Memorable dining experience - thoughtful conception and delicious execution without being precious. We love Sitka and Spruce in Seattle and The Willows Inn on Lummi Island and this place reminds us of both!

We're long time residents in the San Juans and made the trek to Lopez to try Ursa Minor for the first time. Boy, was it ever worth the trip!! Low-key, casual atmosphere, and food that is quite innovative but not inaccessible or 'weird.' Every single thing we tried was original and absolutely delectable. Would go again in a heartbeat and look forward to our next visit!

Tinny plates but really fun and interesting. If the weather is good request an outside table.

My message to the owners: We dropped in without reservations. Nova seated us and Kelly served the three of us. Simply thank you for the beautiful experience, the lovely wines, the gentle, friendly service, and the truly remarkable insight into the cuisine of place. I said to my companions "every dish is so subtle, deeply complex, layered in flavor, balanced, with insight and intent". From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your work.

As far as I know, one of the best restaurants in northwest, truely focusing on local/seasonal/natural food experience in cozy atmosphere.
They have various cooking approaches (raw, cooked, pickled, dried, fermented preserved etc.) based on the status of local, almost daily-changing ingredients (ripe/unripe, young/aged etc.), also Chef Nick Coffey, a really good man, is greatly familiar with fermentation techniques and you might find something fermented (and of course, tasty!) on your dishes.

Food was great, but was dining with my young daughter and there wasn’t a changing table in the bathroom. Only fault I would say, however they are kind enough to bring me to a private area so I could change her.

My husband and I were super impressed with everything about Ursa Minor. Warm, friendly, timely service, incredible food. We had the beef carpaccio, crab in nasturtium leaves, snap pea with morels salad. Everything was exquisitely prepared, presented and so very delicious. To top it off the ambiance is elegant, simple and beautiful.

This is an excellent shared experience on beautiful Lopez Island, falling in the unique category of high-class fine dining that doesn't necessitate getting all dressed up. It does, however, necessitate reservations, if you're smart. My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary at Ursa Minor, and it was a delight. We shared four different shared plates, each full of unique and intentionally crafted local flavors. We also enjoyed some great cocktails, and a little bubbly on the house (a 30th anniversary treat!). We finished off with house-made ice cream that was as unique as the rest of the meal. If not for this being out on an island, we'd be visiting again soon!

A gem of a restaurant on a lovely island! The restaurant is quaint and comfortable, with a mid-century modern decor. We enjoyed the tasting menu - which showed off the quality of the products and their precision and skill of the chefs. Cannot recommend this place enough and I'm excited to plan another visit to Lopez Island to eat here again.

It was an amazing experience! Beginning from the incredible bread to start through the trio of ice creams at the end, every dish satisfying and inventive. Three of us shared 6 plates, especially loved the halibut - perfectly cooked and flavored. It was pretty quiet in a good way, we ate inside because it was quite windy outside. Service was excellent and well informed.

Amazing food and spot-on hospitality--so glad we booked ahead for our trip to Lopez. They do a great job of being creative while sticking with local, seasonal ingredients. They're using some really interesting techniques and flavors, but it still felt like a comforting, relaxed meal. Not an easy feat. All of the servers were warm and welcoming, the pace of service was great, and the place is full of thoughtful details.

We had a really nice dinner at Ursa Minor. The menu was a good assortment or locally grown ingredients. Each plate is a sharable plate. The food was fantastic and a good mix of things you might think don't go together well. It was a great experience and the service was fantastic. The costs of each dish ranged from $14 for a started to $29 for a main. Be prepared that the dinner will be expensive but it was a great experience and I would do it again.

A great experience! Unique dishes that were fresh, local, and -most importantly- delicious. We loved the emphasis on local seafood and veggies. We also enjoyed the unexpected pairings of ingredients, like a savory oatmeal with flavorful roasted chicken. Service was very friendly and attentive. We dined outdoors on the patio, which had a view of Fisherman Bay and a small garden with blooming flowers. We hope to return on our next visit to Lopez Island!

We really enjoyed Ursa Minor. The food was delicious! We tried most everything, and we were too full for dessert. They use fresh, local ingredients, and we appreciated their bartender’s attempt to concoct something like lemonade for two young boys - one boy liked it and the other didn’t. We hope to visit again in a different season!

I visited Lopez Island recently for the first time with my wife for our anniversary. We stayed at the Edenwild in the village, a short walk to Ursa Minor. We both knew the second we read the menu that we were in for a treat. I first ordered the wood fired bread and cultured butter, it was a nice start. Their wine list was small but decent, so we decided on a Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley which was very good. For shared plates we decided on the grilled brassica raab, burnt cabbage, salish sea halibut and the rabbit. The cabbage and halibut dishes stood out, but all four plates were excellent. Very well presented and timed perfectly. Our server was great and very attentive. For desert we went with the flowering currant ice cream which was also awesome. I had a glass of local whiskey to wash it all down and we went on our way. We will certainly be back to Ursa Minor. I cannot remember ever having such an awesome culinary experience anywhere in the San Juans or Skagit county.

We shared the menu item 'potatoes, fermented veg, yolk sauce, whey & salmon roe', next the 'salish sea halibut, celery root, rutabaga, nettles & hazelnuts', and the 'rabbit, grains, mushrooms, truffle & black garlic'. Of these the potato dish was my favorite.

Then finished up with the 'pumpkin seed miso ice cream, malt & honey crumbles'.

Nice selection of wine, interesting selection of beer.
