Van Rensselaer's RESTAURANT & RAW BAR
Van Rensselaer's has been family owned and operated since 1968. We are open from Mid-April until late October
Peter and Diane Hall proudly continue to serve the freshest locally caught seafood and superbly prepared meats. We welcome you to our restaurant, we appreciate any suggestions that you may have and above all we hope that you enjoy your dining experience with us.
We are proud to say we are Level 1 Green certified! Check out our newly renovated bar for dinner or just a drink.
One of our favorite restaurants on the Cape! Never had a bad meal. The salad bar is always a hit, and I love the two prices for many of the meals.
Everythibg was good.. salad bar a little expensive for its selection
Waiter was a little slow
Deceived by the waitress who charged us with regukar ice creams for our 2 kids for 11,50$ instead of 7 although they ate from the kid's menu.
We asked, she didn't apologize or make a commercial gesture.
Lokks like when you're not American it doesn't matter...
That's a bummer because the place and food is great!
This is one of our favorite flower cape restaurants. Best salad bar!
A little too pricey for the size portions.
Good scallops over mashed potatoes and asparagus, salad bar was average chowder was a plus. Our server was brisk, did not introduce herself and seemed almost annoyed she had to wait on us.
Although the restaurant was about 30% full (most tables were available) - hostess ( a very irritable middle aged man) offered us the worst table in the house (next to entry door - all table options were open!) - ambience is drab, very dated décor - value is way unreasonable, as for example, exactly four very small scallops cost $26 - sides extra - a bad experience all around, will never return and will not recommend -
Our meal and drinks were delicious. The presentation was perfect. This is one of our favorite places to eat.
Dinner was delicious. Everything was wonderful. Greeting, server, food. Loved the salad bar. They don't skimp there. A lot to choose from.
Was so great we went the next day for breakfast and was delicious.
Lovely, attentive service. Our meal was very good. The restaurant lacks modern ambiance, and has the feel of an old-school 1980s place, complete with salad bar. But the food was good so it didn’t really matter. The raw oysters were outstanding!
This family owned restaurant is great for special occasions or larger parties. One of the few restaurants in the area where you can make a reservation. They have a varied menu of seafood, pasta and more with an optional salad bar. Many of the entrees come in 2 sizes which is a plus. The raw bar selections are always great!
We've been visiting the Cape regularly for decades and Van Rensselaer's has been among our "go-to" places for many of those years. Peter and Diane are wonderful, attentive hosts that will go to great lengths to make your visit memorable - on a couple of occasions they even held the kitchen open when we were arriving late and called from the road. Food is consistently fresh, well prepared and delicious, especially their signature seafood dishes. Many entrees are available in full or smaller size portions, so you can order to match your appetite, and seafood "catch of the day" dishes are all available prepared in several different ways. The enclosed, outdoor deck is fun, especially on warm summer evenings.
salad bar was wonderful and fresh with lots of variety. Our meals came in timely mannor and pipping hot. Food was excellant
We ALWAYS eat at Van Rensselaer's when we are on vacation in North Truro and we highly recommend it to people we know who go to Cape Cod. We were very happy to get a reservation on Labor Day weekend for the time we wanted. 3 out of the 4 meals we ordered were absolutely delicious!!! I think due to the busy weekend my lobster was over cooked but no worries because it won't stop up from going back. Great staff, great food and great atmosphere for all!!
It’s our new go-to! Love it! Great breakfast and dinner!!
Don't waste your time here. Go to a roadside stand instead.
The food was average and overpriced for the quality
We enjoyed our dinners with our two very small grandchildren and their parents. Great family place with very good food.
We enjoyed our experience. We were greeted with a smile at the door, and were seated promptly. Tables had cloths and lit candles. Having had seafood for the last several days, we were happy to see meat on the menu. My husband's filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare. It was tender and flavorful and served with a side of mashed. I ordered the prime rib au jus. They were sold out of the end cut, so ordered what was available. It was served the way i ordered it...medium well and it was still tender and flavorful. Served with side of horseradish sauce and mashed potatoes. It was very good. Our waiter was polite and friendly. The owner came around to make sure our meat was cooked to our liking. If we go back to Wellfleet, will certainly check out their seafood as well. Highly recommend.
Wonderful hosts. Wait staff are so polite and fabulous. Food is great !!! Go!!! You’ll become a returning guest very soon!!!!
We enjoyed our dinner. The food was delicious and the service was great. Been going here for years and will definitely come back
Food was great. Cole was our server. He was the best waiter we have had anywhere in a long time! We will ask for him next time we go
Excellent food, raw bar, salad bar. Choices include grilled fish, chicken, and meat. Kid friendly!
Menu has a nice variety and offers smaller portions for numerous entrees. Food is delicious and the salad bar is wonderful with many options. Consistently a solid dining experience.
Food was well prepared, flavorful and hot. The server, COLE, was excellent at his job and very personable
We have been going to this restaurant for over fifteen years. We have always been pleased. Every thing about our visit has been outstanding !
We had a wonderful dinner there. The place was packed on a Friday evening. There were families and couples there on a date. Something for all. My wife had the cod, and I had scallops. Both were well prepared. Service was good. Even though the restaurant was full there was not a tremendous amount of noise. The only negative were the rolls. Not very tasty or fresh. Would have been over the top otherwise. Portions were plentiful - we cleaned our plates but did not have room for dessert. The bread pudding looked great though.
I was there when the computers went down. The owners were great, trying t help everyone get their checks taken care of, but my waiter was super flustered. I was a party of one and he basically ignored me. I had to ask for his attention and he was friendly enough but sort of forgot about me. Guess he tip on a party of one isn’t worth it.
The food was very good. Have been there before for great breakfasts, but this was my first dinner there. Had the panic crusted cod which was very good, and the wilted spinach which was excellent!
Very pleasant and Like the choice of small plates! The food was delicious and the service was good and will definitely go back.
Always a wonderful dining experience here. From the fillet to the lobster........perfect!
What a fantastic restaurant! We sat on the screened porch and it was lovely. The salad bar was fantastic! So many delicious, fresh choices - we loved it. Our entrees and the desserts were just wonderful. The lobster cakes are terrific!
Great place. We got in right away on a Saturday night, and although it was a longer than expected wait for food, it was fantastic. Our server Matt went above and beyond, and provided fantastic service..
I have been coming to the Cape for over 15 years with my family. From the Bourne Bridge to the tip of Provincetown, I've been to countless restaurants for all types of meals.
This mean was amongst the finest I have ever had on the Cape!
DO NOT HESITATE!
1982 called and wants its menu back. I’ve seen more interesting salad bars in grocery stores. They’ve tacked a couple of current items (zoodles, avocado toast, kale) on to a menu full of dishes that I suspect they’ve been making the same way for years and years. The taste was fine, not bad but nothing special. And on a not excessively warm evening, it was so hot in the restaurant! We won’t be back.
Food was delicious. Lobster flatbread was loaded with lobster. Clam chowder was light and delicious. Service great!
Excellent menu with many options for food sensitivities and healthy selections in Lower cape.
Excellent food! Nice vegan option; very fresh food. My vegan dish was slightly too oily but taste was superb. Excellent desserts- very fresh whole fruit sorbet; excellent avocado toast. Delicious American classics too! My daughter celebrated her birthday here and loved it. Staff made it really a warm experience which made her special day fantastic. Thank you!
This place has been open for years and is always busy so they’re doing something right. Old timey family restaurant that reminded me of places you used to go with grandma and grandpa for Sunday dinner. Bread basket. Salad bar. Large vinyl menu with lots of choices. Overall, food was good. Service was very good. Setting on Rt.6 meant our view was the parking lot. If you are looking for a place with something for everyone this might be it. However, there are lots of other places down in Wellfleet that had more charm, though a more limited menu.
We had a wonderful family breakfast. The owners greeted us as we arrived and the wait staff was very professional and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious. Best blueberry pancakes I have ever had, great coffee too. The price was the same for us as the buffet down the road;however, our menu choices were larger than the buffet. Highly recommend!
This was our first time -- we had heard good things from folks we know. We loved our waitress Kara, who is a teacher in her fall, winter, spring life. We enjoyed our food -- the salad bar looked ordinary but every item was fresh and delicious. Our Early Bird menu choices -- chicken and Faroe salmon-- were very good. La Crema chardonnay was on the wine list -- a wonderful choice. Desserts were delicious--homemade sorbet and 'tasting' portion of bread pudding, again delicious, and by no means small. Warm welcome at reception, ample parking, air conditioning not too cold. A family run business I am happy to support.
