Pricy but well worth it. Excellent Italian food, beautifully presented. Excellent service. Wonderful experience!
I have loved Valentino’s for 30 years. I miss the more adventurous menu of long ago. Still a beautiful restaurant and lovely food.
Great staff, enjoyed the ambiance.
We always come as a group from our strategic Coach class and they have always accommodated us. The food and service is always outstanding. They do a great job of a custom menu for us and many chef treats that are unbelievably great! Thanks for always having fresh amazing food and great service. We love coming here!
The service was fantastic. We loved the wine list and enjoyed a special bottle that was perfect! The pasta our server arranged was also perfection. It was a perfect restaurant being both quiet for conversation and spacious.
The restaurant had a nice ambiance and an even better quality of food. I found the salad to be nice but a little disappointing. The rest of the meal[ was just much better. Especially the lamb chop and osso buco.
The service here is sub par. They change the silverware with every course but they don’t place then nicely. Instead they just dump it on the table. They also don’t clean the breadcrumbs off the table. No pride what so ever. Some of the food is good and some are just ok. Octopus and the shrimp rice was excellent but the potato croquettes and the veal was just ok. Better than most but I expect a lot more from a Michelin star restaurant. Might be back for wine and the octopus and the shrimp rice. The 5 course set menu was not worth it in my opinion.
For a valentine’s dinner, it was quite a disappointment. On opentable it didnt even say it was only course menu, and we only realized when we sat down. House bread was cold, and the server only took care of us when it was around 11pm when everyone left. We sat down at 9pm and for a four course meal it took way too long. The food was just normal. For the price, I expected way more. Quite disappointing.
Legendary restaurant in Los Angeles but quite a disappointment. Valentino’s on Valentines Day should be special right? Started out with no receptionist and us standing in the bar like lost sheep. Average Italian food average service. Had to ask for water and coffee refills more than once. High Prices. Bottom line is there was a reason the restaurant was 25% empty on one of the busiest days of the year
It was a delightful evening. Piero, the owner was charming. Of the 3 courses we had same and 6 that were individual only one item was good but lacked salt and pepper. Everything else was special and delicious and in a few cases extraordinary, as you would expect in a restaurant of this status. The wines by the glass were acceptable. The wait staff was attentive and delightful. My wife and I look forward to our next time at Valentino.
We went to celebrate an early Valentines dinner, since Valentines Day falls on Ash Wednesday this year. It was our first visit to Valentino and was the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. The service was impeccable. The food was first rate. The atmosphere was perfect for a romantic evening.
As a wine director at a restaurant here in Los Angeles, I am, admittedly, not the easiest to impress. All I can say is WOW.
From the moment I walk in, I am greeted by Piero Selvaggio, who, in the world of wine, is truly a legend .The sommelier, Paul, was extremely knowledgeable and completely in tuned with what hospitality is.
Our tasting menu was incredible, the courses progressed appropriately and ended with a beautiful dessert.
My two friends who joined both commented, that this was easily the best dining experience of their lives and I agreed immediately. The food was phenomenal, but let's be honest, good food is popping up everywhere in this city. What made this truly memorable was the service. We felt as though we were family, long time patrons of Valentino, and it was only our first experience!
I can't give any higher praise to this team. I've already started sending friends to visit!
10/10 THANK YOU!
Food was special, service great! Fantastic wine list. Will go back!
Simply stated: CLASSIC. Wait staff, décor, no rush dining, wine selection and food were all outstanding.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Southern California. Elegant, classy dining room and waiters who have been there for decades.
The pasta is cooked al dente to perfection and fish is always wonderful.
The food was good. The service can be better. We were celebrating our anniversary there and it was just good. I think the overall experience can be better.
The experience was just average. We did the DineLA special, and it was just ok.
Having not been here for a few years, we were spurred by DineLA to have dinner. Of the many DineLA menus I looked at, this was perhaps the best -- excellent choices for each course (limited dessert, but who cares?).
I had forgotten what a great restaurant it is: this is what every restaurant that has $20 plus pastas or $25 plus entrees should be. Nice rooms, lovely lighting. Several tiers of service people to make sure things are going smoothly. Not deafening. The courses popped out right on time, not one of them made us feel rushed or made us wait. Sweetbreads and a shrimp stuffed squid were delicious and the perfect size. Fish of the day was branzino and the caper sauce was not a salt-fest. The seafood risotto was perfectly cooked, creamy but still al dente and not one piece of rubbery shrimp, scallop, or squid. What a professional enterprise. And a surprising number of men had on sportscoats -- not a flip-flop in sight. A pleasant change for Southern California.
Can't recommend highly enough.
The food was absolutely delicious. If you are looking for a quiet, high-quality Italian meal - this is a great option.
I'd give the service/hospitality MORE than 5 out of 5. They made us feel so welcome, and were attentive and friendly without being imposing. It's the food that's not quite up to scratch, even though they clearly devote a lot of attention to it. The pasta we had, for instance, was tasty but over-sauced; if you had it at a less fancy restaurant you'd be impressed, but at Valentino it just makes you wish they'd gotten it 100% perfect.
They do go to impressive lengths to make their extensive wine list accessible and affordable. Some very nice suggestions are offered.
And the whole experience, given how accommodating and professional they are, made us want to come back again at some point.
Wish I could live there. Food is always impeccable without being self-conscious. Silky pastas, freshest seafood, sweetbreads(!!), and this time acorn fed pork, artichoke flan and lasagne with duck ragu (did I mention they have sweetbreads?) We stumbled on the Dine-LA menu and came out under our anticipated budget. They have always been gracious about guiding us to a wine within our price range and as usual, far superior to wine we find at a similar price range at other higher end restaurants. If I can't live there, I will just have to continue to be an intermittent visitor.
One of L.A.'s oldest and BEST! It feels like a hideaway. The Staff are professional ,service smooth and timely.A real Italian restaurant with real Italian food,. always fresh and delicious! I hope they never close their doors!
The place is very nice and romantic. The seats can be further away from the other party, however I did not hear people's conversation, so it was okay. I requested a special request which the rep over the phone said they will do , however did not come through. The mozzarella cheese stick was cold as well as calamari. Main Entrée was warm, not hot. Service was attentive in the beginning until mid way and thru. Need to request for bill, water and a new menu because the place was cheap on ink for both my date and my menu. Just disappointed, especially I like to go on date nice every other week.
It's been thirty years since we have gone to Valentino, and I decided to revisit it for my birthday.
I am so glad we went! Not only that--we didn't know it was the last evening for DINE LA, and our prix fixe meal was outstanding . I didn't feel like I was getting a "discount" meal for the lowered price. If I had ordered these off of the regular menu, I would have still considered the money well-spent. My shrimp filled calamari appetizer was heavenly. I loved the attentive staff, and adored the ITALIAN ACCENTS! We'll be coming back.
Food was mediocre but service was terrible. The server gave us an attitude the entire night and when we brought it up to the manager and he didn't really do anything about it either. Anyways, this is a restaurant I won't be coming back. If you have to go, the only dish I can recommend is the acorn fed pork.
Classy yet creative. Food was exceptional. Service was fantastic. Very approachable staff.
Very poor value for money. Food quality and taste is very poor and overly priced. No authentic taste of Italy. LA has much more better Italian restaurants than this place
It is refreshing to see some of the old timers still enthusiastic about giving their customers what they were used to have many moons ago and embracing the new trends by being innovative enough. Piero is an inspiration.... It is also a pleasure to be served by true professionals.
Very good food, including some unusual combinations (grilled octopus on a couscous with squid ink). However the service was very slow but the dinner was New Years eve and the restaurant was full and with their regular menu, so it may be justified.
I'll be back in a more normal day and see if the service is better
The service is terrible. I can’t imagine even no one would open the wine for us until I asked for.
Valentino is like a 60's fine dining restaurant preserved in amber and I don't particularly mean that in a positive sense. Having said that I appreciated the quiet in a room that conversations were possible. The service was good, although a bit impersonal. The meal was also good with the exception of my wife's veal chop which had to be sent back to the kitchen to be cooked to the requested doneness. Overall, our experience was good but definitely not great.
Valentino's has a lot of elegance with fine food and established and long lasting waiters. One of them, Paul, goes out of his way to be helpful. He also recognizes most of the patrons that frequent the restaurant.
Fantastic wine list and incredible service. I’ve been coming here for years the food was wonderful this is my favorite restaurant in all of Los Angeles. Great for a birthday celebration.
Always expect a culinary experience at Valentino's! Excellent meal. Excellent service. Fabulous!
A perfect Christmas Eve dinner with culinary delights, top notch friendly service, and one of the best wines we've ever had. Run don't walk for special occasions and everyday dining alike!
Nice place and great history. They really need to update the recipes and preparation. The pastas were C+ with an A+ price. Chitarra was plain ‘ol spaghetti.
Happy to have old school Italian, but it should have soul - this place has soul because of its history not its food. Bummed.
Wow, for all the chatter about this venue, and its reputation, we couldn't have been more disappointed. The food was good. That's it - only good. Very old-fashioned - and I mean old. There are so many great, new eateries in the City, we won't need to go back here.
I don't think there is another restaurant that is so accommodating and welcoming than Valentino. Piero Selvaggio welcomes you when you walk in whether it is your first time or 100th time. Most of the staff have been there for years and is accommodating with personal requests. It is a very special restaurant with delicious food and exquisite wine.
As usual Valentino is a top notch restaurant with excellent food and quiet ambience
Our waitress was not very good. But the food was amazing.
