this was our second visit and just as with the first, everything was exquisite (really). the portions are just right, the pacing, plating, in-between-course treats; just wonderful. we had the three-course prix fix (last time my wife had the five course) with wine pairings and a cocktail. the venue is intimate, without feeling squished, and the service is wonderful in every way as well.
Great combination of daring chef, precise flavors and talent. We loved the unique and delicate spice combination with every dish. The fact that nothing was too sophisticated yet I couldn’t do it at home. It just made me want to cherish the flavors in my mouth. How delightful!
Very creative. Small place where you can watch the owner prepare the best meal you will have in Boston.
One of the most outstanding meals we have had in a very long time. We sat the chef's counter and enjoyed watching the dance between the chefs to produce impeccably prepared plates in a tiny space. Our meals were amazing, we ordered different items, and while we enjoyed some things more than others, there were no missteps. The wine pairings were well thought out and interesting. The service was delightful and personal. Everyone clearly loves what they are doing ... thank you for the lovely experience.
What a delightful surprise to find such a lovely restaurant north of Porter Square! Every dish was a pleasure and their willingness to find just the right wine to match each course was exemplary.
Urban Hearth is a very small restaurant that makes a truly big impression. It's perfect for date nights, celebrations and family gatherings. It's an intimate place: there are about 5 or 6 tables, one long farm table and a small bar that about 5 stools. We have had many enjoyable meals here as a couple and with friends. We've had the prix fixe dinner with wine pairings and have also recently been to several of their 'Wine Bar Sundays' -- I highly recommend both. The atmosphere is cozy due to its size and open kitchen but upscale with white table linens and phenomenal service. They KNOW THEIR WINES -- enjoying new wines at this restaurant is one of our favorite parts of going to Urban Hearth. Their food is seasonal and the flavors, herbs and spices are unique and special. You won't get heaps of food on your plates and that's fine because each dish is just right. There are always excellent vegetarian options. They now host Wine Sundays in the evenings, with a pared down menu and we love it.
We love high quality farm-to-table type food, but husband hates what he thinks of as hoity-toity atmosphere at many finer restaurants. Thank goodness he LOVES Urban Hearth and wants to go back soon. A small humble storefront outside of Porter Square, but inside is a wonderful fine restaurant in a comfortable casual atmosphere. The fine staff could not be more warm and inviting. And accommodating with flexibility to mood and tastes of diners. The food is prepared with the greatest care. We love sitting at the bar for a front row seat to the food preparations (dinner and a show!)
We ordered one 3-course and one 5-course to give us a chance to try lots of things. The courses are not small, but moderate in size, a little more than tapas, and every one delicious. No room to go into descriptions of the delicacies we enjoyed, because every bite deserves a paragraph of praise. You cannot go wrong with anything on that menu. If you have a light appetite, go for the 3-course, but the 5-course would not overwhelm a hearty eater.
Our host was very flexible in response to our tastes and interests. I wanted a single glass of wine, and she recommended a choice between two. Went the next step and brought two glasses to taste and compare. When I had a hard time deciding, she suggested two half glasses so I could enjoy each along with the various courses -- the heartier wine with the lamb, lighter with the fish. She really makes their offerings work for your tastes.
We will be back soon!
We've been here many times. The beauty of the plates always fascinates me. We took the booth closest to the kitchen so we were able to watch the plating. A true treat to see how much work goes into making each plate perfect.
The food and service are superior. Having eaten there multiple times, we have not been disappointed. I don’t think that I have eaten the same meal twice. Very tasty!
The innovative and limited menu, preparation and attention to plating are the stars. We ordered a few things a bit dubiously as the ingredients list seems somewhat busy. The flavors were great and because of the size of our group we had a chance to really taste a good representation of the whole menu.
The space is small and needs more professional attention to both seating and decor to bring it up to within the high price point of the meal.
The food and service were wonderful! It’s a very special, small restaurant, and we will definitely go back. The only down side was a very noisy, large group in the restaurant having a holiday celebration.
Charming neighborhood restaurant with great service. Sophisticated wine list. Hit (sweet potato biscuits, pear with smoked cheese) or miss (lamb rump was too tough and salty, scallops slightly overcooked). $/Quality ratio - perhaps slightly overpriced. This place has a nice potential.
My girlfriend and I had an absolutely incredible experience. We had the 3-course prix fixe, and each course was delicious, creative, unique, and beautifully plated. The mini-courses in between each dish were tasty too—make sure to come hungry! The service was exquisite, and they personalized my girlfriend's dishes to be compatible with her dairy allergy. The restaurant has an intimate, homey setting that's perfect for special occasions. It was one of the best meals I've ever had!
We were warmly greeted on a cold, windy evening and ushered to our table. All the waitstaff were extremely attentive, explained the menu, and answered all our questions. The food was terrific and we were pleasantly surprised by a few items presented in between courses. All-in-all a great dining experience! We will certainly return and can heartily endorse Urban Hearth to others!!
Urban Hearth is a neighbor gem. The restaurant was warm & inviting, and the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. The menu offered a unique assortment of veggie and meat based options. All of the dishes were beautifully presented - and they tasted just as amazing as they looked!
We enjoyed our dining experience & will certainly return!
Consistently great food, and if you like to converse while eating with friends, the intimate setting is a break from the wild and crazy atmosphere of so many restaurants these days. This place is a favorite for us, and it never disappoints.
We had a fun evening with friends at Urban Hearth, celebrating a milestone birthday with great friends and with great food and wine pairings. Many thanks to Chef for the wonderful preparation and for accommodating food allergies. The setting is cozy, which was part of Urban Hearth's appeal to us. However, we seemed to be a large group (7) for the space, and the restaurant was dealing with some scheduling issues, as we were seated 90 minutes(!) after our 8 pm reservation. The manager was very apologetic for the delay and provided appetizers and a round of drinks as we waited at the bar area. I would consider returning for lunch or for dinner as a couple, but will hesitate to return with a large group (6 or more) unless it is for the first seating of the evening.
Life is a journey of experiences to be lived fully, and Urban Hearth is definitely at the cross path of this wonderful journey of senses.
From the very intimate atmosphere to the fireworks of gustative savory, one can only leave the table only looking forward for the next rendez-vous.
Thank you for selecting the best seasonal products and to prepare a menu that brings flavors to the pleasure of culinary exploration.
Bravo to the Urban Hearth team and see you soon :-)
From a French gourmet epicurean!
Awesome food, totally fit for foodies. It’s a tiny place with only a handful of tables so you definitely need a reservation. Try to go when it is not peak meal time because the size of the place really limits the service. When every seat is full, there’s no way that they can keep up.
Fantastic dining experience, with an extremely gracious and hospitable wait staff and sublime food and wine list. The ambiance is intimate and appealing. Can't wait to go back!
Perfect from A-Z. Everything paired wonderfully in ways we never would have imagined. Trust in Erin.
Fantastic ingredients and service. Can't wait to try the brunch
So delightful. Dining room feels like your in someone’s home. Watch your food being cooked and served right in front of you. Everything was deliciously experimental. Simple straightforward ingredients prepped with just enough of a twist to make it an adventure! Really loved this place and everyone in it! We did the 5 course prix fix with flights. YUM
Excellent food and service. Urban Hearth is perfect for a special occasion! We enjoyed the ambiance, warm service, and delicious food and drinks at a recent dinner. I'm looking forward to trying brunch soon!
I loved everything about this experience. The food, service, and ambiance. I loved it so much I booked it out for a team meal!
Every aspect was EXCELLENT!!!
Absolutely decisions food, fun vibes, and excellent mixed drinks! Would absolutely go again.
This was just a beautiful meal. The place is quite small and special in terms of the attentiveness of chefs and wait staff. It wasn’t particularly busy so the noise level was perfect. An intimate and genuine experience with people who truly loved the work they were doing. Eager to take other food loving friends.
Best meal in Boston. Period. Go for the wine pairing. Excellent and fun!
Wonderful place for a special occasion. The Chef was fabulous, next time we'll sit at the bar!
Splendid food presented with love from fresh locally sourced food. Combinations novel and unexpected but avoid feeling forced or trendy. Prix-fixe is the way to go. Looking forward to more great things from Erin (and Paul)!
Enjoyable setting, delicious food, friendly service, and well-paced delivery of courses. My wife and I each got the 5-course meal, and it's PLENTY of food, arguably too much once you include the various inter-course amuses (which were still appreciated). We ordered literally the entire menu between us, and shared each dish. Standouts included a peekytoe crab appetizer, a plate of perfectly-roasted vegetables with three sauces, and a corn husk meringue. Cocktails were fine but not spectacular; I'd advise sticking with wine.
This is a lovely little restaurant with exquisite food offerings, set off the beaten path in North Cambridge. The prices fairly reflect the gourmet food. You are not in Harvard Square, Davis Square, or Union Square, but on Mass. Ave in North Cambridge—then again, this area might be up and coming!
The ambiance/interior space could definitely benefit from some brightening, but owners/waitstaff are all very pleasant and knowledgeable, and more than make up for the lack of other diversions. All and all a thumb's up.
Absolutely superb meal! Compared to Giulia, Season to Taste, and even the Tasting Counter where I ate the same weekend Urban Hearth is an amazing restaurant. The food is superb, staff exceptional, cost very reasonable.
Super nice waitress and chef. Dessert is highlight of the courses. We had a wonderful time there.
What an amazing meal - I can’t say enough good things about this place! We had the three course prix-fix, which also came with a delicious fava bean dip and crudités to start and a small cheese course between our main and dessert. Everything we had was delicious - inventive flavor pairings, fresh ingredients, and beautiful presentation. I didn’t really know what to expect but I was blown away. For appetizers we had the smoked trout and fresh cut pasta, for mains we had the porgy and the quail, and for dessert we had the pistachio semifreddo and the chocolate lava cake. So good! Can’t wait to go back. Unrelated to the food, but the whole block has an adorable row of interesting independent, local stores. Great for picking up gifts.
This place is a remarkable gem. Always an innovative use of fresh local flavors. Cozy and friendly, too
Wonderful food, surprising touches, excellent pace of service.
This is a 5* restaurant. The food is creative and delicious with texture, flavor and combinations prepared with meticulous care for a gourmet delight.
Very creative and wonderful service. It’s a start-up in North Cambridge that will migrate towards the Charles some day soon - go now when you can say you saw then when...
