes we are not fond of the food but tonight it was excellent. A great evening under a tent, listening to Doug, attentive wait staff even while it was pouring rain. Will go again.
We hadn’t been to Vanessie’s in quite a few years and were pleasantly surprised. Service attentive and the new menu appealing. From the lamb chops to sole to beef ribs with pasta— everyone enjoyed their entree. Beet salads were great! We had the pot de creme and even though I wouldn’t classify it as a classic it was excellent.
When we got there, no table was available and they hurriedly set up a rickety table and the used dirty glasses slid off. They crowded the table in so much that no one could move their chairs out. We asked for another table and they gave us one after a long wait and never set it. The waiter was friendly and the food was excellent but the service was very poor. The orders were incorrect and I could go on...
We loved it! Doug Montgomery is worth the trip to Santa Fe ! If you do not do anything else - go to see him !
It was my tenth anniversary and my wife and I
Love the onion loaf! So good. Really like the sing alongs - miss Bob.
Great place! Packed with happy patrons.
Vanessie's is fantastic! Yes, the food is good, the service is equally good... but Doug Montgomery on the piano is the reason to go to Vanessie's.
Piano bar hands down the best and most fun in Santa Fe. It’s a no miss. Both artists were great. Food could be better pizza was good calamari. Acceptable. Caeluflower was one big head. Grilled tasted a bit chlorine like it was rinsed in tap water But totally worth going for drinks. So much fun.
My husband and I wanted a special evening for our last night in Santa Fe. Vanessie has been here for many years and the last time I went was over 15 years ago. It was very much the same as I remembered it. A beautiful, relaxed, atmosphere and always very talented performers on the piano. Al Rogers was playing for most of our stay and he was wonderful. I had the Sunset cocktail which was a great twist on my favorite Campari and soda. We spent over 2 hours there, from cocktails to dessert and coffee-it was all excellent. But the absolute best is the music, talented artists in a comfortable setting, some couples got up to dance occasionally, and there was a lot of interaction with the audience. A lovely way to spend an evening. We will be going back regularly when we are in town.
WOW evening. 3 Juliard trained musicians. Doug always outstanding. The violinist was incredible and the opera singer superb. It was the trifecta of a musical experience. Out of this world amazing.
Food and menu has improved significantly and entertainment is always great. We were impressed with Andrew as the new manager but now sadly understand that he has left.
The food was good. Service was excellent. We really enjoyed Doug Montgomery on the piano. He was a good pianist, entertaining and fun. Was a nice evening.
I really like the new menu. More and better choices. The service is getting better and better.
This is probably the best piano bar anywhere! My husband and I are always so moved by the genuine love there.
It's a special place.
Vanessie's continues to get better and better with the new manager and the new menu. Great food, great service and one cannot beat the great entertainment. Try it!
Our server, “Almost Walter White” made another evening one to remember.. The entertainment was fantastic, as was the food and wine. Vanessie’s...is a must.
The food was superb! The ambiance lends itself to a wonderful dining experience.
We always enjoy the piano music and his ability to bring the crowd into the experience
The food has significantly improved with the new menu items. The new staff members are much more pleasant to the patrons. Andrew, the new manager, seems to be doing quite well and has great ideas for even more improvements. And one cannot beat the world class entertainment with Doug Montgomery, Elizabeth Young, Bob Fennie, Al Rogers, et al. Try it, you will like it.
Great improvement the past few weeks with new menu and with new manager, Andrew. Try it, you will like it, and one cannot beat the world class entertainment.
There has been significant improvement in the past two weeks with the food quality and with the return of some prior more customer friendly staff members. The new menu is a vast improvement. Those at our table had a difficult time deciding what to choose from so many new choices. Highly recommend the restaurant and the world class entertainment of Doug Montgomery, Al Rogers and Bob Fenie. Try it. You will like it.
The food is fabulous! The best Caesar salad I have had in years. The sole was cooked perfectly and they let me exchange seasonal vegetables to sautéed spinach-yummmm.
My husband had the salmon and he committed on almost every bite how he liked it.
Our server was wonderful, made sure we were well taken care of even when we went to the piano bar in the next room.
We have been here before and will be on our must go list every time we are in Santa Fe.
We stayed at Vanessie Hotel; great value. The Vanessie bar and restaurant is not only handy to guests, but the place provides a really fun experience. The first night we were there, the bartender Curtis made phenomenal cocktails (tiny shards of ice floating on top of my martini). The food was ample and tasty. The entertainment was engaging as the piano man, Doug Montgomery, knew how to work the large crowd. There were entertainers in the audience, and one of the wait staff, who offered top notch singing. All in all that evening was really a great time. Two nights later, Curtis was not there and the cocktails suffered, awful really. The result of an inexperienced bartender. But the meal and entertainment were top notch. If great cocktails are important to you, make sure Curtis is there and enjoy.
We probably brought the noise. Adulthood it's a piano bar, everybody listens politely and at least for the night we were there, very few people sang along unless asked. The wait staff from Jesse to David were absolutely amazing. We ran late because of traffic on I-25 and when I called in explaining out
Great Evening. Significant improvement now being made on menu options, the food quality, new staff and service. Doug Montgomery is a great entertainer and reason enough to dine there. Try it. You will like it.
Since we moved to Santa Fe four years ago, Vanessie's has been one of our favorite restaurants for cocktails, appetizers, dinner and entertainment. We’ve always had menu favorites and found the cocktails to be superb. It has been on our must do itinerary for anyone visiting us from out of town. This time we were really looking forward to having some of our favorite cocktails, appetizers, and meals on this final evening together with friends from out of town who were celebrating their birthday. On the positive side, we were greeted promptly, had a reserved table in the piano lounge, received excellent service, and found the entertainment by Doug Montgomery to be excellent and lots of fun as always. However, we were disappointed to find the menu, food quality and cocktails subpar compared to previously. When we asked about favorite items from previous visits, we learned that Vanessie has changed management, menu and cocktails. The menu is now Italian, but not competitive with the quality of other Italian restaurant dining options in Santa Fe. The cocktails were mediocre and I couldn’t even drink my Old Fashioned, which was presented with a lemon wedge rather than the fruit that distinguishes this usually flavorful drink. My husband really enjoyed the calamari. He previously loved the Manhattan here, but this time said it was only “ok” but not nearly as good as before. We will go to Vanessie in the future to hear Doug Montgomery, but not for dinner, and will order wine instead of cocktails.
I reserved a quiet table with which we were nicely accommodated, but I also mentioned it was a birthday dinner, which was not acknowledged in any way. The server was busy and rushed, and we felt like we were in a local diner where we were supposed to hurry. We asked about bread with our wine while waiting on the meal, but they don't serve any. My husband's meal was very good, and mine was okay. It seems the dining room plays second fiddle to the piano bar. The piano bar is delightful and we stayed to enjoy it a bit after dinner, but we did want the quiet dinner first. In any case I don't know that we will return. For the price we expected more.
Vannessie's management is trying to move to a upscale Italian restaurant from being a long time piano bar. Rather Rocky start thus far. Seem to have terminated most of the customer friendly staff in favor of a more rigid, less friendly format. Most customers go there because of Doug Montgomery, an outstanding entertainer, or for Bob Finnie, and just tolerate the food. It will be interesting to see if they will ever be able to compete with the many really fine restaurants in Santa Fe, so guess we will have to wait and see on that unlikely possibility. The several times we have been there since the change, only one meal has been up to our standards. Maybe they need to find a chef who can improve the food quality, and soon.
My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic trip and spent two evenings in the bar/restaurant. Food was great and Richard the bartender gave us great recommendations on other places to check out during our meetings in Santa Fe. The food, atmosphere and piano player were fantastic. Great place with great food, drinks and service.
We had a wonderful experience at Vanessie! We ate in the bar so that we could enjoy the piano player. It was the same menu as the dining room and everything was phenomenal!! The piano player was truly the icing on the cake too. He was entertaining and mesmerizing! What a fun evening out!!! You can't miss this place if your in Anta Fe! Be sure and go when the pianist is there, but I believe it's most nights out of the week. We were there on a Thursday evening. You MUST go!!
