Waiter was very forgetful. Had to ask multiple times for chips. First batch was stale.
Went there for the first time with my wife and friends, the atmosphere was energetic and service was great. Great selection of choices on the menu and blanca queso was really good. We'll definitely be going back.
DELICIOUS food, like I cannot stress this enough. just hardly any alcohol in the margaritas. Bummer :(
Place used to be great but has been updated and for the worse. Music was so loud you had to scream to talk. Twice I had ice tea brought to me that was almost nothing but water. Looks like the menu changed recently and the food was good but not as good as it was previously
This started as authentic Mexican and very good when they first opened. They re-vamped the menu and now it's much more standard american mexican restaurant- tacos & enchiladas. If you're looking for something special, this is no longer it. Food was fine, service was ok. We were disappointed in the new menu and missed some of the delicious dishes they used to have.
I used to love the previous menu, it was authentic Oaxacan and now it's more TexMex. The food is still good and the staff and manager are great!
Boom! Place is fabulous, can't wait to go back again and try some adult beverages along with their delicious Guac/enchiladas etc.! Don't hesitate to check this place out and enjoy their food, it will not disappoint!
The new menu is missing the innovative note that the restaurant had with the original chef. Now the food is average tex mex, missing spice and flavor. The bar scene is still fun, but no longer a foodie experience.
Awesome place. Revamped menu is fantastic. Could’nt recommend this more.
We waited for at least 30 minutes at our table to order drinks. However, after we voiced our concerns we were well taken care of.
The guacamole, smoky salsa, chips and Urbano 116 margarita are all excellent. I got the mushroom tacos one time and the chicken enchiladas another time, and they were both very average at best. Also it is very expensive for the amount of food you get.
Really lovely dinner—good sized menu with interesting choices. The frozen margaritas and Mexican coffee were particularly delicious.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Would have given “service” more stars if we had had a better experience with the first waiter we had that night. We must have become “that” couple for asking to move further back away from the bar so we could hear each other talking. The waiter was quite rude about it and showed 0 understanding. Thankfully the waiter for our new table was wonderful and took amazing care of us.
Good mexican food with a hipster vibe, be warned that tacos are a bit overpriced and portions are small and not made clear in the menu. The shrimp ceviche and flan were delicious as were the tacos, but again you're paying $4-8 for a single taco the size of small street tacos.
We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and we were told we needed to wait so we didn’t stress out the servers even though there were multiple empty tables. It was uncomfortably loud. Too loud to hold a conversation at a small table without raising your voice. We ordered margarita and quesadilla to start. Waited a long time, no chips and salsa, no quesadilla. The margarita finally arrived. It literally tasted like there was no real lime instead tasted like it was made from a powdered mix. Worst margarita, unpleasant server acted like she was doing us a favor. Terrible customer service, bad atmosphere, no acoustics, never tasted the food. We decided to leave after tasting the terrible margarita and not getting food or a smile. Poor choice for a birthday. They reported us to open table as a “no show” which I find incredibly rude and dishonest!
Probably should have known better than to try this place on a Saturday night, especially with a large private party booked in back. As with most "hip" places, the noise level was extreme even without music; one had to lean in across the table to converse and still sometimes repeat oneself. The fact that only two waiters seemed to be assigned to the front half of the packed restaurant did not help, although ours kept his cool and struggled nobly. The main problem was the the delivery of drinks (our first simple margaritas took 20 minutes and frankly not so special as to warrant the wait) and our order of tacos nearly 30 minutes, although other items arrived faster. Also the ladies bussing tables need more training. When we asked that our dirty plates be removed, it never occurred to us that we would have to try flag down another lady to beg for replacements. Nor to beg to keep ours while we still had food on the table and were still eating. Our table got messy from conveying sauced items from platters to plates to mouths but only once was any attempt made to wipe our table. On the positive side, apart from an odd version of al pastor, the food we ate was simply extraordinary. Unusual and especially tasty salsa accompanied the chips; the salsa kept us occupied trying to guess its composition. Rarely served fideo that brought back childhood memories even as it wildly surpassed them. Amazing octopus tostada, tender but not mushy, a mouthful of flavors. Ditto with the chapulines tostada -- a brave offering. Four different wonderful tacos -- each distinctively sauced and garnished. It is definitely the food that will bring us back here -- just on a weekday night when hopefully service and food delivery are more normal and conversation about and enjoyment of the dishes is easier.
The food brought me back home. That’s the best mexican food in the area!
The food was delicious and the service was attentive.
Good food. Tasty margaritas. A tiny bit pricey but the tacos are delicious and the drinks were well made. Great service!
The server was great and very attentive. Food was superb, my wife raved about the sweet potatoes (it had a sweet potatoes taste, but whipped almost like marsh mellows). A very enjoyable Valentine's dinner.
Had an outstanding meal. Food quality is top notch.
We felt like we were rushed by the service staff (not the waiter). Our food came out all together and ridiculously fast. Didn’t give us a chance to enjoy our drinks. Too much like fast food.
This was a return visit for me and it did not disappoint! The food was delicious. The drinks were tasty and the atmosphere was invigorating. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed by several tables being given to her at one time. And no fault of the restaurant, but a small child was being allowed to run around the tables bumping into servers and patrons - distracting.
I will definitely return.
We went to Urbano 116 for a Saturday girls get-together. Great food and drinks in a fun, lively atmosphere. Melissa was our wonderful server who made great recommendations. We will return many times for sure!
Great food! Great drinks! Great service! Great atmosphere!
Modern vibe, amazing Mexican menu. Loved chips and salsa, shared variety of tacos. Everything delicious. Great margaritas! No complaints and would definitely come back.
Top notch margaritas, guacamole and shrimp tacos!!
Very uneven and very loud (granted it was Saturday night, but still it was very hard to hear our dinner companions even at what likely was the quietest booth in the restaurant).
Drink order mix up handled very poorly. Second Navi ordered but was served what was clearly a regular marguerite. When questioned, the waitress reported that the manager had made it himself, so she was asked to go talk to him, and came back with a drink that was clearly the previous drink doctored up to resemble a Navi. Not acceptable on any level, customer service or drink!
Some of the food was good, particularly the kale salad and the smokey house salsa, but a lot of the rest of the food was okay, not great.
Will try other options before returning. Too Bad.
I have already recommended Urbano's food- it was fresh unique clean and delicious!! But my rec came with with the caveat to be prepared for really poor service.
We had a reservation, the host was attentive and we were seated quickly. Our waitress was pleasant, but always a step behind,-she seemed very young and wasn't motivated to making the meal happen. Am I spoiled?? So many restaurants in this area provide that, and it was disappointing to have to ask for things repeatedly. Felt like we had to manage getting what we wanted. In her defense, there were many bus people who cleared dishes quickly, but didn't seem to be capable of doing anything else. One took my tea glass when I asked for a refill, and I never saw it again. Our chips and salsa arrived after our first appetizer, and after we requested it twice. Our chip basket was taken to be refilled-but again we never saw it again, until asking to have it returned. We had 2 rounds of really good margaritas - took awhile to get the first round-but the bartenders were clearly working hard. The second round took even longer, and when we inquired about them my husbands was delivered, and mine was being made and would be delivered soon.
I'm so very rarely a negative critic. But the food at Urbano 116 was really good - worth a second trip and hoping a few others shed light on improving flow and patron experience.
Probably our favorite restaurant in Old Town! So glad to see it doing well because the food is fabulous. The ambiance is hip and NYC-worthy, but we take our three kids and feel completely comfortable. The smoky salsa (an insult to compare it to others) alone is the best I’ve ever had. Could eat it by the spoonful. There are a million restaurants in OT, but so many are just ok. Urbano is a gem.
Wow -- it sounded good on 'paper', but this place is really, really good. From the perfectly salted, thin crispy tortilla chips, the outstanding freshly made guacamole, the inventive dishes using fresh, vibrant familiar ingredients (try the slow-cooked ribs that fall off the bone) to the charming, attentive but not intrusive service, I LOVED Urbano 116. OH! And the house-made fresh corn tortillas!! Doesn't get better than this.
Thank you for participating in Alexandria Restaurant Week 2020 - we four had a terrific girls' lunch with premium cocktails and lots of conversation. Loved that we could hear each other, too. And did I mention easy and copious midday parking on King Street this close to the Potomac?
Food and drinks were very good- service felt rushed.
Prompt greeting. Fast and pleasant service. Great food that’s filling. Amazing HH prices.
Delicious menu and nice ambiance
The ambiance was really cool- the food was sub-par. I ordered enchiladas with red sauce and it came out with green sauce and the server acted like she didn’t know what I was saying- this happened to 2 of us. There almost 2hours but the server was only available To bring us 1 drink. So it was very slow between check ins
Muey delicioso! Very authentic Oaxacan. Absolutely excellent.
Food was fresh and delicious!! We will be back!! Service very friendly. Atmosphere is very nice and unique to old town.
Amazing tacos. Had the lengua, carne asada, lamb barbacoa and carnitas. The guacamole was great, but the salsa is to die for. The cocktails were very good. Had the spicy aguardiente cocktail that was really nice.
We love this place! Absolute gem.
Food is decent, atmosphere is fun, but service is pretty terrible. Silverware was cleared between courses, but new sets weren't dropped until the food had already been at the table. Appetizer sharing is awkward because they don't give you serving spoons. Entrees and drinks both took a long time to hit the table. Also... it's never a good look when you see the manager just hanging out at the host stand when the servers are slammed.
