Valanni Ratings and Reviews
This was our second visit to Valanni. The food was very good although the menu had changed between visits. The only issues we had were the small table that we were seated at, with an ottoman instead of a chair, very little space between tables and the volume of the place during our meal. Granted there was a lot of events going on in Town that night but all of this combined did take away some of the enjoyment. Also since it was cold out and everyone was wearing coats, there was no place to hang them so they added to the lack of personal space.
We were unable to order several dishes at a time to share because of lack of space but at least the kitchen managed to space them out in arrival to our table.
We will probably come back but maybe not until Spring when it’s alittle warmer and there are fewer events going on.
We arrived early for our reservation and were directed to wait at the bar. We were not planning on drinking so we awkwardly ordered waters while we waited. The bartenders asked literally 4 times if we wanted a drink. I suppose we were encroaching on their valuable bar seats despite the fact that the bar wasn't close to being full. Not only did multiple bartenders ask the same questions but the same bartender hounded us twice for our drink order. Their behavior was rude and desperate. The hostess never came to get us from the area they designated we wait in, so I finally had to ask if our table was ready.
Had a reservation, seated immediately. Service was the greatest part of the night - checked in regularly, knowledgeable of the menu, and didn’t “ghost” at the end of meal when we wanted the check. Food was okay. Some apps were obviously frozen (cheese specific mezzes like fried goat cheese) and weren’t completely heated therefore kind of ice cold in the center. Wine was great along w/ ambiance. Tight fit for seating if you’re not at the bar. Overall good experience and worth trying but wouldn’t opt to return again for dinner date.
My first time there for dinner, rather than brunch. A good variety of mezze (tapas) choices. The main course choices were fewer, and - while good - not exceptional. It is a noisier place in the evening than in the morning/afternoon. Our table was near the door and host station, and when people congregated there, some of our party were occasionally jostled - an engineering issue. The restaurant is well situated, near Broad Street (Avenue of the Arts); the menu is diverse, the staff is friendly and mostly efficient (some things had to be requested, such as cutlery). Clientele skews younger in the evenings than at brunch. (We were "older"...)
My husband and I had a fantastic dinner at Valanni! We shared 5 small plates -- bibb lettuce salad, octopus, feta in phyllo, Brussels sprouts and greek sausage -- each of which was delicious. We also enjoyed the specialty cocktails and extensive beer list. Valanni was a great choice for the two of us but we wished we were with a larger group so we could sample more options! We'll definitely go back!
Food was really good and our server, Olivia, was excellent. My only complaint was that when we were first taken to a table we were offered what looked like a standard two top table, but expected to both sit on one side, I'm assuming because they couldn't put a chair on the other side and still have a wide enough walkway for servers to pass. I was there with a friend to celebrate her birthday and besides it feeling awkward for the two of us to sit next to each other instead of across from each other, there's absolutely no way we would have both fit and had room for our plates and drinks.
I really loved the decor of the place, the food and drinks were great, but I think a bit more thought could go into the design so that people don't feel they're being squeezed into a table like sardines. It's not like we showed up during dinner rush with no reservations. We were there for a pre-theater dinner and had a 5:45 reservation.
The place was pretty busy, it was a beautiful evening so dining was both inside and outdoors, plus we were a group of six, yet service was timely and pleasant and helpful. Location was perfect for us, food was great, draft beer for the craft beer lovers among us, and service really was very good.
The menu was more bar-like than the last time we ate there, with only a few dinner entrees, but there were good options in the small plates (lamb sliders) and the truffle fries are delicious! People seated at the bar seemed to be enjoying their drinks and conversation. The service was very good; atmosphere pleasant, low-key and friendly.
We had a lovely Sunday brunch/lunch. Matt, our server was both attentive and professional, which was much appreciated. We both ordered the Mediterranean omelet. Beautifully presented and very freshly made. I added the shitakke mushrooms to mine. Proportions were generous and flavorful. We both substituted fresh fruit for the potatoes. They gave as a variety of different fruit including slices of mango, and apple artfully arranged on the plate. Coffee was bold and strong, exactly the way I like it. The drinks looked tempting, will definitely partake on my next visit. Only negative was small table for two.
The food was pretty good and our waitress was nice enough, but there are a few disappointing factors. When I made the reservation I specified that we were coming in for a birthday, which was my birthday. There was no mention of it by the hosts or the server. My mom told our server and she didn't seem to care at all. Also my moms entree arrived before most of our apps and the staff was annoyed she didn't want it 5 mins after we sat down. Also we were sat all the way in the back with no one else in the room and we were told we couldn't sit in the front room because it was too full but there were many tables available. Overall the experience was more annoying than enjoyable especially since I am a server and was looking forward to being served for once - pretty disappointing.
The food is interesting and varied. We found something for everyone, including a 13-year old. The tapas portions run from small to sizable, so be sure to ask your server as you order. Our only complaint is that the music was too loud. At 6pm the restaurant was buzzing with people, so the music level should have been lower so you could hear. Even our server was complaining that he couldn't hear our orders.
My husband and I shared the mezze board. We aren't big eaters and were on our way to a show. We loved the mezze board which was a very generous selection of tapas. We loved it. We were there early and had a lovely seat in the room with the big open window. Lots of fun. We would definitely go back.
Food was very good. Our primrary server was fine The assistant servers were intrusive and didn't pace the meal properly. We were not finished with our first course and the second course arrived as the same happened with the third course. Would think twice before coming back.
Valanni's has become the choice dining experience with grandchildren, and the latest guest has been one of my best voice students. Our server, Corey (sp?) showered us with attention and good suggestions for the celebration of my 81st birthday.
The location is perfect for the theatre venues!
Thank you for a beautiful evening!
We grabbed a table outside and the food was great. Service was a little slow and at times we felt like the servers had forgotten us, but our server was very nice and friendly. The food was great and it was awesome being able to try many different things because of the small plates. Would definitely come back again.
Food was good. Service not so much. Only ordered two appetizers and took an hour to get them 20 mins apart. Finished first app before ever receiving silverware (didn't receive until 2nd app came out) and was never given a dinner napkin. Left quite dissatisfied
