Urge Gastropub & Whiskey Bank
Urge American Gastropub is a restaurant and whiskey bar in the Oceanside area of San Diego. Modern lighting fixtures and décor create a unique and exciting eatery. Beside the main dining area, there is also a large bar and lounge room where anyone can relax and have a drink of choice. Urge American Gastropub is a good place for lunch or dinner as a family, but it also has excellent nightlife vibes in the evening.
Burgers, sandwiches, creative appetizers and classic American meals like meatloaf and wild whiskey pork chops are all on the menu at Urge American Gastropub. Guests can choose to enjoy some smaller plates to share over drinks or order an entrée to fill themselves up with great food. The beverage menu is extensive, with large selections of traditional cocktails, wines, beers and whiskey.
Terrible service; if you're going to include bratwurst, at least have a recipe that's better than what one can do at home.
I realize they were closing permanently this weekend, but considering they have other locations, I thought there would be more effort to give a great final dining experience to their local Ocranside patrons. Service was poor, took nearly 20 min. to place a drink order and our food was not even prepared to our order (well done burger when we asked for medium rare). I doubt we will visit any other Urge locations following that.
I really like urge! The food and drinks are good and the service is good too. I wouldn’t say the menu is anything special but for my husband and I’s weekly date night it is a favorite :)
Excellent Sunday brunch. Food was excellent and ambiance is nice. Service was spotty with water glasses not being refilled for too long. That did not detract from nice experience.
Food was good, but we all like our waiter, he was nice , sweet, & very kind, we enjoy it very much
Awesome night! would recommend it again and again
Our waiter, Colin I think, was great. He was very personable, attentive and friendly. The music was too loud for us and he had it turned down. 👍
Our first time there for a birthday celebration. Had a good time the food was excellent and so was the waitress.
Awesome laid back feel with amazing drinks and food! Easy and fun
Great service great waitress
Music was pretty loud and the AC duct was leaking on our table. But that did not matter as service was outstanding. Food was incredible and I love the Whiskey pours🥃🐱. My favorite restaurant in Oside!
Went there for my boyfriend birthday! Had the best time! Kicked butt at Jenga and the Connect 4 games. The staff was friendly, the serves was awesome and food was FABULOUS!
Absolutely loved spending a Saturday afternoon on the patio! Servers are very attentive, bartender was fantastic (the craft cocktails are excellent), and the food was super delicious. I highly recommend the poutine!
Service was very slow but the manager gave us free dessert which was nice. Food was OK
Nothing compared to some of the other restaurants we’ve been to in Oceanside.
Family birthday dinner
Friendly and polite people. Menus are rather limited but tasty nonetheless. Great scotch and beer selections. With a very good old fashion.
Our server couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating! The food was outstanding!
Had a really nice Father's Day lunch with the wife and parents today. Tri tip sandwiches they had on special were great. Will continue to patronize here and their other locations.
Our only complaint was there was only one waitress as far as we could tell, so she was amazing but very busy and that slowed service down.
Food was good, drinks were delicious, but service was slow.
They have a beet and goat cheese salad and if you add ahi tuna...it is absolutely delicious!
Large whiskey and beer selection, paired with great food and friendly staff.
Delicious! Chose Urge because it had open reservations for Mother’s Dat and it did not disappoint! Food was delicious, $5 mimosas, they even gave both moms in our party roses. Service was attentive and although it wasn’t cheap it also wasn’t a special Mother’s Day gouge like other restaurants do! We will definitely be back.
Great dinner, excellent whiskey flights
The food was INCREDIBLE and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back!
Just ok. Fried pickles and calamari were tasty and the high point of the meal. Sandwiches were disappointing—one of those, good-ingredients-can’t-tell-because-too-much-bread casualties. Server was nice but we went half the meal with empty drinks and couldn’t find her soon enough. I don’t need to go back.
Great food. Bar was “backed” up so beers took a while.
Great place, great vibe and the food was excellent. We will definitely return!
Our reservation was for 5:30 and we were promptly seated. The table was adorned with rose petals for Valentine’s Day and my wife received a single red rose by the hostess (a classy touch and much appreciated). The dinner menu was special for the evening and we enjoyed an appetizer, main course, and dessert. Overall the price was reasonable, the service good, and the evening turned out to be very gratifying! We had never been here before, however we plan on returning soon and bringing friends with us! Thank you Urge for a memorable evening!
Great drinks, great food! Friendly staff!
This was our first visit to this restaurant and we were very pleased with the food, service, wait staff and environment! We started with appetizers of wings, Brussel Sprouts (which by the way are delicious) and calamari and finished with their hamburgers. All of the The food we ordered was very good! We will be going back 👍👍
Poor quality food and horrible service. Have been here many times and not sure what has happened or if it was an off day. Won’t be going back anytime soon. There are too many other awesome restaurants in the area to waste money here.
Everything was delicious! We had a great time! Brussel sprouts are amazing!
Servers & food were average. We ordered drinks from our server but our server disappeared for 20 minutes. We had to ask another server to get our drinks. We also ordered 1 of the 4 “featured” whiskey flights only to be told the “whiskey bar” was out of those whiskeys. Here’s some help...either tell customers when seating them that you’re out of a product OR don’t run out of a featured product. Not sure if we will be back.
Great service. Excellent choice for a sports bar. Food is just ok
We(3) ordered a bottle of wine. Waitress poured into glasses. She had run away by time I noticed that my glass had lipstick lips on it. Looking for her to replace it, she never came back so I went to the bar to get a new glass.
I ordered the chicken cutlet that was smothered in spicy mustard on top of mashed potatoes. When I tasted the potatoes, they were cold. When the waitress came back to ask how it was, I told her. She offered to bring it back to the kitchen to heat the plate up. I declined since I didn’t want my chicken to be nuked. Waitress shrugged her shoulders and departed.
With a reservation and the restaurant about 1/3 full, it took the hostess 10+ minutes to seat us, a party of 2. We never figured out what the issue was, or why she couldn’t figure out what party to put where, at what table. She had 4 parties backed up waiting to be seated while she tried to figure out where to put people in the restaurant. The job seemed way too difficult for her! That issue unfortunately set the tone. Although our server was very friendly and efficient, and the food was very good, we just were less than impressed overall.
We had Sunday lunch at Urge. There were 4 of us in the party and each of us really liked what we ordered. We started with the hot soft pretzel while figuring out what to order. This was easily split between the 4 of us. The burgers were huge with lots of sauce and extras. The wedge salad was very good. The dressing was just right. One person in the party ordered the brussel sprouts. They were a meal in it self.
A wide choice of beers and a nice menu of crafted cocktails. All and all for what we ordered, including drinks we were out the door around $130 for 4.
The noise level was out of control. People were playing drinking games and literally screaming and shouting. Not just one table, many others. Party atmosphere wasn’t right for my occasion but could be fun under the right circumstances. Service was generally slow and inattentive. Food was good but nothing special, the items are not any different from numerous other gastropubs in the area. Cocktails were delicious.
This last time we went, they were understaffed or something... Food was undercooked and/or sitting up there for a bit. No one likes coagulated fried cheese curds, especially when I crave them sometimes and came for them and told my friends who joined us about them! Waiter was not familiar with babies... our friend had some needs for her 1 year old and they weren't met. For example, the baby spilled some water and he didn't offer us a towel or help clean up, or even give us extra napkins when we used ours for the spill. Just kinda annoying when sometimes families who come may need some extra attention. My 5 year old daughter accidentally dropped a slider patty and he picked it up and said "did you throw this at me?" She was confused if he was joking or not... so was I.
Anyhoo, we usually love this place but attention to detail and great food should be top notch, even when busy/not busy, staffed/understaffed. Especially when you're paying high prices for pub food. We live local, so we'll of course go again, but hopefully someone from Urge O'side reads this!
