The food is good but not worth the price. The menu is short.
Delicious and creative menu, great staff - they remembered us even though we were last there almost a year ago. We are so grateful to have gone again.
We went during March and the restaurant was empty. We ordered the steak tartare, beet salad and bone broth. The bone broth was a standout - absolutely delicious with the addition of halibut bones creating a really rich and interesting taste. We considered sharing an additional dish however the $30 price tag held us back. Felt artificially high for the area and held us back from trying things. Shared a bottle of French wine that was $50 and nothing special. Given the wealth of local wines in this area, I was surprised their list had very little local flair. A good local Cabernet or red blend would have been much more appropriate and affordable.
Great PNW-focused restaurant. Creative and affordable offerings, beautiful setting, and smooth attentive service. Will be back.
Go here! The owners are incredible and we had a great time chatting with them on this slower night. They had just opened for the season a few days before our dinner. It was a perfect meal, we ordered a bunch of different things off the menu and the chef paced them out perfectly for us. You should take their advice, order a variety and share. This is THE place to go when you are on Lopez Island and want a refined experience without a pretentious atmosphere you would get in a city.
Locavore extraordinaire- amazing original concept food presentation and choice. not a cookie cutter menu, and all local ingredients. I love Chef Coffee's food. Love that I can go here, as I am on Lopez Island a lot. Plus for visitors, not so expensive to stay on the island, or only 40 minutes from Anacortes anyway, so perfect for intra-island or mainland visitors who don't spend the night! But if I were you, I'd stay on Lopez, you can even visit some of the farms where the food is sourced.

The St. Valentine’s Day tasting menu was fantastic! All six courses - from the house-made coppa with grilled oyster mushroom to the crepe cake with strawberries were beautifully prepared, imaginative and delicious! All local too and quite frankly at a very reasonable price. The server was fun and knew her stuff - highly recommended.
Second visit. Very creative food, but goes a bit to far. Recent visit was about. 50/50 on food. Some excellent- beet salad over walnut cream and a salmon with nettle sauce excellent. Beef steak poor quality meet, chewy and undercooked but nice sauces. Rutabaga and prawns were not a good pair and please give up on the leek ash. Desert excellent. Wine pairing also hit and miss. Great sparkler to start, rose that had little or no flavor, nice nod to local but LIv port not very good. Great dessert on both occasions. Where this really falls down is service. Just not friendly and for a place like this needs to more fully explain each dish and the thought behind it. Our server clearly was not up to speed.
We went for the prix fix New Years Eve dinner. It was superb: amazing,innovative, and complex flavors that challenged and satisfied. The wine pairings were fantastic as well.
This is an extraordinary dining experience. We are always very impressed each time we have a meal there.
As the restaurant was completely full, the noise level was quite unpleasant. Even when th restaurant is not full, noise is a problem. They need to make some changes to mitigate the noise levels.
Absolutely amazing. One of my favorite restaurants now. They actually do farm to table. We dine mostly in the Seattle/Bellevue area and this was a refreshing & delicious restaurant.

Best restaurant in Lopez. Small plates. Our party of a 5 had the whole menu, and enjoyed each one. Desert not quite as good but overall we loved the place.
Introduced son and daughter in law, sophisticated foodies from San Francisco, to our great Lopez restaurant. They loved Ursa Minor...(says it all!)
I do wish the restaurant were a bit quieter....hang baffles from the ceiling?

Gorgeous space with thought provoking details throughout, not just in the ambience, but especially in the read and taste of all the menu items we had. Three of us dear friends casually sat together and enjoyed the full menu start to finish. Each dish visually captivating that also delivered on balanced flavors with some pleasant surprises and comforting sensations . Obvious that Chef, Nick Coffea, has a story to tell through his display of colors and textures using all local ingredients. Ursa Minor's wine list, carefully chosen by the owners Nick and Nova, made it hard for us to narrow down our choices. We were beyond pleased to say the least. All together; the wine, the food, the service and location of Ursa Minor left the 3 of us feeling magical. We all agreed that our experience is now one of the best meals of our lives. Thank you Lopez and Nova and Nick. Hope to make it back soon.

Interesting menu, creative use of fresh local ingredients, great flavors, service was helpful but low key. We definitely felt like we had things we wouldn't get anywhere else.

One of the most creative, satisfying dining experiences I’ve ever had. Fresh, local, seasonal ingredients prepared in unique ways. The small plates are perfect for sharing, a must since you’ll want to try everything. In this chef’s capable hands, I’m always happy to try something new. My only regret is the noise volume when the place is full.
This restaurant is a real treat featuring creative, artistically prepared food from local ingredients. Ambitious flavor combinations, pleasing to the palate, make for a special excursion of an evening for anyone ready for some small adventure. It's not too much of a risk, as it happens, as each dish is a revelation. Good food in a pleasant atmosphere is an uplifting, transcendent experience. And that's what we enjoy each time we dine here. I have been looking forward to eating at Ursa Minor since it was announced. I've felt some tangential connection to the chef as he ran restaurants in our Capitol Hill neighborhood and elsewhere in Seattle, and when it was announced he'd be opening his own spot on Lopez Island, where we spend a weekend or two each month, I was not only excited that Lopez was going to get a special restaurant but that I'd also get to follow this chef's creativity to a place that I love. Our first time dining at Ursa Minor was excellent. The dining room is modern and comfortable, uncluttered, letting your gaze naturally drift out the large windows towards Fisherman's Bay. The menu was as approachable as it was creative, and the offering could be described as Pacific Northwest comfort food. What we ate truly felt like something specific to the San Juans--an emphasis on vegetables, with smoked and pickled flavors. Eating here felt fun, relaxing, and interesting all at once. Service was outstanding. I'm looking forward to coming back as the seasons change to see how the menu changes.

We were excited to try a new, hyper local restaurant on Lopez Island. The food was good but I do not think the servers were well versed about some of the food. Also, I do not like their cocktail program - no lemon for the martini and no bitters yet plenty of French wines on the list? That did not make sense. Love local and seasonal but I am not sure how long this particular iteration will last.

Lopez Island is truly blessed to now have Ursa Minor as the #1 farm to table restaurant in the San Juan Islands. Chef Nick Coffee's creativity and unique use of local ingredients cannot be overstated.
I've eaten in very fine restaurant all over the world. Ursula Minor rates right up there for unique, fresh and creative dishes. We also were expecting to pay more than we were billed.
A new gem in the San Juans!!! Cute couple exercising their creativity with talent and energy. Worth the effort to go to Lopez. Very charming.
Ursa Minor is a unique restaurant, offering local food and creative presentations. We live on Lopez and come here for special occasions. Ursa is designed for adventurous eaters who don't want their mother's recipes.

The food, what little you receive for a very high priced plate was tasty. Sadly it was our 35 th wedding anniversary and we had to go home and eat again
We had read reviews of Ursa Minor and hiked the mile over from Lopez Harbor where we had moored for the night. When we arrived, we were taken by the lovely simple appearance of the location -- a vine covered trellis and outdoor dining, plus the vaulted ceiling and clean lines of the interior. But when we looked at the menu, we asked ourselves "Is this foodie obsession gone amok?"
We were urged to order 8-10 plates among four of us and that would have meant ordering almost everything on the menu. Every item is either grown or foraged on the island, which made for some odd combinations. We ordered five plates instead, plus the homemade bread (which should not be missed, with the salted butter with ground fennel seeds).
Despite the strange combinations on the menu, the food was superb. The taste of freshness was redolent in every bite. The flavors were vibrant and yet subtle. We ate every bite and all but licked the plates.
You need to be a foodie to eat here -- but your palate will be well-rewarded if you do.

Exceptionally creative and delicious food in a beautiful setting. When the service is a bit more polished, this place will get top reviews from everywhere. Worth traveling to Lopez.
