Valanni Ratings and Reviews
The menu was more bar-like than the last time we ate there, with only a few dinner entrees, but there were good options in the small plates (lamb sliders) and the truffle fries are delicious! People seated at the bar seemed to be enjoying their drinks and conversation. The service was very good; atmosphere pleasant, low-key and friendly.
We had a lovely Sunday brunch/lunch. Matt, our server was both attentive and professional, which was much appreciated. We both ordered the Mediterranean omelet. Beautifully presented and very freshly made. I added the shitakke mushrooms to mine. Proportions were generous and flavorful. We both substituted fresh fruit for the potatoes. They gave as a variety of different fruit including slices of mango, and apple artfully arranged on the plate. Coffee was bold and strong, exactly the way I like it. The drinks looked tempting, will definitely partake on my next visit. Only negative was small table for two.
The food was pretty good and our waitress was nice enough, but there are a few disappointing factors. When I made the reservation I specified that we were coming in for a birthday, which was my birthday. There was no mention of it by the hosts or the server. My mom told our server and she didn't seem to care at all. Also my moms entree arrived before most of our apps and the staff was annoyed she didn't want it 5 mins after we sat down. Also we were sat all the way in the back with no one else in the room and we were told we couldn't sit in the front room because it was too full but there were many tables available. Overall the experience was more annoying than enjoyable especially since I am a server and was looking forward to being served for once - pretty disappointing.
The food is interesting and varied. We found something for everyone, including a 13-year old. The tapas portions run from small to sizable, so be sure to ask your server as you order. Our only complaint is that the music was too loud. At 6pm the restaurant was buzzing with people, so the music level should have been lower so you could hear. Even our server was complaining that he couldn't hear our orders.
My husband and I shared the mezze board. We aren't big eaters and were on our way to a show. We loved the mezze board which was a very generous selection of tapas. We loved it. We were there early and had a lovely seat in the room with the big open window. Lots of fun. We would definitely go back.
Food was very good. Our primrary server was fine The assistant servers were intrusive and didn't pace the meal properly. We were not finished with our first course and the second course arrived as the same happened with the third course. Would think twice before coming back.
Valanni's has become the choice dining experience with grandchildren, and the latest guest has been one of my best voice students. Our server, Corey (sp?) showered us with attention and good suggestions for the celebration of my 81st birthday.
The location is perfect for the theatre venues!
Thank you for a beautiful evening!
We grabbed a table outside and the food was great. Service was a little slow and at times we felt like the servers had forgotten us, but our server was very nice and friendly. The food was great and it was awesome being able to try many different things because of the small plates. Would definitely come back again.
Food was good. Service not so much. Only ordered two appetizers and took an hour to get them 20 mins apart. Finished first app before ever receiving silverware (didn't receive until 2nd app came out) and was never given a dinner napkin. Left quite dissatisfied
Great pre-theatre spot! Casual yet sophisticated ambiance. Happy Hour menu offers wide variety of tapas and well crafted cocktails all at HALF the price! After chatting with our bartender he offered slight adjustments to our cocktails that made them truly custom and even more delicious! Attentive wait staff made sure we had everything we needed while giving us time and space to enjoy the Valanni experience. Pulled chicken empanadas, Parmesan truffle fries and lamb meatballs were among our favorites but we enjoyed everything! We'll be back for sure!
I like this restaurant and hope Monday night was an aberration. Food did not come out as it should have, some eating main course while another didn't get her till we were finished. Petite Paella not good, and I always liked their big Paella. brussel sprouts were delicious. Also chocolate beignet with ice cream.
I was impressed by this place. The food was very good. The calamari was not the best I've had, but I would recommend the fried goat cheese, lamb sliders, and jobs cheesesteak to anyone. The Oreo beignet was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Overall great place for a date, although they say is right next to another table in a room when all the other tables were empty. 4/5
My friend and I love the Happy Hour deals here before going to the opera (our second in a row this week as part of Festival O). Often we order from both the regular and Happy Hour menus, but this time the Happy Hour specials provided plenty of dishes for us to share. With Pinot Grigio for her and a grapefruit mojito for me, we ordered a dozen oysters ($1 each with three tasty dipping sauces), parmesan-crusted calamari, lamb meatballs in cream sauce, mussels in white sauce with chorizo and crispy fried Brussels sprouts--all excellent, though I prefer my sprouts halved or quartered instead of separated into leaves as these were. If we hadn't eaten sushi the previous evening, we would have regretted the absence of Valanni's yummy tuna tartare from the menu; I hope they haven't discontinued it.
Service was a little uneven though overall quite good. Our waitress didn't seem very familiar with the specials--turns out it was her first time working Happy Hour. Our oysters didn't appear until the middle of the meal and then only one plate of six, so we finished the meal with the second plate of six. However, the food started arriving promptly after our drinks so the sequence of it didn't really matter.
I had previously been to Valanni, but my friend hadn't. Everything was so wonderful! We both enjoyed the apps and the entrees. I would recommend (and have) this restaurant to everyone I know. I really enjoyed the mussels and the pasta dish and the salmon looked (and my friend said that it was great!)
Great meal during Center City Restaurant Week. 3 of us at dinner. We all ordered different appetizers and shared brussel sprouts, calamari & brie- all great. We were all of the same mind for entree & dessert, Paella & Oreo beignet. Both were excellent. Cameron, our server, provided great service. Nice room and energetic crowd. The drinks were a little on the pricey side.
We will return in the future.
Great food for sure. Had an 8:45 reservation and didn't get seated until 9:15. Seated at an extremely small table facing the bar so there were tons of people standing in front of us at all times but the service was great and so was the food. Only thing I would change would be the seating arrangements. However, would definitely recommend and we will absolutely be back!
Doing Center City Restaurant Week is our excuse to make the trek into Philly for dinner, and although it took us nearly two hours (Friday afternoon, two car accidents to avoid) our three-course meal at Valanni was well worth it. We called them to let them know of our 15-minute tardiness, and they understood completely. Our server Zack was jovial and very attentive. My lady had the red mussels, grilled beef burger, and seasonal sorbet, and I partook of the albondigas (lamb meatballs in almond cream and fresh herbs), meat and seafood paella (enough left over for lunch next day), and the Oreo beignet. All were scrumptious!!!! And the drinks, although pricey, were delicious. Try the X-Boyfriend martini with X-rated fusion liquer, vodka, and peach schnapps, and a splash of grapefruit juice! Tasty summery cocktail! We will most certainly return for another go.
