Valentino - LA Ratings and Reviews
It is refreshing to see some of the old timers still enthusiastic about giving their customers what they were used to have many moons ago and embracing the new trends by being innovative enough. Piero is an inspiration.... It is also a pleasure to be served by true professionals.
Very good food, including some unusual combinations (grilled octopus on a couscous with squid ink). However the service was very slow but the dinner was New Years eve and the restaurant was full and with their regular menu, so it may be justified.
I'll be back in a more normal day and see if the service is better
Valentino is like a 60's fine dining restaurant preserved in amber and I don't particularly mean that in a positive sense. Having said that I appreciated the quiet in a room that conversations were possible. The service was good, although a bit impersonal. The meal was also good with the exception of my wife's veal chop which had to be sent back to the kitchen to be cooked to the requested doneness. Overall, our experience was good but definitely not great.
Nice place and great history. They really need to update the recipes and preparation. The pastas were C+ with an A+ price. Chitarra was plain ‘ol spaghetti.
Happy to have old school Italian, but it should have soul - this place has soul because of its history not its food. Bummed.
Wow, for all the chatter about this venue, and its reputation, we couldn't have been more disappointed. The food was good. That's it - only good. Very old-fashioned - and I mean old. There are so many great, new eateries in the City, we won't need to go back here.
I don't think there is another restaurant that is so accommodating and welcoming than Valentino. Piero Selvaggio welcomes you when you walk in whether it is your first time or 100th time. Most of the staff have been there for years and is accommodating with personal requests. It is a very special restaurant with delicious food and exquisite wine.
First time my husband was extremely disappointed with his filet mignon. Was very tough, and he could not eat it. Told waiter, who offered to replace it, but my husband did not choose to do. It would have ruined our lunch, waiting for a replacement. It was my husband’s birthday, and he received a complimentary dessert, and I received one as well.
Food, as always, was very good but not great. Wine list of course superb but in general over-prices at the low end. Service, as always, is lacking. Not there when you want them and hard to flag down. Great reception though. The service staff needs to be sent to a high end French restaurant to see what service is about.
We had a Groupon and enjoyed the food and the very attentive service. My husband adored the squid appetizer and our waiter went above and beyond to accommodate his lactose free needs. I really liked the pork entree but my husband didn't find it as satisfying.
I was at Valentino's for a date last weekend and was reminded that it remains one of the top restaurants in LA if not the country. I've been there off and on for decades. Everything works-from being greeted by the owner when entering the restaurant (OK it was quiet at that moment) to the ambiance, service, food and everything else. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.
This is our favorite restaurant in Los Angeles and we’ve been to almost every fine dining restaurant in the city. When our vet critical foodie friend came to visit from New York City we took him to Valentino. It’s the restaurant you take people like our friend who could immediately tell that the negroni cocktail was made with a specific sweet vermouth (I can’t remember Its name) that restaurants rarely ever use, but the negroni made at Valentino uses only that one. I never heard of that drink before but It’s now my new favorite drink (straight up with a cherry). The people at Valentino work harder than you would expect to fulfill your every culinary desire whether it’s on the menu or not, but I strongly suggest you order what’s on the menu because every single thing is superb and even our very critical friend from New York said he wants to bring his wife when he comes back to LA in a few months.
We did miss a chance to dine at Valentino on our most recent trip to LA. We were greeted by the owner upon arrival; had our usual glass of prosecco for the cocktail; had the green salad and the minestrone for the starter; split the cavatelli special pasta; had veal ossobucco and veal scallopine for entrees; ended with cannoli and piccolo pasticceria for dessert. From the ever fabulous wine list, we had a 2010 Nozzole Chianti Classico. We were glad to see the restaurant full of patrons and we enjoyed every minute of it. Relative to other LA restaurants, the price is extremely reasonable.
Piero Selvaggio and his team continue to exemplify the best in service, cuisine and fundamental kindness and caring at every level. Yes the pasta was perfect. Every course delighted. But foundational to this restaurant overall and our meal tonight was the personal focus and joy in hospitality that permeates Valentino and the men and women who make Piero’s vision real. I am grateful for this institution and look forward to my next visit.
Beginning with a warm welcome and able to have reserved table in a timely matter . Since then things just went downward . You would expect more attentive service even the very basic service were not be serviced as simple as refill the empty glass of water . Foods just average .Very disappointed.
Service was very slow and took a very long time for the food to come out. The food was good but for the price, should be a lot better. They do however have a great wine list! I was expecting a better dining experience given its long standing reputation and higher price points
Amazing, delicious, creative, authentic, superb , great atmosphere, etc
