Sitting by the door and across from the bathrooms was a real negative. We had reservations and still were given this undesirable table. Someone with out a reservation would probably be seated there. Every time someone went in or out of the bathrooms a cold draft came over our table.

For a restaurant of this caliber not to provides its guests with small forks or a bowl to serve and dispose of clams shells with is shocking. Earlier in the year I mentioned the same thing and the waiter said he never heard of this. Guess he did not get out much. Our waiter this time was well aware that its proper edict to serve a small fork and provide a bowl for the clam shells for guests. I guess the owner of Va de Vi Bistro & Wine Bar has never traveled outside of Walnut Creek for steamed clams. May I recommend that he or she drive down to either Esin in Danville or Gianni's Italian Bistro in San Ramon. The chefs there can demonstrate the proper edict for serving clams to customers.

It was awesome. Fresh, local vegetables. Wine flights were great, and get the Oaxacan Old-Fashioned with the Short Rib, Trout and Cod!

Came here for date night and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Dishes were a bit on the salty side (especially the caper scallops), but unique flavors. My favorite was the beet salad, but we also had the flank steak and scallops. Overall I would come back again!

The food is consistently good, rich flavors, delicious. The prices are a bit high for the dish sizes. The service is excellent except for the hostess. She was unfriendly, no eye contact with me. She was either not having a good day or not happy being the hostess.

Best service and food in town, with exceptional vegetarian choices. I am not even a vegetarian and I love them! Did I say great service?

Tapas / small plates done right! Eat as little or as much as you want. We love this place and go regularly. The food is consistently very good. But the the fun part is the wine flights. A little bit pricey but predictably good service every time.

I love this restaurant. I have never had a bite I did not enjoy. The wine list is just a tour of the world in your glass. It's a bit costly but fun on a splurge.

Great spot! Fell into it earlier this year and we specifically went back for a birthday celebration. Food is fantastic, service great, everyone friendly and works together. Feels like home but you know you're out with ambiance and great eats & drinks. A must try if you've never been.

My mother always said, "Unless you eat your vegetables, you cannot go out and play." We'll if Va De Co existed back in the day, I could have left the table early. The beer salad, squash, and brussel sprouts tapas were outstanding along with the braised short ribs, ramen noodles with shrimp and other stuff. Kudos for service also.

I have been to this restaurant a number of times and consider it a special-occasion type of place, mainly because you have to plan ahead to get in on a weekend night. My friend was having a “big birthday“, and three of us were having ladies lunch before a play. When the waiter approached us, I pointed out that it was our friend’s birthday, but he made nothing of it whatsoever. It took a while to get our cocktails, and the food came at odd intervals. The waiter was not particularly responsive. I had made a special request to eliminate something on a particular dish, but I did not get what I’d asked for. No apologies.
I will definitely look forward to dining here again, but will pick menu selections more carefully and hope to have better service. The place is charming and offers a large selection of wine flights, as well as small plates that are generally very good.

On this particular visit, the risotto was a bit underdone, unlike the first time we had it.
That is my only negative.

This was our first time there. It had a good vibe, ambiance is great both indoor and out. They have an eclectic menu and an extensive wine list. The food and cocktails are very good, I can't say exceptional but the cost and quality is on par with other restaurants in the area. Will definitely go back for the outdoor dining and to explore other items on the menu.

We were indoors and the noise level was ok. I would have eaten outside but because of the air quality we stayed inside.

We always go here for lunch (meeting a special friend, or a celebration). Highly recommend.

I made a note in the reservation that we were celebrating our daughter's birthday but I was surprised that nobody (hostess or server) acknowledged the fact. It was awkward to mention it once we are already seated and dining.

I love this restaurant. The food is excellent, I’ve tried a variety of items and never been let down. Small plates good for sharing.
We sat outside this time which was peaceful and quiet, inside tends to be noisy and it’s hard to hold a conversation, but then again I’m usually busy enjoying the food and wine!

I have been here many times and love the food and wine selection. This time we tried something different. We had the heirloom tomato salad which was great. We had the burrata with toast and it was mediocre. They served it with a sweet dip which tasted just sweet. We didn't like it. We had the steamed clams. They were tasteless and were served in a red broth with a few particles of potato and vegetable. The broth was not good. What happened to some garlic with the clams? We finally had the short ribs with polenta. This was terrific. The wine was a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand and it was served ice cold - really good. Our bill came to $50 a person for a small lunch that was mediocre.

ALTHOUGH MY FRIENDS AND I HAVE BEEN HERE MANY TIMES, THE FOOD WAS ESPECIALLY OUTSTANDING YESTERDAY FOR LUNCH. THE RISOTTO WITH ASPARAGUS AND SHITAKE MUSHROOMS WAS SMASHING, THE HEIRLOOM TOMATO SALAD REFRESHING, THE SCALLOPS SIMPLY DELICIOUS AND THE DESSERT SAMPLER THE PERFECT SIZE FOR 2 TO END A LOVELY MEAL.
