Food was good, appetizer’s took a long time but main course came very fast
Our party of six arrived on time for our 6:00 reservation. The waiter didn’t come over for our order for about 8-10 minutes. We explained that we had a 7:30 show and that we needed to leave no later than 7:15. After waiting for over 30 minutes we had to corner the Hostess and demand our meal be served, we finally got our orders. That was almost 7:00- one hour after we first sat down! The food was cold. We had to rush through the meal, a totally unenjoyable experience. The only reason I gave 2 stars was that the manager graciously offerd us a 20% discount on our bill.
Pressured to order very quickly so we were not able to look through the menu at everything, then when when we were finished we couldn’t get anyone to give is our bill. We finally got our bill after 20 and asking several people. The food was good though. Probably not the place you want to go if you are trying to catch a show or have somewhere to be afterwards or allow a lot of time there if you do.
Food was wonderful, as was the service. Very nice. We were also able to be in and out quite quickly, since we had a show to attend that evening. In and out in about 40 minutes.
Very good food, attentive service, a little expensive, but that's expected in that area of the city
Vegetarians rejoice! Phenomenal menu selections, beautifully prepared and presented. Superb breads. Best mango lassi in town! Meat eaters, go for the lamb chops!
Utsav is well located in the theater district and as such is good enough ( I would like to give 3.5 stars, but that is not possible to do on your site) for a pre-theater dinner. The food is well prepared, but the choices are not very exciting and are directed to the non-Indian population. I would suggest that the chef revise the menu in order to make it more diverse.
always a pleasure but I miss the amuse bouche which has always been a part of the meal and when I mentioned it to the manager, he did not respond. Odd isn't it?
Utsav used to be the leader in this district. Unfortunately their buffet spread has become insipid and quality of service spotty. There are better offerings there if you look around. Wanted to give them a try after several years and came away disappointed .... again.
Excellent staff and food. Enjoyed very much.
Wonderful restaurant - excellent service, lovely food. Would whole-heartedly recommend.
Everything is delious at this place. I've been going here off and on for approximately 10 years and their service and quality has always been phenomenal. With generous shared portions and fresh food it's my favorite Indian food spot in the city. Plus they have the best garlic naan that I've had outside of India.
The atmosphere was very nice All if the servers were attentive and made sure I was taken care of The food was good but I should have asked for a it to be spicier
I went for my Birthday and it was a great choice
We love this place and try to have dinner here whenever we come to the city. It’s perfect for special occasions! Never too crowded
As usual, my friend and I greatly enjoyed our Prix Fixe dinner. The scallops appetizer was delicious as were the samosas. We shared Chicken Tikka Masala and the Gia shrimp which were excellent. My friend loves the mango pudding and I also like the Indian ice cream. Service was excellent and we made it to our show on time.
I always enjoy Utsav, especially that it is spacious and relatively quiet. The food is really good too.
Excellent food from the Samosa appetizer, not at all greasy, to the main Chicken Tikka Marsala Portions are plentiful as we could hardly finish the spicy chickpea bowl between the two of us, and the spice was just right. Good friendly service. We'll be back!
The bar hours were listed to open at 5 pm but when we arrived early for our reservation thinking we would have a drink in the bar first, even though it was after 5, they weren’t ready to open. That made waiting for our dinner reservation a little awkward.
Lovely and spacious with delicious food! Highly recommend Utsav.
The hottest Lamb Vindaloo I have ever had and delicious. I always order an antidote, Raita.
While the food was very good, I ordered a spicy coconut chicken dish and was served a similar shrimp dish instead. Because we were headed to a play and didn't have a lot of time, I ate what was served, although I did tell the server what happened when she asked how the food was. The server did bring me the chicken dish as well after being made aware of the mistake and I was not not charged for it. As for the value, most Indian restaurants serve basmati rice as part of the entree, but here it had to be ordered and was priced separately.
The lunch buffet was average, the vegetables were good but the protein was okay at best. The service was also slow, even after the place emptied out.
One of the best Indian restaurant. We had Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo and a Cauliflower dish. Not to mention Garlic Naan and Poori. Kitchen was very accomodating and made Chicken Vindaloo (not on the menu) for my mom.
Our favorite Indian restaurant we've ever been to! We love coming back to Utsav!
Saturday evening. Food was delicious. Room was NOISY. Service was inconsistent/ slow at times. Husband received his beer, but took 5-10 more minutes for my wine to arrive. Would give 3-4 stars for overall experience.
The price fixe menu is a very good value. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. The servers have no idea who gets what and they deliver the dishes before they clear.
Food was delicious! Esp fish tikka, cauliflour appetizer
We really enjoyed our dinner. Food was very good as was the service.
The food was good but took too long.
We enjoyed the ambiance, good service and good food especially the appetizers, coconut shrimp and spinach and ricotta cheese patties! We also enjoyed the rice pudding - delicious with coconut sorbet!
Wonderful to be back at Utsav! Never ceases to amaze. LOVED LOVED LOVED it!! The food preparations, taste and presentation are superb. We ordered a variety of starters and mains and they were all so unique. Lamb chops, tandoori broccoli, hariyali kebab, stuffed potato, baby eggplant, daal, poori were all to die for! And topped off with the yummy creme brûlée gulab jamun and rum infused rice pudding! Planning the next visit already!
Our go to place for Indian food when in New York City.
Service is slow and appears disjointed but makes up for the quality of the food.
It is pricey but the food was excellent. On thing that bothered everyone - they charge extra for rice! Really, what Indian restaurant doesn't provide rice with their food? Charging for a small bowl of rice seems
Enjoyed our family dinner ... great elaborate menu ... lots of choices ... good spaced out tables for family chatter n privacy !
Professional staff...well trained. prix fixe dinner a can’t be beat! Delicious food.
Great food and great service, perfect for group lunch.
Attractive room; good Indian food but could be spicier; attentive service.
Margin food and horrible service.
One of my favorite Indian restaurants. I like spicy food and my wife likes milder aromatic food and they satisfy both of us. Last night we had a vegetarian in our group and two meat-a-tarians who do not like Indian food and everyone left happy. We have had large groups a few times and we eat there just the two of us about 5 times a year because it is next door to one of the Roundabout Theater Company locations. My only criticism is that their corkage gets a bit expensive when we bring in a bunch of wine collectors for a big dinner and we each bring two bottles, but that's not a problem for normal sized groups that do not BYO or that only bring one bottle per table.
Great pre-theater option
