Utsav Indian Bar and Grill
One of my favorite Indian restaurants. I like spicy food and my wife likes milder aromatic food and they satisfy both of us. Last night we had a vegetarian in our group and two meat-a-tarians who do not like Indian food and everyone left happy. We have had large groups a few times and we eat there just the two of us about 5 times a year because it is next door to one of the Roundabout Theater Company locations. My only criticism is that their corkage gets a bit expensive when we bring in a bunch of wine collectors for a big dinner and we each bring two bottles, but that's not a problem for normal sized groups that do not BYO or that only bring one bottle per table.
Great pre-theater option
Always so yummy. Great service. Delicious drinks!
This is my new favorite restaurant in NYC. I heard about this place and have been looking forward to dining. I went with a friend and we ordered a bunch of items off the menu. I’m not too familiar with Indian cuisine and the waitress really took time to explain each dish and offered up recommendations.
Bombay Butter Garlic Crab
Chicken Malai Kabab
Crispy Quinoa Aloo Tikki
Vadouvan Spiced Scallops
Very good dishes Personal very kind A very good place to be and try a wonderfull kitchen
We went to the restaurant at 5:30 p.m. to grab a bite before heading to a Broadway Musical that starts at 7pm. We told the staff about our show then he arranged to bring all food promptly, appetizer, salad and entrees altogether. We could finish our dinner and could get to the theater 30 minutes before the show started. Nice service. Food was excellent!! Very good place and I would recommend to my friends.
The place was good and the food was amazing. The pakoda kadhi was my favorite
A diversity of menu options! Crispy cauliflower and corn and mango bhel for starters -- served hot with good flavor. I tried the Nawabi Prawns while my daughter had the Dal Makhani (simmered lentils) over saffron rice. Felt like a home-cooked meal. Service was attentive although not overbearing; pacing was brisk but not rushed. Perfect pre-theater meal. We will definitely return!
Met or exceeded every expectation. Staff was very solicitous in helping one of our party who has celiac and must eat strictly gluten free. Food was delicious we will return. We saw many families, excellent for large groups.
Outstanding in every way, excellent food & service with lovely decor & welcoming atmosphere.one of the best restaurants in new york highly recommended!!
Nice surprise near the theatre district. Ample buffet, attentive service and nice, but worn furniture . Would go again and recommend to others
good food, quiet ambience and closer proximity to mid-town
Excellent sea bass, crab appetizer was best blue crab and a large amount
A very classy nice restaurant. A warm welcoming, followed by an excellent service, with a lot of attention to details on order to please you. The food was great. Lamb chops was mind blowing. Don’t forget to ask for their chefs special. The service always with a smile and very patient with us. Conclusion, if you have the opportunity to go eat there, do not hesitate !
I love this place but....we went on a Saturday night. Tooooo many screaming misbehaving children with parents who completely ignored them. Talk the kiddies to McDonalds NOT a nice upscale restaurant! The children really ruined the evening.
Delicious as usual, perfectly prepared and served with a gracious manner. Overall ambience is really nice - the price fixed is a good value. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The service was great, the food was great and the price was very reasonable for NYC. What more could you want?
We came from a matinee and walked over. It took us a bit to find the restaurant, but was well worth the search. Would definitely recommend Utsav and hope to return!
A friend was visiting us. We visited Utsav. There was stale smell in the restaurant because the AC was not proper. Food was also not great. Paneer masala was very poor. Dal makhani was okay. The garlic naan was not hot. Overall did not enjoy the experience. Felt I paid too much for below average food.
All around, a great experience. Friendly staff, beautiful and roomy restaurant. My drink was a little on the light side (not enough "screw" in my "screwdriver"), but that would be my only complaint. Above all else the food was AMAZING and fairly priced!!!!!
Loved the lunch buffet here , best Indian place to eat near Times Square.
The buffet is outstanding and allows for very time-efficient meals. Desserts can easily be overlooked in Indian restaurants but they shouldn't be here.
Not organized at all ( bazar )
Great place to be! Good food and Excellent Service
The experience here was amazing! Service is on point. The servers know how to help out a customer. Been around the area many times and finally decided to go here. The food is amazingly delicious. Can't wait to be back!
I love the food at Ustav. Tasty and great variations in the menu.
Its a bit disappointing to arrive at the downstairs bar and see holes on the wall. Not a nice sight
We thank you for taking the time to write a review. Yes you are correct about the holes, the railing was dislodged from the wall late last week and the handyman was unable to repair it over the weekend. It's being repaired as I write this.
The food was delicious and the menu extraordinarily varied. There was an odd odor in the restaurant, almost like mildew. It's a large restaurant and the lady's rest room was small and inadequate. If you want to go some place as adults, don't come here; many children wandering around.
We are a kid friendly restaurant but we do ask our guests not to let their kids run around as its unsafe with our staff carrying food trays. Everyone once in a while a child evades our vigilant staff, they are so quick!!!!!
Mouthwatering authentic North Indian food. Highly recommend
I had dinner here yesterday and loved the atmosphere. My friend had the Paneer Chutney Tikka and I had the Tandoori Cornish Hen, both were amazing. We're definitely coming back in the near future and will recommend to friends!
I tried the Chicken Angarey which comes grilled with a spiced tomato chili sauce. The dish had the perfect amount of chili spice with a tomato base and I finished it all! My meat loving husband ordered the Tandoori Lamb Chops which he described as being tender and juicy with meat that fell of the bone. The marinade accentuated the meat with wonderful flavor and did not overpower. Upon our arrival the staff was friendly and helpful and went above and beyond with exceptional service. 5 stars and you must try!!
I don’t like there butter chicken it’s not tasty at all I only liked there lamb chops
Good was very good and the service attentive. The ambiance was unassuming. Would recommend for a good Indian dining experience.
The food was just OK. It was tasty enough but nothing special. I would not return with the other amazing Indian restaurants in the city.
Very ordinary Indian food.
Didn't get drinks for over 1/2 hour after ordering, then brought regular coke instead of rum & coke. Asked for Naan bread for app & never brought. Came with dinner. My daughter ordered 2 apps for dinner, and asked for them with our dinners. They came before our drinks & I told them to take them back. They reserved them cold with our dinners. Finally they added a 18% tip as we were a party of 5 for terrible service. The food was fairly good
Always a favorite. Excellent food, service and value. The team is a family and treat you as part of it.
went alone this time and the service was as attentive as ever and my particular server was not only pretty with a sweet manner but she also engaged me in conversation about what beer to select and took an interest in my likes and dislikes. a favorite of mine when I go to the Pels Theatre.
The food wasn't great. Channa Masala very under seasoned and gloopy. Samosas didn't seem fresh- rather dry. Naan was very thin.
It was an early reservation and they were very good at accommodating our theater time. The food was so-so.
Busy Saturday night - lots of hustle and bustle but service was good and food was excellent. Great vegetarian options too 👍🏻
