Urban Farmer is perfect for a relaxing dinner. We went on a Monday night and met our son's college roommate's parents. Dinner is served at a leisurely pace which gave us plenty of time to get to know them.

One person in our group has celiac disease. All the steaks are GF and most of the other items were (or could easily be). The chef customized another dish to remove shellfish butter.

Everyone loved their entrees (2 steaks & 2 fish) and sides.

One of our favorite places to go in Portland is Urban Farmer, located by the lobby of the Nines Hotel in downtown Portland. Great breakfasts, particularly their eggs benedict on freshly made and tasty English muffins.

Our only complaint is that they did not sign us in correctly from Open Table for the visit, requiring additional work to respond to Open Table letting them know we were not a no-show as well as having to talk to the staff at the restaurant.

Our meal wasn't as delicious as last time but I still recommend Urban Farmer for a locally sourced dinner that was fresh and seasonal.

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of dinner. Our service was exceptional and our server was well educated on the selection & nuances of their menu. The heirloom tomato salad was so refreshing and the 7X Wagyu ribeye we enjoyed with puréed potatoes and summer corn was so delicious.

The ambiance was perfect, noise level not too loud - we had a large group and could easily talk to people further down the table. The service was professional but was a bit slow so only 3 stars for service this time. Food was delicious but a bit over priced.

We ordered the filet of beef which was nice, the potato pie which was excellent, and the wild mushrooms which were freshly forged but very gamey tasting. The waitress was busy but tried to do her best on waiting on us. Our food was served without the requested sauce for the meat but they eventually got it to us when we were more than halfway done with the entree. Very disappointed that they didn't have my favorite sauce to pair with the filet (bearnaise) but maybe this post will inspire them to add it as an option.

Delicious food, friendly and knowledgeable staff, lovely setting. Very expensive and would only go again for a very special occasion. Bill was over $400 for 4 of us with tip. We had 4-5 cheeses from the cheese cart, 2 of us ordered salmon (very good) and 2 ordered steak (also very good). Sides are extra.

My expectations going to this restaurant was high. The service was great, my cocktail was unique and very nice but I was disappointed by my meal. I ordered the 14oz ribeye and for an aged prime cut of beef, I expect the marbling to deliver a tender mouthwatering medley of greatness with every bite. There was a lot more fat than marbling in this steak and I probably had to trim off 4+ oz of fat. The steak was tough to cut at times and with each bite I had to cross my fingers that the next bite would be tender. Sadly at $52 for this steak I felt cheated. I had 2 sides with my entree. The mac and cheese was good and the grits which I was super excited about despite the cheese and poached egg was boring and bland. I don't even know how that could be possible. The atmosphere at this restaurant is very cool located inside of the hotel atrium lobby on the 8th floor. Service was spot on and very professional.

I did a lot of research for a steakhouse in downtown Portland before I commited and unfortunately I didn't have the best experience this time.

This is my 3rd time here, but also the worst by far. The previous two visits were excellent, and the food and service were very good and appropriate for the price point. This time, even though they were not full (8:15 PM reservation) the service was extremely slow, the waitress never even bothered to come back to check, or give an update. She seemed quite disengaged and maybe was having a bad day so we'll give her the benefit of the doubt.
Unfortunately the Salmon dish I ate was mediocre at best although the steak my colleague had was apparently good. They gave us drinks on the house when I complained, but I'm unlikely to go back anytime soon.

Very cool, laid back place with very good cuisine. Steak for lunch a bit small - but just meant I wouldn't fall asleep afterwards. Deviled eggs a must. Very gracious - ran extremely late (flight delays) but they were accommodating. Thanks, hope to be back soon.

I've stayed at The Nines three times in the late three months and usually head to tge Asian restaurant on the roof for meals but decided to switch it up and try this one on the 8th floor instead. It was a delicious meal and the service was great! I had the newly added heirloom tomato salad and added salmon. It was a perfectly balanced flavor of olive oil, rock salt, basil, a d vinegar that paired quite well with the grilled fresh caught salmon and the mozzarella Croat in a was a fitting partner.

Though my husband and son enjoyed their meals, I was thoroughly disappointed. I ordered the pork chop - pecans, hop honey, apricot. When it arrived, I found it to be quite spicy. I have a sensitivity to certain spices, but did not ask about this because there was no indication on the menu that it would be an issue. I ended up sending it back, and ordering the chicken. I found the chicken to be very bland. I ate about a third of it. I dislike wasting food, but didn't even take the rest with me. I figured that if I disliked the food so much in the restaurant, I couldn't bear to eat it reheated later.

I will say that the staff were accommodating, and sincerely made an effort to make by visit satisfying. However, the food that I ordered just wasn't worth the expensive and effort of the visit.

I was recommended Urban Farmer by a coworker. I went this past weekend to celebrate a promotion I received from work. All in all, I was severely disappointed in the food. For someone who was born and raised in Texas, I take my meat very seriously. I got a 24oz bone-in ribeye, cooked medium-rare. I was sadden when I took my first bite that it was merely mediocre. The taste was completely lacking and nothing to write home about. At first I mistook my medium-rare steak for medium-well... not a good sign. My boyfriend got the New York strip cooked medium, and it was chewy and bland. I was ultimately sadden that I had wasted a nice dinner on something I didn't enjoy. We got two sides: mashed potatoes (severely needed salt), wild mushrooms (delicious). What I remember is that my favorite thing from the dinner was the mushroom dish (at a steak restaurant). I will not be back... and now see why yelp reviewed this restaurant the way it did.

The server knew the menu and the farms where food was grown very well. The cheese gal was friendly and knowledgeable and was fun to pick our own cheese selections from the cart. The steaks were cooked exactly as asked and there was PLENTY of food. Sharing the sides for 2 to 4 people per side is plenty of food. I can't wait to go back. The ambiance is great. The finishes are beautiful

I wish we had gone to Ringside instead.

I made a reservation at Urban Farmer for my partner's 35th birthday. He wanted a steak, and reviews told me this was a good place to get one. I thought it would be nice to try something new. Last time we went out for steak we went to Ringside on west Burnside, and even though that was great, I thought this place might be just as good. I was so wrong.

I don't know how I missed that Urban Farmer is in the Nines. That's on me. But I think if I had known I would have skipped it. I don't generally dine at hotels unless I'm staying in one and it's absolutely necessary. When we got there, they seated us in a quaint little corner surrounded by empty tables - nice and romantic! Until 5 minutes later a family of four was seated immediately next to us, with two small children. I asked to be moved. Better seating on the second try but I'm annoyed this didn't seem to occur to them.

My partner had a steak which was fine, but not at all the caliber we expected from a "steak place". Not worth the price. I got the scallops, which were disappointing. I don't normally order scallops, because I only like them when they are done well, and the 3 I received for $32 were not worth it at all. Almost chewy. The spinach side was bland; it seems like someone just threw a pile of spinach in with a quart of cream and some butter. Not very creative.

My partner didn't like his drink but we felt like we had already made such a fuss that we didn't mention it. They forgot his mushrooms (which the server comped) so by the time he got them his steak was almost cold. The only redeeming quality was the servers. They were all kind and seemed fairly well-informed.

Overall, very disappointing experience. I will never go back.

Great waiter, very attentive. Two of the three entrees were great. However the steak and frites was a pathetically small portion. Four small slices of meat. For $19! Very disappointing. It was really an appetizer sized portion at best. I wound up giving a 1/4 of my sandwich to my husband so he would have something to eat....

My dad was in town and wanted something very Portland. And urban farmer is all about that. The service was great, Meredith was amazing. Most of the food was incredibly delicious. However I was pretty disappointed in the temperature quality of the steaks. My dad and I shared the little trio of 6 oz steaks and opted to get the wagyuu. We ordered them all medium rare and when I went to split the steaks in half, they are had varied finishes. In order from the leaf I believe it was corn fed, grass fed, 21 day, wagyuu. Corn fed was medium well, no pink whatsoever, grass fed was medium was just a touch of pink in the small center, 21 day was perfect at medium rare, but the wagyuu was incredibly rare, it seemed as though it was browned and then served. About half a centimeter of brown and the remainder blood red. I tried to get the attention of one of the wait staff, (a male and possibly manager as he was going around to tables),about the cook of the wagyuu in particular since you can just cook it a little longer but he insisted that that was medium rare for wagyuu and it simply looks different...especially when it was compared to the other 3 cuts of meat it was very clear how undermine this was. But we just made do and ate it. It was okay...just left a sour taste in our mouth as I did enjoy the rest of our stay.
