   We looked forward to dinner after reviewing their menu on line. We were told that they had changed their menu the week prior and were no longer serving those items. Ordered a Caesar salad. It was not tossed and the lettuce was so dry that I choked. A friend ordered ribs which were boiled then covered with sauce. Not a good experience. Won’t be back.

   Rib special was awful. Swordfish salad was good. outdoor seating was nice.

   Our server was fantastic - friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food, however, was fair. The brussel sprouts were so oily I cannot recommend them. Also, a different server came to our table to ask if we were interested in dessert. He listed only one dessert, and then it turns out he was wrong, the restaurant did not have that dessert, and they were out of most of the desserts they were supposed to have.

   We assumed this was a fine dining resturaunt, but in our opinion it wasn't. We found the menu to be limited in regard to fine dining entrees; typically you don't find tacos on a fine dining menu. Anyway, in addition to the abundance of flys, the food was just OK. Our $40 filets lacked good cooking technique. Won't be back.

   We were the last seating on a Sunday night and they treated us like we were the first - great service, not rushed, offered options to accommodate dietary needs. Matthew is a gem; his service level and personality were charming.

   This place is great! Matthew was such a gracious host. He made us feel like old friends. Great attitude and appears to love what he does. If not, he needs to be an actor. He made it a great experience for the two of us! Cheers to you Matthew!

   Thoroughly enjoyed the great friendly service by Mark and team. We loved our stuffed dates, Fillet Poivre and creative cocktails. A lovely jewel of a restaurant.

   We sat in the patio which was pretty comfortable given the 100 degree weather. (Thank-you, misters.) The server warned us about flies but I didn't think it was much of a problem, given a hot evening in the foothills of the Sierra. Service was friendly. Food was OK...not great but good enough. I'd come back. It's a good place to come before going to the local theater.

    Friends of ours had visited the restaurant a few years ago and highly recommended that we try it if we were ever in the area. Located in the Victoria Inn, the inn operates as a B&B with a casual fare bistro (the V Bistro and Bar) and a more formal dining room (the V Restaurant and Bar). But don’t be put off by my use of the word “formal” — we came attired in shorts, polo shirts, and sandals, although dressier clothes would be equally acceptable. We dined early (5:30) on a Thursday evening, and began our meal with a glass of Stevenot Bella Vita rosé for my husband and a Black Manhattan for me. I’m a big fan of Manhattans and learned long ago that one way to enhance the drink (in addition to using top-shelf or near-to-top-shelf bourbon/rye and vermouth) is to use Luxardo cherries as a garnish. Well, the V came through with one of the best tasting Manhattans ever — Makers Mark, Averna Amaro, Peychaud’s Bitters, and not one but two Luxardo black cherries. A perfect beginning. On to appetizers. Normally we have either appetizers or desserts, not both, so a decision had to be made early on as to which way to go. We were intrigued by the description and our server’s recommendation of the “Devils on Horseback” and agreed to split one plate. Which we did, and enjoyed every single bite. Entrées: Seafood aficionado husband had the pan seared salmon with the risotto and succotash, accompanied by a second glass of the aforementioned rosé, and I had the maple leaf duck breast with savory bread pudding, brown butter asparagus, and luxardo cherry reduction, paired with, per our server’s recommendation, a glass of Stevenot Duetto. Both entrées were perfectly prepared and presented. Dessert: We shared a dish of lemon sorbet, an excellent way to top off a simply marvelous meal. In summary, the V is a restaurant that we thoroughly enjoyed and one we would heartily recommend to even our most discriminating “foodie” friends. We will definitely return the next time we’re in the area.
