I have talked many people into dining at this restaurant because I was a regular there and loved the food. I was very excited to take my fiancé there for the first time. What a let down! For the first time in 3 years the food was terrible. We ordered the half chicken and the duck breast and neither was cooked fully or flavored at all. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants and now I’m not so sure I will ever go back.

All of our selections were prepared perfectly and presented at the right time. We’ve dined here multiple times before and will continue to come back. Cant beat an excellent steak and great wine selection! Not to mention the desserts are exceptional!

To be honest , the foods wasn’t that good. I ordered the steak tasting, but the taste was very salty. I also had some Scallop, and there were also salty too. The side dish mushrooms was uneateble. I hope you guys can make changes.

Waited a long time for our food then they got one of our dishes completely wrong. We got an apology and waited close to 10 more min. (Everyone else at the table was almost done with their meals) for the correct meal to come out. No offers to “make it right” for us, just another apology. Also, refills on coffee was pretty slow. Food quality was good and, at least, our server was very nice.

Not a good experience. Server was inattentive and snarky. Also, ordered the New York Steak sampler med-rare. Came out and was clearly rare (blue and cold in the center) when we cut into it. Instead of bringing new, correctly cooked steaks, they just put the ones we already cut into back on to cook, which severely degrades the quality of the product.

Disappointing. The place is really nice and inviting. The service was excellent. The food did not match either. We (party of 3) had steaks that were far too fatty (inside and outside) and not really tasty. The food was not bad enough to return to the kitchen, but not good enough to enjoy. Not good for a restaurant that prides itself on the quality of their meat..

We booked a table because we had heard that they took every step of the process very seriously. They do. Besides doing their best to procure from area farms, fisheries, ranches, and vineyards (which is, admittedly, easier to do in cities like Portland/Tacoma/Seattle/Bellingham, etc.), they produce a good many of their elements in-house, using both rooftop gardens and hydroponic facilities in their cellars. In terms of beef and pork, they procure whole animals and put their TWO in-house butchers to work, using every bit of the animal (even their tabletop candles are beef tallow). They dry age beef in-house with extraordinary success. They have the most amazing and well staffed kitchens, cellars, prep areas of any I've seen (we were blessed with a full tour). Without question, this is a gem. Every plate—octopus appetizer, salads, sides, our halibut entrée and our rib eye entrée was both elegant and impeccably prepared and presented.

My husband and I were visiting Portland for the first and we booked a table at Urban Farmer. When we were first seated we did not care for our table and we asked if something a little quieter and cozier were available. They very graciously sat us someplace else in no time at all. In fact, all of the staff were beyond lovely and attentive. The food was excellent. We started with the local greens and roasted beets as our starters, and shared. They were delicious. For our main courses, I had the Piedmontese Tenderloin and my husband, the Brandt Flatiron. Both were cooked to perfection and beyond tender and tasty. We added the Brussels Sprouts and Forage Mushrooms to complete the course and shared the Peach Melba Souffle for dessert. In short, we enjoyed every morsel of this meal, start to finish, and had a wonderful evening. Highly recommend this as a must-do for dining in Portland.

The service and vibe was poor. We had friends visiting and were wanting to try something new. We met early for a drink and the service at the bar was slow but friendly. The service at our table, however, was awful. Very slow, inattentive, and condescending especially to the women in the group. The steaks were good, but not great.

The steak was delicious, literally melted in your mouth. However, the foraged mushrooms sounded much more interesting than they actually were. They were fairly bland and dry.

I was there between 5-6pm on a week night and it was virtually empty except for a few folks at the high tops. It is in the interior courtyard of a building that looks interesting from the outside. But the courtyard interior lacked character. it looked like the inside of any large generic hotel.

Family came in from out of town and asked we go to a great steak place. I have been to Urban Farmer several times and they never disappoint! The waiter was very cordial and patient with us while we spent more time talking and catching up than deciding on our order. When we couldn’t decide between several different great steak choices, the waiter offered several tips and advice on how to pick the right steak for our choices. My cousin wanted a tender steak but didn’t want any pink. The waiter made sure to let us know the grass fed steaks generally have a low fat content and can become tough when well done. She settled on the 12 oz Brandt Flatiron and loved it. They also hit it out of the park with the Peach Melba soufflé and the Campfire Sundae!

Had a great business dinner at Urban Farmer while in Portland for work. The restaurant is located on the 8th floor in the Nines Hotel which isn't very clear when looking it up. They could stand to add some signage on the ground level, outside or even when you exit the elevator on 8. That being said our service was excellent. We started with 3 of each of the Atlantic and Pacific oysters. Being from Massachusetts I was happy to hear the Atlantic were from the Cape but I will admit the PNW were better. Followed that with the Brandt Flatiron Steak and the Duck Breast and would have to say, while the steak was delicious, we actually both enjoyed the duck a little more. It was cooked perfectly and paired with an amazing layered sweet potato and parsnip gratin. They have an extensive wine list and the ambiance is great. The restaurant is located in the interior courtyard open the the roof level skylight.

The ambience and service are really good. We found the steaks to be lacking in flavor though. When you're paying a good amount of money for a steak you expect good flavor. One of our four entrees was flavorful, the others were a bit bland. My wife's tenderloin was overcooked as well. The side dishes were very good. Not sure if we'd go back when we're in the area.

Though the staff were attentive, the service was very slow. There were no main dish Vegetarian options Though there were some good vegetarian side dishes. The food was very tasty but we had to take it to go since it took so long to prepare and we had a lecture to attend. We were assured time would not be a problem when we told them that we had a time line. Though the ambience was lovely, it was not at all farm-like. It is, indeed, a steakhouse!

My salad, the heirloom tomato, was truly one of the best I have ever eaten. The mix of unique tomatoes, tangy dressing and crunchy nuts was perfect. The service was impeccable, and we enjoyed a wonderful glass of Oregon merlot. And because Urban Farmer is located inside The Nines, the ambiance was artistic and elegant, warmly casual. An overall exceptional dining experience.

We ordered 3 sides and the steak sampler. The sides were great. Our drinks were fabulous. The three 6oz steaks were incredibly undercooked. We ordered medium and each of them were completely rare. We asked our server to re-fire them which she happily did. Two minutes later when we got them back, they were obviously just thrown in the broiler, completely charred on the outside, and slightly more cooked on the inside. Still very rare. She asked if we wanted to send them back again but we decided against it. Meat is kind of their whole thing so it was a really disappointing issue to have to deal with on our anniversary. I was shocked that they would be brought out not once but twice completely wrong. A very expensive bummer.

Waiter never returned after food arrived to check how everything was for us. My entree was not prepared to my liking but never got a chance to have it taken back to cook it properly. Came only after we had eaten all the other food. The creamed spinach desperately needed salt, but there were no S&P shakers on our table. Plus no waiter to ask for some. Wine I wanted to order had run “out” for the evening. (It was 6:30pm). The waiter did ask if we’d like something else, but evening was spoiled and we wanted to leave. Sorry, but our experience was very disappointing. Probably will NOT be returning, given the high prices and poor service. Expected better......

Both of our tenderloins were overdone (8 oz. medium was verging on dry in center and definitely dry at edges). Staff slow to get bread on table, service slow but otherwise staff pleasant and ok if you are not in a hurry. Expensive especially considering outcome of the cooked meat. Ok if you are tired but don't want to eat in your room (at the Nines) after a long flight, but otherwise would go elsewhere.

Urban Farmer is one of our go to places since we moved to downtown Portland over two years ago. The food is excellent; service very good, and the ambience comfortable. We often choose the Urban Farmer for Sunday brunch with guests, and will bring guests for dinner when we want to treat someone to a quality Portland food experience. When it is just me and my wife, we will go to their happy hour -- still good tapa like offerings and nice prices. Regualar dinner can get a little pricey but it is worth it. Sunday brunch has always been very reasonable price wise. Funny thing, though, the last two times we visited, when they brought my bill back for me to sign, they forgot to bring back my credit card. They were apologetic and quickly retrieved my card, but if it happens a thrid time in a row, I might be susupicious, :) Overall, a very good dining experience.

Urban Farmer is perfect for a relaxing dinner. We went on a Monday night and met our son's college roommate's parents. Dinner is served at a leisurely pace which gave us plenty of time to get to know them.

One person in our group has celiac disease. All the steaks are GF and most of the other items were (or could easily be). The chef customized another dish to remove shellfish butter.

Everyone loved their entrees (2 steaks & 2 fish) and sides.

One of our favorite places to go in Portland is Urban Farmer, located by the lobby of the Nines Hotel in downtown Portland. Great breakfasts, particularly their eggs benedict on freshly made and tasty English muffins.

Our only complaint is that they did not sign us in correctly from Open Table for the visit, requiring additional work to respond to Open Table letting them know we were not a no-show as well as having to talk to the staff at the restaurant.
