Food was really good however our tab was $250K before tip and only 3 beers were purchased with party of 5.
Food was well prepared but it tasted a little like spices had been toned down. We weren't asked what spice level so I guess this is the target taste for the mild. Could also taste a hint of salt which seemed strange and perhaps a little more Western palate than Eastern. Good service and modern space.
Really good service however I felt the food was not of the best taste as much as it could’ve been. Perhaps that maybe because I am used to eating more spicer food and majority of the food was at best mid level spicy kn a scale of low to high. I enjoyed the pani puris the most however they shouldn’t give it with the inclusions inside it. I was unsatisfied with the entrees i had ordered. The mango kulfi in dessert is pretty good.
The waiters were really friendly and understanding. The ambience is great and despite the food, I had a good experience.
Urban Tandoor has delicious food in a nice restaurant, centrally located between Virginia Square and Ballston. The staff is very willing to accommodate special orders to adjust the level of spiciness in each dish, and this was helpful to our party of five. The dumplings, naan, and butter chicken were all absolutely delicious. We will gladly return to Urban Tandoor again soon!
We had only gone there for dinner and it was the first time we tried the buffet. There was a great selection and we certainly stuffed ourselves. The only suggestion is to make sure the dishes have different levels of spice. They were all pretty spicy which I do not mind but it would help to get a break with havin gless spicy dishes. Great place!
We had a great experience here! Excellent service, delicious food, and quiet, pleasant atmosphere. They really went above and beyond to meet my dietary needs, which I so appreciated. We will definitely be coming back!
Great restaurant, great service and absolutely some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten. I was in Washington D.C. this week for five days and made the trip to Arlington twice to eat at Urban Tandoor.
Food was delicious, staff friendly and helpful. I will defiantly dine here again
The food was fantastic. I would eat the onion kulcha everyday if I could. Service was great. They checked on us, but weren’t overbearing. I wish they offered sides of the veggies (like the chickpeas, lentils, etc). Or even a veggie combo platter would be great.
Very good food and excellent service and recommendations. Will be added to our neighborhood rotation, although not to top tier.
Great food and service. My friend from out of town was impressed as was I. Definitely a new favorite on our list!
Great food in a fun setting. A popular spot in the neighborhood. Service was very attentive. Our waitress was well informed about the food and was very well able to help us navigate a food allergy issue.
The food was
So good to see a local Indian restaurant thriving. I visited on a busy Saturday night and the place was definitely packed. The food was very good as usual and the service attentive, even though they were almost completely full and most people were seated by 6:30 so the kitchen must have been super busy. My only comment is that while I prefer my food mild and my guest prefers very spicy, the main dishes seemed to have been dialed down just a notch in terms of spiciness/taste. Even so, a delightful evening.
It was excellent. Get the Buffalo Momo!
Decent Indian food, nothing fancy. There are many tables but half of their customers order to go, so the place look kind of empty because of that
Food was fantastic. But portions seemed very small.
Delicious, authentic food with incredibly kind servers / staff. Lots of great veggie options and a few vegan options, too! My only recommendation would be for the restaurant to consider adding a dairy free / vegan dessert to the menu. I really enjoyed the food, and I will definitely be back!
DELICIOUS Indian food! This time we went for Valentine's dinner, but we usually go to their FABULOUS lunch buffet. If you love Indian food, you'll love Urban Tandoor!
Very acceptable option for Indian dining in Ballston. Portions on the small size especially desserts.
Had a great lunch buffet and great options, I wasn’t expecting to have fish and goat as an all you can eat lunch option. Definitely not the best Indian food I have had- but certainly a great option when craving some good home-cooked Indian food. Was disappointed in the ambiance- certainly did not feel like I was in an Indian restaurant.
Lunch buffet was excellent and a really good price!
We reached at 1:30pm and most of the item was empty and when i told the guy that there is no tandoori and asked him if he can get some. The guy mentioned he will let me know when they refill. I never got it but the reason i went was for tandoori and momo’s if you cant make those on weekend then its a shame to open this type of restaurant. And with your receipt they add automatically 18% gratuity. Good hevens i will never come to this place again!
PS: Its a pay parking to come and eat such worse tasteless food with full of salty. Looks like a worse nepali chef! I don’t want to give even one star!
The main dishes took a while to come out but all the food was amazing! Also they sat us near the door and when people came in we got hit with cold air. Once they closed the inner door it was better.
The lunch buffet had only two items for vegans and three for vegetarians. All were salty and tasteless. Tasted not fresh either.
Good vibe and decor, much better ambiance vs. typical hole in wall Indian places in Arlington VA area. Good food quality and portions but price a little steep. Still overall a good experience I’ll be back
We have been to Urban Tandoor five times since it opened. It has become our "go to" place when we have out of town guests. The staff is very friendly. The menu includes a number of dishes not normally found at other Indian restaurants. The mo mos are a must order item.
We've been a few times and had great food but this time the food was very bland and just a different experience. Maybe the kitchen staff changed? Even the color of one of the dishes was wrong. Being Indian, I found this place good overall until this night. The tamarind margarita is excellent though and we still had fun.
I havn't ordered much food so I am writing my reviews based on the dished which I had ordered. Starting with momos(veg) which was good along the sides. Samosa (veg) was ok, it was hard from outside. Main courses included paneer tikka masala and bhindi fry. Bindi fry was good and paneer tikka masala (Make it spicy) includes more of red chillies taste.
Serving was good and quick and even the ambiance is scenic. I might try the non veg dishes next time and see. Well over all great place with good food options.
We have our favorite Indian restaurant and have tried others we find acceptable. This was our first visit to Indian Tandoor. The food was good and the menu interesting. The ambience was good; we especially liked that the tables were not cramped as they are in many places around here. The one drawback was the service, which was polite but amateurish. After assuring us they knew how to make a Manhattan, they brought us something quite different. We got a replacement but they did not come back to ask if it was OK (we mentioned it when presented with an opportunity). They were not particularly busy, but we could have used a little more attention (generally we prefer unobtrusiveness, but this was hardly the case here).
Server did not let us finish first course before dumping main dishes on table. They did not have desserts on the menu and malai kofta was not that good
Good food and friendly service.
Both my GF and I had upset stomachs. We also had both a headace for a long time afterwards. The only thin that we can link this to was the food. It was tasty but it certainly had something in it that was not good.
forgot to confirm my reservation after dinner.
I want my points
I loved the momos, don't get me wrong and my dark and stormy too, but if you serve me chicken tikka masala with butter chicken sauce/curry, I am not a happy person.
A favorite for lunch.
Good. Muzak was unnecessarily loud.
While I would say generally that the overall experience was quite good and the staff were friendly and efficient, I could have wished for a bit more South Asian influence in the food. Here I’m talking about spices, marinade and the flavor they provide. I have a slight suspicion that the place might be “dumbing” things down a bit to cater for a perceived lack of tolerance in the American palate. If that is the case, I don’t think they should worry. Americans, especially those who seek out a restaurant like this, are likely to accept the range of flavors and spiciness that South Asian food offers. So, my advice to Urban Tandoor is, crank it up.
Urban Tandoor is the best food Arlington has to offer. We love it here. We would come back every day if we could.
The vegetarian momos are a must try! Our entrees we excellent, and of these the butter chicken was the most pleasant surprise. The garlic naan was was delicate and flavorful without being overwhelming. The chai was perfect and the rice pudding, with hints of coconut was a lovely way to round out our experience. Love this restaurant.
