Urban Farmer Portland Ratings and Reviews
My daughter and I went for my birthday dinner, we were looking for a nice steak house experience. The staff and ambiance were as expected, a nice experience. I was very disappointed with the whole meal from appetizer to dessert. We were early for our reservation so sat in the bar, ordered a drink and the spiced nuts. Drinks were nice, nuts very bland. When we were seated we ordered the Prime Beef Tartare as appetizer, it was bland and flavorless. We ordered the New York Steak Tasting with the 7X Wagyu Beef which is 4 different 6oz steaks. Presentation was lack luster, served on a warm plate. The steaks were all supposed to be medium rare. They lacked consistency , one was rare, two were medium rare and the other medium. Each had it's own very distinct flavor, which was nice for the tasting. However, not worth the $100+ for the Steak Tasting. We ordered the Creamed Spinach Gratin for our side, it was runny and flavorless. For Birthday dessert we ordered the Molten Chocolate Cake. Again, very disappointing. The cake came dry, crumbly and not very molten. So all in all, for the amount that we spent on dinner. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant. I have had much better meals in this price range.
I love the atmosphere of this restrauant so much and had amazing food the first time I went that I wanted to take my husband there for his birthday. Absolutely everyone that worked there seemed at the very least miserable if not down right rude and really ruined our experience. I can’t believe I paid to valet my car, get charged more than the menu advertises and spoken to the way the bartender spoke to us!
We ordered off menu for some of our party and had lots of allergy questions for others in our party. They skillfully met every request and provided great suggestions of things/directions we hadn’t even thought about. For those of us who ordered from the menu, we were delighted with pairings, presentation and palette. Every note was executed beautifully. Gordon Ramsay would weep tears of joy over their scallops and risotto. Definitely going back. Worth every penny.
For the high prices and what we expected to be a high level of service there were some notable issues. No one offered to take our coats (winter time) but we noted others had their coats taken. We were seated in a large room where we were the only party. It was about 40 minutes before anyone else was seated in the room. On our way to this room we passed several nice 2-person tables in nice areas with good mix of people. After our main course, our table was not cleaned (wiped down) after dishes were removed. It needed that attention. We were approached by at least two other person, other than our server, who asked how our food was - this was before we had a chance to have a bite of our food. It was a bit obnoxious, as if they were trying too hard, but in all the wrong ways. We left feeling like this place didn't have a good idea of what really good service is. We would not go back, not at these prices. Respectfully.
Pretty basic. Definitely a good deal if you want to enjoy a big 20oz Wagyu steak. It’s defin big enough to share. The rolls with black garlic butter are great. Loved the sweet potato that came with my duck- however did not enjoy their duck breast. Too rare for my liking and not very tender or tasty. I regret not sharing the wagyu with my husband or even just enjoying all the sides as a meal.
We went here for a date. The food is excellent, but pricey. The cornbread was AWESOME, I would go there again just for that. Steak was cooked perfect and seasoning was mild. I had the yukon gold puree(creamy mashed potatoes) and it tasted really good, but concurrency was odd, just do mashed potatoes.......geesh.
This turned out to unexpectedly fall below our expectations. This is a beautifully designed restaurant with so much possibility, but it was our most disappointing OpenTable dining experience. Staff really needs to be trained better. Perhaps it was because it was Christmas Dinner and the restaurant was busy, but this fell short on so many levels from bland food: The shrimp in the appetizer arrived pleasantly placed and adorned upon arrival it may have been previously frozen. It lacked the sweet delicate flavor of a well-prepared shrimp dish: it was very bland. The salmon dished with baby carrots arrived dressed to entice one’s appetite, it too was miserably bland. Had it not been for the fillet surrendered by my partner, I would have not eaten anything with any flavor. It was a dismal Christmas dinner. But it was more than the disappointment in the food, after being graciously taken to our table we were surprised to see that instead of the table requested we, a party of two, were seated on a enormous table for six people across of each other. Servers had us seated so far apart that it would have been impossible to carry on a decent conversation. There really wasn’t any way to adjust our seats so that we wouldn’t be interfering the guests besides us so we ended up seating almost on each other’s laps. It was a choice between hearing one another or not. We had the saddest table in the dining area. Two guests lost in this white table cloth sea with a candle that died out shortly after we sat down and unlike all the other tables that had flowers on them, we had none. It was truly the worst OpenTable dining experience that we have ever encountered. There’s nothing like being made to feel unwelcome than to shove guests with reservations in an awkward corner on an poorly sized table with table settings not conducive to comfortable dining. It is better not to have accepted our reservations than to take them and not be prepared to treat your guest properly.
We have dined many times here and usually it’s a great meal/ experience. This time not so much as the Service was lacking. Our server was quick and friendly, but after the meal was served, we never saw him again to check on how we were doing.
While my salmon dish was good, warm, not hot, I prefer Hot...my wife’s Pork was as dry as leather and the accompanying pasta was like paper.
When the Floor Manager asked? I let him know.
This is where the experience went beyond expectation. We were comped my wife’s meal and my Whisky, a MaCallan 18yr. That was well beyond Excellent Customer Service. That’s more than either of us expected!
Will we go back? Probably...
Fantastic, magnificent food! The Chef is a Chef.
I am French and I know what I am talking about. Everything is so fresh, so well cooked, so well combined, thought and blended. Next time we come back, we will be there again. I will try to copy the butter squash soup as I noted the mushrooms blend which was divine. It is certainly one of the best in town.
Holiday menu was a bit overpriced for what was served, we missed being able to order off the traditional menu. It also meant spending literally hundreds more as a table of 6, we usually like to share a large steak sampler. Service was outstanding as was the food.
Service was very poor, server only came to our table 2-3 times and when the bill arrived, we found that $150 drinks from the table next door were charged to us. Very embarrassing for me as my group was out of town business colleagues and their first trip to Portland!
Our service was spotty. Ordered an appetizer and drinks right away, one drink came out and then the appetizer came out and finally the second tap beer came out... It's okay to change a keg but offer another beer as a filler. Wait staff was very nice, just the hiccup with the keg and the long time for the check, but I'd rather wait a little while for the check than be ushered out the door, i normally wouldn't be annoyed by that if it wasn't for the long period of waiting for a tap beer. Steak was GREAT, Salmon was GREAT, wait staff was very nice, not sure if I cared for the ambiance. Will I return to this place.... Maybe once a year for a great steak...
Well.....we always come to urban farmer for dinner when in Portland.
Our last two experiences have lacked in steak quality, temperature and flavor.
Service has gone from excellent to just OK.
To be fair we had a very large group to service so timing was off.
Communication by staff regarding delays would be recommended.
We would suggest the breakfast here as the staff is better and the food is outstanding.
This restaurant, located in the Nines Hotel in downtown Portland, is primarily a steakhouse. It offers a number of different steak cuts and most cuts come from either grass or corn raised cattle. There are other offerings on the menu, but this really is a beef driven menu. We ordered steak (new York) corn raised. It was delicious. The sides, fries and vegetables ordered ala carte were also good. All came hot to the table. Service was very good. The biggest drawback is this restaurant sits in the atrium of the hotel surrounded on four sides by hotel rooms that can look down into the dining area. It really is a disappointing ambiance given the service and food. Be prepared for high prices. Although the quality of the food is very good we have been to steak houses that are as good for quite a bit less money. Given the location (atrium of the hotel) I really think the cost could come down a bit.
Steak was fantastic, and I recommended doing the tasting menu of all four NY strip offering. Notable wine list, I ordered the Opus One 2012. Note that the wines are all kept cold at this location, so give it a chance to decant before indulging. Plenty of seating, and plenty of bar space. 5/5 overall.
The food was excellent but the service was awful. It took over 30 minutes for our drinks after we sat, and over an hr for the first course. It was 3 people, all knew what we wanted, and start to finish, took 2 hrs. We wanted to turn the table as it was a Saturday but no one seemed in a hurry. Afterwards we went out to the lounge to have a post dinner night cap again to get out of the table and after waiting 30 minutes, got up and went elsewhere. For the price of this place, the food was worth it but not for that kind of service.
