The food was amazing. And it’s such a a cool space!
The service was exceptionally slow. We watched our waiter be more attentive to the tables around us. He was very nice but not attentive. The food was mediocre but not terrible
Great place and great food.
Warm and welcoming staff! Great ambiance with old school décor. We look forward to going back.
My wife had a bloody Mary. She likes spicy but found the one at Valerie too spicy for her taste - just a heads up.
Beautiful atmosphere. We were there for brunch as the restaurant opened.
Rolls were tasty but impossible to butter because butter was cold. Omelette was a little underdone. Hash didn’t work as well with the crispy hash browns.
Service people were very attentive.
Single restrooms, as you might expect in this old building. Restroom was beautifully updated and decorated. I love the fact that there were two ladies rooms!
I would be interested in trying lunch or dinner menu.
Overall the food was AMAZING! We asked for the some items a few times, and we were the first people to be sat. Overall the food was fantastic, and the ambiance was great, but the service could have been a little better about checking in with us and then bringing the extra items (Diet Coke, Ketchup, creamer) those types of things....
Excellent cocktails !
We loved our experience at Valerie! The staff was very attentive and the food was excellent. We started with the tempura greens which were tasty. My girlfriend had the burger which she loved. I had the steak frittes which was cooked to perfect with a couple sauces for my steak and dipping sauces for my truffle fries. We loved the fries. The interior was beautiful and the great bar to to look at. I would come back again when I'm in New York.
Well after a very rocky start - a poorly located table where one of us has a view of the kitchen door and the other almost clocked by waitstaff whizzing by, Valerie ended up shining. Skip the tempura green beans - unremarkable - and go straight to the best reinvented Cesar ever - lemony, creaming and savory. I’d go back just to eat it again. The half chicken was sublime - with mushrooms and savory gnocchi, perfect. And the passion fruit cheesecake - unique, beautifully presented, delicious. The waiter was excellent, but the service can’t decide if it’s a bistro or a restaurant. The crowd is younger, professional, and probably should eat more and drink less. The traditional library room is what you’d expect from up dining in New York, warm and thoughtful, except for the kitchen door ….
Lack of experience and misleading menu created a subpar dinner experience. They couldn’t wait to turn the table yet couldn’t get an order correct.
Service could have been better. It seems we were rushed even though the place was pretty empty
Great place for a late night stop for great food and cocktails after a show. Love all the gin choices and the upstairs is nice and intimate while not losing any of the ambiance, energy, and vibe. Our server was awesome as were the food and drinks.
The Oysters where superb, The 36 hour braised short ribs where execelent, The sweet peas lobster raviolis where delicious and the waiter super kind
Beautiful restaurant and pretty ambiance. Welcoming staff and the food was delicious. Enjoyed it a lot!
Loved the ambience, service, food and of course, the cocktail.
The entire staff was very friendly and efficient. Food was wonderful.
As visitors to NYC it was awesome to find a local place for lunch in Midtown that was not a chain, or tourist destination nor an over priced restaurant. We were amazed at the size of the portions! Pro tip: order less! Everything was delicious, service was excellent- friendly, fast, attentive but unobtrusive. The room is lovely.
We dined here on a Sunday night and had a great time. The menu has some unique and delicious choices. The bar is amazing but my cocktail was expensive while very small. Our server, Pete, was so nice and attentive without being annoying. He let us take our time even though this restaurant has a policy saying they turn over tables every hour and a half. Most likely, we were able to lounge longer and it was quieter than other reviewers stated because it was a light Sunday night. Out of 4 of us, 3 were very pleased with our entrees. But one of us had the NY Strip and was disappointed. It was a flavorful and nice portion, however, it was a bit tough and grisly. The French Quarter Sundae was decadent and delicious! The restaurant is gorgeous and full of ambiance. The only thing I would change is the lighting in the bathrooms. It is so dark you cannot check yourself in the mirror. Who wants to laugh with friends with spinach in their teeth? :) All of that said, I would definitely return to Valerie!
Valerie was great for a pre-show meal. The prices were reasonable for the area, the food was great and the service was very good. I would definitely go back & recommend to friends with Broadway tickets.
OOS - we specifically choose Valerie for the Hen of the Woods sandwich, as a vegan choice, along with other hi-end pub grub. We were bummed to find out part of it was unavailable, and when it arrived it was overcooked and bland. Other items were okay (the strip and the salmon), but highlight dish was the roasted fig flatbread.
Server was not rude, just bland and rather inattentive. Overall it seemed like a great bar for most, but given our limited time it was disappointing.
Great food, wonderful cocktails and service, lively place
One of the most creative craft cocktails served in NYC. Although Valerie specializes in gin, you can request a shake and serve of your favorite spirit and let the bartender mix his own creation for you. My request combined vodka, lavender, mint and St Germain in a not too sweet refreshing cocktail. you could cut with your fork The short ribs of beef served was so tender you could cut it with your fork. Ask for the back room if you want a quieter area but the vibe is energetic. I will definitely revisit.
We had a great post-show dinner, the bar area was very noisy but we were sat in a back section that was a little quieter. Really great service, great food - would definitely go back.
Wonderful ambiance. Great menu choices with additional specials. The service was great as was the food.
Great service and great food/cocktails.
great atmosphere, food was good and the music was great.
What a great find . A perfect place for dinner before a show at Radio City Music Hall. The food was all very good and bonus was the happy hour drink and oyster specials. No choice on the kind of oysters, all one type but they were really excellent. Service was prompt, pleasant and efficient. A bit noisy but that’s because it’s popular. Prices are also extremely reasonable for this neighborhood.
Service was slow and server dock
We went on a Thursday at 6:40pm so needless to say the happy hour crowd was still going strong. If you're looking for a quiet romantic place to eat, maybe try any day other than Thurs-Sat and avoid 5:30-8:00pm. Delicious food, fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. The service left something to be desired BUT they were slammed so I don't fault them for that.
I ordered the fried chicken, which was half-cooked.
This place is such a great spot in midtown to enjoy good food, drinks and great service. Loved that our waitress, her attention to detail was impressive. The decor is beautiful. The Martinis were perfect.
Easy Sunday evening dinner with partner. Able to accommodate food sensitivities easily and allow us to select a nice appetizer and main course. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was very good and plated well. Clean and spacious seating. We only missed having dessert as we were full.
The food and drinks were great. I highly recommend this place for everyday dining and special occasions. They played R&B music during dinner and it was a great ambiance.
Took my parents here for a cute casual dinner. The ambiance was adorable, very gastby-esque. Food was great and the waitstaff was very attentive and kind.
Very good food and service. Kinda noisy.
Went there for my Mom’s birthday lunch. It was great!
Great overall experience! I would eat there again.
This was our first time to dine at Valerie. The service is better than good. It’s excellent. The atmosphere is cozy but lively. Just a great all around choice.
Valerie is like stepping into the roaring 20's with it's cool ambiance. Christina was a great waitress and staff very nice. Food and drinks were great and loved the $1 oysters for happy hour. We'll be back on our next trip to NYC.
