We chose Utsav for our Team Holiday Lunch. The buffet was a great way for non-Indians to taste many types of foods, and gave lots of options for the vegetarians on our team. The spiciness level of every dish on the buffet is labeled, so we knew what to expect when making our choices. I do remember the food being better last year (2016), but I don't know anything specific. Everyone commented on the ambiance - casual and elegant at the same time. The noise level was well controlled. We were able to have good conversations at a table for 8 without shouting. Overall, it was a good place for a celebration. I would recommend it.

I had a theatre ticket to the Pels Theater just under UTSAV, and was very pleased with the buffet of authentic Indian food. The service was excellent, and I had only to ask for anything when it instantly.

Great restaurant for pre-theater meal in heart of Times Square. Lunch buffet was wonderful with more than enough selections for a vegetarian and very well priced at $21.95! Ambiance is light and airy located on a skywalk with window walls on both sides. Will definitely come back.

Atmosphere and service were excellent, however the food did not match up. Starters were bland. Curries were nothing special and naan bread crisp and burnt.

Waited 10 minutes to be seated despite arriving when restaurant opened at 5:30pm with a reservation. Only 3 menus given for our party of 4. Waited 20 minutes for waiter to come over & introduce himself & take order at which time he took drink order & food order together. Appetizers came before our bottle of wine did. Had to flag down another waiter after 5 more minutes to get the wine for us which didn't arrive until appetizers were essentially finished. After initial pour, no waiter returned to pour additional glasses. The bill was then wrong and had to be corrected adding more wasted time as we were pressed to get to a 7:30 show. Food was very good which is the only thing that saved this from being a total miserable experience but not necessarily good enough to warrant a return visit.

Generally good in many respects, but the service was very slow and disorganized. The waiters seemed to be arguing over something (in a foreign language) and it seemed to involve our table somehow. We did not have a complicated order or difficult group, but the first food we saw was appetizers that arrived about an hour after we were seated. There were other tables who were seated, served, ate and left while we were still awaiting the first course. The entrees arrived about 1 1/2 hour after we had been seated, but by then we had lost our appetites and had to leave. Someone needs to step up and show some leadership, and get control of the staff!

Food was just ok. I’ve had much better lamb at various Indian restaurants. The sauces were not what I️ expected. It was just acceptable as far as Indian cuisine goes.

Pretty good standard Indian fare. Warning: portions are large. Consider sharing with your companion and ordering fewer dishes than people if in a larger group. In our case, four dishes would have been more than enough for our party of six. We did have several orders of bread and an order of black dal, so that helped staunch the appetite.

Also, if you say spicy, it will be spicy. What is merely tongue tingling for me was too hot for my friends.

Location, location, location. Major + is where it's at. Food comes second, but not bad, just rather formulaic and under seasoned. There were some natives eating there as so perhaps I am being over-critical.

I’ve dined at Utsav many times but this time food taste went down drastically. The food was bland...no flavour or spice. We were not asked about the spice level that they typically ask while taking the order. The tandoori roti was burnt. Overall didn’t enjoy at all.

Enjoyed their buffet lunch with a nice selection including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes. Food was replenished frequently so there was always plenty. The spinach and eggplant were especially good. Great location if you are headed to the Roundabout off broadway theater.

This was a delightful surprise - really excellent Indian food and they were very accommodating re meeting a pre-theatre timetable. Excellent vegetarian menu with some vegan options. On the non-vegetarian side, the sea bass was outstanding, in a very special flavorful sauce. Other favorites were the cauliflower appetizer and a unique rice/mango/corn appetizer. Look forward to returning soon!

Although a very beautiful space with attentive service, for the most part, the food was inedible. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes - skewered lamb - which was described as mildly spicy, “with an edge “. Thus after a bite of two, it was impossible to continue eating. Sadly, as this seems to aspire to refined Indian food, it was in fact overwhelmingly heavy, spicy, basically inedible.

The Paneer Masala was and Chana Masala was great. We asked for it extra spicy and usually I️ always have to put extra red pepper on my food but they had got it to a nice spice that tasted great. I️ am vegetarian so I️ eat a ton of Indian food and it was one of the better places for taste. I️ was not crazy about the saag Paneer but I️ think there was a spice in it that I️ had not had before at other places. I️ definitely recommend it to people who like Indian.

This was my and my boyfriend's first visit to Utsav for his birthday. I love that we had such great seating that made the occasion more special and intimate. We were given two tables next to each other, so plenty of room to set our food and eat comfortably.

The food was delicious, with the right amount of spices. We ordered 1 of the vegetable biryani, 1 chicken makhni, 1 of the chicken kebab, and an order of the Tokri. That was more than enough good for the two of us, I wish I had enough room to put all of it!

I loved the ambiance and the background music. That night wasn't too busy so it had the right amount of noise level.
Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would visit again and recommend friends and family.

We dined on a busy Friday Night! The food was very good. I had a shrimp dish that was in a very tasty sauce with basmati rice. My guests were also very happy with their vegatarian options. The service was attentive and professional. There was a very loud party in the next room and we complained. They were nice enough to close the doors to the other room so we can eat without the very loud party. Overall it was a very nice experience.

I am recommending this restaurant for two reasons; the food is very good and the location is excellent for going to the Laura Pels Theatre. The night we were there it was terribly noisy (which seems to be the new norm) and this was further exacerbated but very loud, screaming children who were running throughout this elegant established and whose parents seemed to think they were in their living room. We should have known there would be unpleasantness when it took 5 different people to balance our table and more than 1/2 an hour to get our food. The manager did come over and we let him know of our displeasure at the loud decibel but aside from nodding his head nothing was done to keep these kids in check. What should have been a leisurely meal in an upscale establishment missed short in my book. Still, the food was excellent (though pricey) and the ambiance - aside from screaming and ill behaved children - is elegant. Service just okay. Lots of people running around but not too many attentive to our table. Not rushing back though any time soon.

I frequent the broadway/times square area and love Indian food, so I was surprised I had never found this place before. It's tucked back on a side street IN BETWEEN the buildings of the side street (I wandered a bit before I thought to walk into the center plaza where the door was) and has a street level bar as well as the main restaurant upstairs. I was with someone who has difficulty managing stairs but there was a ramp into the plaza and an elevator in the restaurant so we were fine.

The restaurant was lovely with lots of windows and ambient evening light. I enjoyed everything we ate and would absolutely come back again. The Chicken Tikka Masala was amazing but super spicy, and the Korma was perfect. We also split the Samosa appetizer which was bigger than I thought it would be (3 large samosas) but they were very tasty so we weren't complaining. I can't remember the name of the cocktail I got (something about Monkeys) but it was strong. I'm looking forward to trying the Chai Mule next time.

The only downside is that after ordering and checking on us once the waiter sort of disappeared - we had been planning on getting dessert but by the time we finally found him he just dropped of the check and we paid and left. He also got a little snippy with me when I mentioned that I loved Indian food and that I had no idea the restaurant was here - something about that they'd been here for a really long time so I must not've been looking that hard. I'm sure he meant it as a joke but it made me feel dumb (and I LOVE going places that make me feel dumb...)
