Great just close tables for a date
Our first time here and had a wonderful time. Service was excellent and food outstanding. It’s our new favorite spot in Walnut Creek!
Love this place! Great food & wines.
Birthday dinner... lovely black cod. Enjoyed the green beans with miso butter - a new dish for Va do Vie. Our neighboring table ordered pomme frites which smelled divine. I love the wine sampler and the Lechon was, as always, delightful. Guava sorbet was intense! They brought a profiterole with REI candles for birthday celebration- delightful evening.
I thought that most of the dishes were excellent except one. The beet and blood orange was exquisite. I could have eaten that dish all day. The black cod was also excellent. The dish I liked the least was the seafood ramen. The ramen was drenched in oil - too heavy handed in this area. This was too bad as it took away from the food.
Staff was fabulous! Food was delicious!! Favorite was the short rib with Polenta! All choices were GREAT!!
Celebrated our Anniversary and the staff took note and helped make it a little extra special. Great food and service.
Wonderful tapas with their own creative spin on it. The cocktails were very good. And the wine selection was phenomenal. They also had a great selection of wine flights that I intend to try next time.
my favorite place
Great location, good lunch selections, and strong wine options with numerous flights (red, white, bubbly, etc).
Was expecting the food to "knock my socks off" but that didn't happen. The meatballs said it included tzakiti sauce but there was only a drop of this on one of the meatballs. Why bother? Most dishes were too heavy and fatty. The pate should be more smooth, it was too crumbly. The octopus was ok but what it came with was uneventful. Would have been better with a light, refreshing type of side.
Server/busser were great. Not all Food was up to par.
As always Va Da Vi did not disappoint. Ordered, brussel sprouts, swordfish, ahi tartare, pork belly (Luchon), and sweet pea risotto all so tasty. Gelato and a mocha for dessert.
Had a glass of 2015 Jax vineyards red blend, loved it, and Frank family Chardonnay always great!
Thank you for a great Birthday dinner!
Anniversary. Have spent several with this restaurant.
We come to Va de Vi every few months. It's definitely a date night favorite. Our last visit two nights ago had two hiccups with two different plates of food, something we've not experienced there before. We ordered the Duck Confit, and it was so hard to cut off the bone and very chewy when we did finally saw off a piece of two. We expected it to be more tender? We sent it back.
In place of it, we ordered the Pan Seared Swordfish and it was raw when we cut into it! Cooked on the outside, undercooked on the inside. We showed our waiter and asked him if it looked cooked enough to him?, and he said definitely not. He took back the dish. We said we didn't need another one. He ended up bringing us another swordfish anyway on the house for the mistake, even though we had said we didn't want a replacement, which was nice. The second swordfish was properly cooked throughout. Both the Swordfish and the Duck Confit were taken off our bill, so we were happy with the customer service. We think the chef must have been busy and rushing a bit, as it was quite busy in there for a Sunday night. Our waiter though was great. Normally, we have a fantastic experience at Va de Vi and just chalk up this night to an anomaly. We'll still be back :)
A lovely dinner party for our mother's 92nd birthday. Lots of options on the menu and we loved every dish we tried.
It was definitely an okay place. The salad that I had ordered was good, but could have done more in presentation, as well as in combination of its presentation.
It was as if they put the dressing down first, then the salad on top of it. The vast majority of my salad I ate without even realizing that there was a delicious vinaigrette underneath. It’s a shame because it was a small detail that could have made it tremendously delicious.
The seating was quite comfortable, but a bit cramped. The service was pretty good though. There was a time when I had to ask for a refill on my water, but it was only for a short interval.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
Not impressed with the food. Some of it was cold, some was over sauced or too much garnish. For example, rock shrimp lumpia sat on top of sauce, pieces were small and buried under a heap of fresh garlic and missing the shrimp. The dessert was the best.
We ordered 5 food from their menu: brussel sprouts, lechon, grilled octopus, lumpia and ahi tartare. The lumpia, lechon and grilled octopus are the best! The brussel sprouts and ahi tartare are okay.. but overall the service, ambiance and food are excellent! Definitely would be back for another date night with my husband.
Both the waitress and the staff rushed us through every aspect of the meal - and is was not a busy Sunday afternoon - they hovered over us to try to take plates that were not even empty yet - three times we had to ask them to leave the food/drink on the table - I have been to this restaurant many times and have never been so rushed and rudely treated by the wait staff. Such a disappointment - the food is always superlative but they did NOT allow us to relax and enjoy to meal - frenzied, bizarre staff this visit
Love that the wine flights menu is larger than the food menu! Great risotto- was tempted to get another order to go. Carnitas tacos also very good. Service was great and they have the cutest way to present your check at the end. Will definitely be back again
Overall this restaurant has good food with a nice presentation. However, we are gluten free and despite getting a gluten free menu and ordering from this menu, mistakes were made. This indicates that the restaurant team isn't cohesive and as attentive as you might expect. Our waitress was pleasant.
Have been coming to Va de Vi since they opened many years ago. We enjoy mixing and matching plates to suit our mood and having a great cocktail or trying new wines. During the summer, dining outside under the oak tree is not to be missed.
Lovely as usually! My favorite restaurant in Walnut Creek and the East Bay!!!!
I rarely write reviews but this place was amazing. Both my wife and I agreed that this place was better than some of the Michelin starred restaurants that we've been to in terms of everything. We actually made another reservation before leaving.
We love Va Di Vi when we can sit outside. It was cold so we were inside where the noise level is pretty high. The food was excellent as usual.
As always, my favorite restaurant delivered the goods on my birthday! My favs include the braised beef short rib and I can't leave without the chocolate soufflé for dessert. It has spoiled me for dessert at other restaurants!
The food here was amazing. Loved the small plate approach, great for sharing and tasting a bit of everything. Service was good, attentive without being intrusive.
I will be back.
Va de Vi is my favorite place in the East Bay and has been since I moved here!
Beautiful afternoon to sit on patio and catch up with loved ones. Great food and service. Lovely ambiance.
Food and service were both excellent. We ordered the octopus special, which was delicious! I've always had a great experience dining here.
We had a typical Va de Vi meal - excellent... all dishes were delicious. Pre-theater time is a good time to eat here, when it's not so crowded. Outside tables are quieter and feel private; inside is hopping. Really a good place to dine.
Raphanfellla Zin delicious! Steak & spagetti squash tasty but not hot when brought to table :( If served promptly would have been perfect! partners meal came 2/3 way after i was eating my meal. We were only steps from the kitchen ... disappointing
Really excellent food and service. The wine was unbeatable and the appetizers truly appetizing. Would definitely recommend it to everyone.
VA de Vi never disappoints! The food and the service are always fabulous. I look forward to each visit!
I absolutely love Va de Vi Bistro. Their braised beef short rib is amazing!!! Also recommend the Tiny Bubbles Flight.
Great wine list. Food is ok...we had the butternut squash aracini and the pear and goat cheese custard. The aracini was a bit underwhelming - bland. The custard was good. I enjoyed my risotto.
We were kind of moved along by our waiter...we specifically asked if they needed the table and he said yes. So, we paid and tried to wait for a space at the bar so we could continue to have a drink. While we waited for a space at the bar, our table remained empty as well as two other tables. A bit disappointing as my friend and I could have stayed seated and ordered more drinks.
Got seated 25 mins late even with our reservation, then got Stuck at a small table that probably should have been for 2 people not 4. Food was good, wine was great. Sever seemed a little annoyed but I've been there plenty of times before to know that it's a good place to eat!
