Location (close to Wilma,Kimmel, etc) was prime. Neighborhood was quiet, but restaurant itself was very noisy. Food was good (especially Lamb Sliders & Crisp Skin Salmon) but Veg. Paella was a lot for one & needed seasoning.
Service was OK but seemed distracted/inattentive - maybe crowding or noise level.
Went on a midweek night for a family celebration - service was excellent. Tapas selection was excellent and we found something for meat=eaters, pescatarians and vegetarians. Paellas were also excellent. Definitely worth a visit.
Valanni was fabulous! Loved the food and the service was excellent! Definitely going back!
All the wait persons were wonderful and the greeting staff were very welcoming. It was easy to make an OpenTable Reservation. Great Bar
The food was great. We got the fried goat cheese & caprese flatbread both were great. We also got seafood paella & it was delicious. We sat outside because it was a beautiful night. The service was very good.
Everything was wonderful!
This was my first time attending. I love the service and food! The Ex-boyfriend was so good I had to have 2! Plan to return in 2 week
We met friends at Valanni prior to seeing a show at the Academy of Music. The bar is great ! It's spacious and comfortable . The Bartender was amazing - very friendly and attentive to details. He (Dave w/ GH) mixed the best cocktails. The wait-staff were equally wonderful and our great service was topped off by a delicious meal. I would recommend this place in a heart beat !
Food was very good and our server was excellent. She was very knowledgeable about the food and made great recommendations! Table of 4 next to us was extremely loud and rude but that was no fault of the restaurant. Loved the paella. Overall, a very tasty Mediterranean meal.
Honestly loved this place so much. Had no idea what to expect but it was great for our girls night and the BEST cocktails.
We had a lovely pre-theater supper with a variety of dishes and yummy cocktails. Service was friendly, helpful, and effective. Love the lamb meatballs and Brussels sprouts! This was our third visit, and we will definitely return!
The noise from the people at the bar was ear piercing.
My wife and I always enjoy returning to the place of our first date. The staff is always accommodating. My wife was disappointed with the description of the poached eggs with the lump crab/horseradish cream. She did not expect that sauce to be on top but rather on the side of the poached eggs on the English muffin. Other than that we always have a satisfying experience.
Had Easter Brunch here while visiting in Philadelphia. Really enjoyed our experience here. The poached egg with crab was delicious and the Lemon Blueberry Pancakes were some of the best pancakes I have had. The only downside for me were the breakfast potatoes. I am not a fan of potato chunks for breakfast although my husband seemed to like them. The service was very good. I would eat here again the next time I am in Philly.
Had a fantastic pre-theatre meal. Beautiful space. Service was excellent.
It was my lady birthday, this place was just the right amount of classy and poise. All while it can be the place you go to with friends after work this place also can act as a romantic setting. Staff was amazing and very kind! I have recommended several people to this amazing place already and will be surely to come back.
Valanni is a favorite happy hour spot for my friends and I! Be sure to try the X-Boyfriend drink!
The food is very good, but highly over priced. I would not recommend to go for a full meal, but maybe for a quick snack and a drink. The drinks were all overly sweet and watered down.
Overall the waitress was amazing, but the food mediocre. I remember the food being better. Felt rushed, had to ask for them to slow down and the server suggested that we eat faster...the plates had just been delivered and there was no more space on the table....
Probably won't go back until i forget about it.
My husband at I dined at Valanni before a Phila Orchestra concert. The location is convenient to events at the Kimmel Center. The atmosphere is intimate, slightly claustrophobic, with low ceilings. It felt a little like being on the lower deck of a cruise ship. We shared a variety of small plates, which arrived promptly, yet we didn't feel rushed. The food was well-prepared, but not outstanding in any way. A good option for everyday dining, or perhaps a fun night with friends.
Amazing chef tasting food. Ambience was great and the atmosphere was awesome. Service could have been quicker but at least I didn't feel rushed. Overall great place.
Empanadas = mandatory
Service wasis generally good. The brussels sprout appetizer was great. We tried the sample dish. Most things were very tasty but the paella was not as good as we expected. It was quite noisy and we had to speak loudly to hear each other, even sitting next to each other on the bench.
The food is fantastic!
Tapas style great for night out with a big group!
We ordered about 8 tapas style apps and the carne & seafood paellas ... everything was so yummy!
Our waiter wasn’t the friendliest and disappeared a few times. We had to ask for drink refills. I honestly think he was just super busy!
It’s a great Space with a fun vibe! Tables are close together so It can get a little loud. But a great spot in Center City!
We decided to come following a Philly Pops concert, having made a 5:45 reservation. We were seated almost immediately, something I had read in previous reviews was a problem for some. ! Nice table. Server (A) was very attentive. He explained the menu thoroughly. He also suggested we wait until we complete eating our initial choices before ordering anything else. Much of the menu is mezzos or small plates. Service was very good. We had a Caesar salad which we split, and a mixed mezzo platter which had a wonderful variety of choices from meats, hummus, and other spreads and pita bread, which we also shared.
Fortunately, we didn’t order anything else, as we were full- except for dessert. We chose the beignet and chocolate mousse...both very good. We definitely will return.
We visited Philadelphia a few weeks ago and chose Valanni as the restaurant to try for our evening meal. We were glad we did. We had a delicious broccoli salad and the mezzo board which contained a delicious selection of meats and spreads. The decor is quite informal and the restaurant convenient to theaters and the convention center.
Took awhile to place order. Mt friend got served coffee in a dirty cup. The brunch food: eggs Benedict on a waffle with lobster were over cooked (more like a hard boiled rather then poached). Would not recommend for brunch.
We had brunch at Valanni today and it was fantastic! Service, food, and cocktails were incredible. Definitely worth the visit! I should mention they also accommodated our group of 10 very well.
Had a first dinner here on a Saturday night. Our table was not ready so we were told to wait at the bar - took a while to get drinks at the bar - it was busy but the organization was haphazard. When we were seated at our table, our server announced that he was proud to have tracked down two water glasses for us - so there was some issue with there being enough water glasses for guests. A few minutes later, the table next to ours was re-set, but then another server came by to nab one clean water glass, fill it, and deliver it to a guest at another table.
Overall the dining experience was okay - seating is a little uncomfortable; decor seems dated, and food was scattered coming out of the kitchen - we were served some things rather quickly, and others took a long time. We overheard other guests asking about items they had ordered. Some of our dishes were also overdone- chicken empanadas were very crispy (if not burnt) and lamb meatballs were tough and lacked flavor.
Maybe it was just an off night, but the overall experience could have been better.
Table was not ready for 15 minutes after reservations. Service was intermittent. Tables are a bit too small. Wine glass took 20 minutes.
Food was good and so were drinks.
After reserving a month in advance for a 50th birthday celebration with out of town guests, we were placed in the very back room at literally the last table in the restaurant with a surly waiter. Albondigas and lamb were chewy and we barely touched them. We told the waiter and he said he doesn’t like them either. Memorable meal for all the wrong reasons.
Very inattentive service. Took forever to get drinks, which arrived just as food came. Forgot to bring one dish altogether. Brought wrong glass of wine and then forgot to come back with the correct wine. Waiter seemed to have no idea. Food was pretty good, not great.
Decided to go out to dinner after the flower show and my husband wanted to go somewhere that had food we couldn’t readily get around where we live so I randomly picked this place and I’m glad I did. The food was amazing. Tapas style. Highly recommend.
Dinner before show was perfect
What a great meal! We hit it before seeing a show at the Academy of Music and it was really awesome. We got the pre-theater menu and enjoyed every bite! Never have I had such delicious scallops. The servings were just the right size with an artistic flair! I also had the muddled jalapeno drink special with flaming rosemary sprig (maybe thyme? I'm not an herb expert) - really well done and not super spicy. The only reason we docked it was that, as it got more crowded, the noise level was kind of high and our table was right by the door where, when people were waiting to check in and holding the door open, we'd get hit by a blast of arctic air. Luckily we run hot so this wasn't a huge problem, but it was distracting. Not distracting enough to keep us from returning. We'll just request a table away from the door next time! :)
Party of 5 shared small plates and they were all delicious!
Disappointing to say the least. We had eaten at Valanni many times in the past and had very good to excellent meals. This time everything went wrong. The occasion was a birthday celebration and there were 3 of us for dinner. The server never offered the option of increasing the mezze plates from 2 to 3 which, as it turns out was good because the extra portions would have gone uneaten. We divided the two portions among the 3 of us but, sadly, the food was almost inedible and most of each dish went back barely touched. For the one remaining item, lamb sliders, we asked if they could bring 3 instead of 2. The server informed us that was impossible, we had to place 2 orders and get 4. We argued for a while and the server "checked with the kitchen" and returned to tell us that we could get 3 for a nominal charge. That was our mistake. The sliders were inedible. And finally our coffee arrived at room temperature. It took 15-minutes to get the check. It is sad to see the wheels come off what was once one of our favorite restaurants.
It was amazing, the setting was great and cozy. The staff was also very nice.
Food wasn’t very good.
