Expensive, loud, very tight seating, with trendy but totally impractical small cylindrical Ottoman seating at many tables. Very uncomfortable seating with no backs for guests on this side of the table. Place was busy. Our server was unimpressive. WORST Surprise was a 20% tip being included on the bill for a party of 5, without disclosing this on the credit card slip. Clearly they have no issue with collecting duplicate tipping. Buyer beware! Will not return.
One of my favorite places to dine. Great food and service.
Excellent food and ambiance, but our waitress seemed only slightly interested or attentive.
We were looking forward to our dinner at Valannis. Showed up and were seated near open doors. It was cold so we asked to be moved away from the doors. They refused to seat us at tables that were reserved for a large party of ten. There were no other seats available except at the bar. This is a bad customer policy since we eat often in Center City Philly and find their inability to be flexible very annoying. We have eaten there before and were looking forward to dining there. We had an established Open Table reservation. The result? We left without eating.
I would recommend this restaurant with reservations. Atmosphere was good, service very good and drinks very good. The food wasn't as good as the last time we ate there. The brussels sprouts with apples were excellent, but my salmon was cooked very well, but it sat on a mound of uninteresting mashed potatoes with a few limp string beans on top. Not what one expects from a restaurant with these prices.
A brunch and staff that never disappoint.
We do a large group brunch every year after the Broad Street Run, and every year Valanni is perfect!
Everything was well executed, service was good. Meals were good or very good. The starters and desserts were excellent. Location is nice, and there is some outdoor seating, and large open doors on one side, providing a nice atmosphere, taking advantage of the nice weather for those who are inside as well.
Pre theatre. Food was nothing special.
We were surprised: the flowers at the front were dead. Only one menu could be found-- and it was greatly stained. The only reason we stayed was that the server was nice and he understood things were off. All the food came at the same time even after we asked that this not be the case.
My drink was good!
Great place for brunch.
They have some tasty meals.
Staff was attentive
Make sure you get the build your own Mimosas great deal
We were visiting Philadelphia, found this restaurant on Opentable. Was looking for a restaurant serving Tapas. Valanni’s was perfect!
Second time here and I like the gray consistency of the food and service, nothing really new just standard recipes cooked to perfection Valanni won’t let you down
The food was mostly tasteless, and the calamari was over cooked. All the mezze came out right away and all at once.
The food is good, the service fine - very friendly and knowledgeable waiter (he told us how big the Paella was so we didn't order two), BUT the noise level was just so high it made the experience unpleasant. We couldn't even be heard at our own table.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service. Great cocktails!
Innovative food selection; good drinks. A little noisy and pricey. Service somewhat lacking. Ambience unremarkable. Solid choice, but not a must.
Great place for pre-concert/theater meal. The mezzo board is an outstanding for both taste and value. The noise level is pretty intense. Come earlier if you want a quieter dinner. Service has always been efficient and personable.
Overall, a solid place for dinner. Great place to go before a show at Verizon Hall!!
We were there early (6 PM) on a nice day and got to sit in the open window. It was delightful - much more spacious-seeming and light than the tables behind the bar. The food was excellent. We especially enjoyed the Fried Goat Cheese, the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, and the Crispy Shiitake Polenta.
We were seated in the area in the front of the restaurant where every time the door opened to the outside a gust of air blew at us. Also the noise level was so bothersome to my husband that he took his hearing aids out and thought he put them in his shirt pocket. He must have missed the pocket and so they fell to the floor. We didn't realize this until we had left the restaurant. When we came back the table was occupied by a new party who had been served their meal. One of the customers found one of his hearing aids under the table. We couldn't find the other one and I left my information with the front reception I felt that the restaurant was not as concerned about our loss as the customers at the table. Our server was not as attentive toward us as I would have liked. We had to keep calling out for more service.
Have been eating here before ballets for a number of years. Portions keep getting smaller. Music is way too loud. Hard to have a conversation across a small table. Short walk to theaters.
Not in love with recent menu changes but I love Valanni’s drinks and atmosphere!
The food was excellent and the service was very good
The appetizers were delicious (especially the brussels sprouts) and the crispy salmon was very good as well. Our waiter was very good and helped us get in and out in time to catch the show at the Academy.
Food was generally good, some dishes were overly salted while the others were not seasoned enough. But overall the variety and taste are okay.
However the service wasn’t up to par at all. The service was very very slow, waited a while to get order placed, and even though we ordered paella with all the small dishes, it still took over 15 mins after we finished all the tapas till it came out (which is well over 40 minutes from ordering). And when it finally got here, we requested for salt & pepper, the server never brought it in over 15 minutes after 2 requests, so we ended up eating less seasoned food.
The food was exceptional. We started off with Hummus & Grilled Vegetable Plate, Crispy Shiitake Polenta & Parmesan Crusted Calamari which were all delicious. We also had Seafood Paella which was outstanding. The service was so so.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner Saturday evening. We ordered from the pre theater menu. It was delicious and we had plenty of time to enjoy our show after. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We’ll definitely come back.
Chicken was over cooked. Greek salad was excellent but could have been larger. The Mediterranean flat bread was excellent.
Small, but not cramped. Friendly atmosphere and staff. Outdoor seating available for drinks or dining. Food was excellent, along with extensive wine list.
Room was extremely loud. Not a soft surface in the place.
Yes, it was a Friday night, but our poor waiter did the best he could, couldn’t keep up with the task at hand.
As usual it was a perfect evening. Fab food. Always fab food.
Server was very sweet accommodating
Wait staff and management were excellent. We watched them manage incredibly rude customers with professionalism and grace. Well done. Great choice for a meal before the theater.
I chose this place because I wanted paella (I had the vegetarian version and it was fabulous!) but what really amazed me were the happy hour specials. They had $5 cocktails and a variety of small plates. The service was also very good with our waitress having many recommendations for dishes and drinks and even small changes you could make to spice up a dish. It's a great little spot that was perfect for a dinner for two with a friend.
The waiter was very friendly and helpful. The menu choices were wonderful. We really like the atmosphere.
We're looking for a brunch, but we're surprised by a drag party show.
It started worse as we were placed in a small room with 15 screaming females that were either having a birthday or a bachelorette party. The food had to be returned twice because of specific alergenic items were placed while we asked not to include.
The drinks were tasty but I got charged 2x, as if I had two drinks, when I asked for a double (bloody Mary).
It wasn't horrible, but all of these things could be improved by the MGMT.
Best Paella my husband ever had and he's hard to impress. Drinks are strong and the atmosphere was nice. We were celebrating our anniversary and Valanni did not disappoint.
We were fortunate enough to dine on a lovely evening and we were seated right at the open window. The people watching was great and so was the food.
My second time at Valanni and I can't rave enough about it. Will, our server was outstanding. It's very chic, the vibe, the energy, and of course the food and cocktails all made an incredible evening.
Very nice dining experience at Valanni's . Brussel sprouts and carne paella were excellent. Cocktails were creative and the music and atmosphere were perfect lending to the perfect date night.
