Upstairs at The Gwen
Loved our experience. Fantastic food and drinks!
Some of the food was a bit cold. Service was good to start but server seemed to disappear and we went awhile without being checked on or them collecting the bill.

Great lighting and interior. The salmon was very tasty. Loved the cabana

Quiet and pleasant, lovely staff. Food was good but not outstanding.

I was expecting to be completely blown away, didn't happen. This restaurant is in the lobby of a hotel. Its not worth paying for parking, or just the hassle of getting there unless your staying at The Gwen. I don't remember the food or the drinks. Its just meh!
Service was very poor, particularly the staff at the host stand. When being seated, he took our name and then walked away. Then later, we had a menu on our table for cocktails and he came over and took it away without saying anything. The food was good, but the ambiance is not what I was expecting or what was pictured online. Also, the menu is completely different than what’s listed on their website and other places. Very much a hotel bar and not a restaurant for dinner.
Semolina pasta was fabulous!!! Met my girlfriend there for lunch and the atmosphere was great, the service was friendly and attentive. I will return!
What a disappointment. Chose it for our Christmas Day dinner. It seemed like they were mad we were there.
Food and experience just OK. $30 for weekend buffet was VERY crazy! For that price no deserts or much selection. Not even a made to order egg station. The selection was what I have seen at most Marriott Club Lounges. Definitely one of the very few disappointments of the Gwen. Everything else is at a MUCH higher level.
Fantastic date night. The service was outstanding. I would highly recommend The Qwen wether it be a date night or a group of friends.
It’s not a restaurant, just a noisy bar with a few snacks and a couple of entrees in the bar menu. Luckily the food was good because the table was tiny and exposed, the room was noisy, and the server didn’t want to be there.
Food and service is decent. But the photos of this place are very misleading. This is a tiny lounge that serves food, not a restaurant.
We were three people at a little table with big club chairs. No room for food or drinks. Not comfortable. The turkey sausage was horrible. You need better seating for eating.
I really liked the vibe and the food at the Gwen but WOW the service was so so terrible. We had to ask for honey for the tea FOUR times (took 35 mins...) and they didn’t bring out the French fries until the entire meal was over. Very strange. That being said, the skillet was good (could have been more generous with the sausage), and the bloody Mary’s are great too.
The rooftop was a bit cold so we had our dinner inside the atmosphere was grat
I went for a quick birthday drink. It was my first time there and Ryan & Jason at the bar were great... thank you gentlemen!
Aweful service Slow. Inattentive. Forgot to put our food order in. Would never recommend this place to anyone.
This is not a restaurant - it’s a hotel lobby lounge!
Great Rooftop for a biz meeting or happy hour. Food was great and good service.
We were hoping the rooftop was open but because of the rainy weather, we were unable to enjoy it. The food and cocktails are overpriced but what else can you expect from a hotel/rooftop located in the heart of the loop. The food is pretty good! The place makes you feel super fancy and very boujee even though it is just a hotel lobby. I would go again, especially to experience the rooftop.
Great spot for drinks and lite dinner with rooftop experience
I love the outdoor patio at The Gwen with 2 caveats. 1. Make sure your reservation requests a table or they may seat you on a sofa. 2. I really hope they rethink the slide projected onto the exterior wall at night. While it is somewhat in the Art Deco theme, it is incredibly sexist. No naked women projections are appropriate unless they are accompanied by a naked man image. Oh, too tasteless? Then rethink the naked woman.
Classy place with a menu to match.
Loved it so much that I went back again.
We loved appetizers, very nice ambience.
Would definitely come back.
Our table wasn’t ready, but they accommodate in a timely manner.
We went for brunch. The avocado toast was truly amazing and the Bloody Mary was tasty too. Love this rooftop.
Overall I had a great experience, but the waiter took a little long to get our drinks and take our order. Their bottomless mimosas are only $15! The food was flavorful. The DJ and view was great also.
Brunch chicken sandwich wasn't very good. Brunch friend rice was excellent. Would be useful to note that the bottomless Prosecco is actually mimosas. Very important to note that when someone ordering is allergic to orange juice... fortunately our server was able to get us straight Prosecco.
Great atmosphere, tasty food, great drinks, great service & atmosphere
Ambience and the place is nice but I won’t definitely go back because the service was really poor we literally had to be behind of the waiter to be served
The outside terrace was very nice and the food was great. But the service was extremely slow.
Very nice location and food was great! Unfortunately the service was not great; we went unattended for almost 20 mins. Afterwards the manager was very attentive.
It was okay. Nothing special.
Service was slow.
Looks nothing like the pictures, I had higher expectations
Great experience overall. For it being not very packed at all, our service was way too slow.
Absolutely horrible service. Beyond.
I made a reservation to sit outside for brunch, upon arrival I was asked if I wanted to sit outside..? It was apparent that there was not a table reserved for the two of us and it wasn't crowded by any means. After being seated, the hostess and a waiter were waiting on us, it was very strange. Neither knew what the other had already done. Food was over priced and not good. We got both omelettes and both were tasteless. Potatoes were good. Outdoor space is nice, can see the surrounding buildings. I wouldn't recommend for the food, I may go back for drinks on the rooftop with hopes they're better organized.
Had a wonderful experience at Upstairs at the Glen! The staff was wonderful and flexible and made a stressful day run as smoothly as one could hope. Definitely check them out of you have the chance! Great food and service!
Upon arrival, we were seated immediately, but it took 15 MINUTES for someone to pour water, that's after we asked! After no one attended to our table for 40 MINUTES from arrival, we pulled over a random waitress, asking if we can order food. She was extremely apologetic and while we were not on her list of tables, she totally rolled up the sleeves, took our order swiftly, made recommendations and literally SAVED THE DAY! I didn't catch her name, but you can't miss her - petite young woman with dark hair and a trendy strip of white/gray in it, tattoos and cool eye makeup. She was exceptionally professional, apologetic, but without excuses. The food arrived in another 40 minutes, and while we asked for plates to come out as they were ready, all 4-5 plates were set on the table at once, so we were kind of stuck between deciding whether to let the steak get cold or the sashimi tostada get soggy. The food was great, but water was not refilled until we flagged down a bus boy and asked for it.
In terms of scenery - the view is meh... yes, a rooftop, but you're not really looking at anything glamorous. When you're waiting for that long to get served, you start to notice random things that your eye could have perhaps missed, such as beat up, cheap looking plastic/metal furniture, soggy pillows, stains on silverware, etc... THE CUSHIONS ON THE TALL BAR HEIGHT CHAIRS MUST BE REPLACED, EXCEPTIONALLY SOGGY! YOU JUST SINK RIGHT IN. I NEEDED TO SIT ON A PILLOW, BECAUSE MY BUTT KEPT FALLING BETWEEN THE RAILS OF THE CHAIR.
In terms of the overall ambiance, it really feels like an extension of the hotel's lobby. Not a trendy rooftop that's brag-worthy. And while the cocktails, food and presentation are pretty good, the overall experience combined with a pretty high bill are not worth it. There are too many amazing rooftops in chicago with great food, cocktails AND SERVICE, to cross this one off your list. Seriously, nothing to write home about.
Great atmosphere! Food was excellent!
