Delicious food and caring service. Will be back soon.
Awesome dishes with fabulous flavors. Excellent wine pairings. Not inexpensive, but a wonderful dining experience.
Friendliest restaurant, fabulous wine list and great food
We always have great dining experiences at Upstairs 2. The menu is spectacular and the service is superb.
The sticky toffee pudding for dessert is a must!!!
Went to Upstairs 2 while visiting our daughter and really loved it. The food was great and the wine was amazing! The owner picked out a red and a white wine for us based on what we like to drink and she was spot on. We will definitely go back on another trip to LA.
Great services and great wine. This restaurant is our go to for a family dinner out.
What a find! Great food, amazing wine options and friendly and efficient staff.
The food was quite tasty and the service, as usual, was excellent. The low score on value is due to $42 for a lobster tail dish in which the tail had to come from a lobster well under a pound. It was more like a langoustine tail than a lobster tail. Same problem with the lobster gnudi alternative, which again was very tasty but had almost no lobster. That dish was $29, so not as bad on value as the lobster tail dish. Since this is one of our goto restaurants, this experience won't stop us from coming back, but we'll question portion size for specials more carefully in the future.
I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. The wines and food are paired perfectly.
I was most disappointed in the special lobster tail that had been widely touted by the restaurant. The lobster tail was rubbery, overcooked, and did not appear fresh. After I tasted it the waiter came to ask me how it was, and I said it was not good. He graciously took it back and brought me another entrée of my choosing which was good (lamb chops) but not great.
For $42 the lobster entrée nor the lamb chops were not what I would expect from a restaurant that is otherwise known for its quality of food.
The parking lot was under repair and parking was difficult even with an attendant directing traffic. I would not return to this restaurant.
We came to the restaurant specifically to enjoy soft shell crabs as they were about to go out of season. We were not disappointed in the least. We began by sharing a light crab spring roll, Vietnamese style. We were each then served two good sized crabs with a tangy jicama slaw on the side of the lightly friend crabs. Great flavor in the crabs and just the right amount of breading, which is important since this dish is about the crab not the breadcrumbs! The wine list borders on the overwhelming, as one would expect from a restaurant associated with one of the finest wine shops on the West Coast, but surprisingly the selection by the glass was merely adequate but not deep. A light peach creme brulee finished the meal very nicely. Overall, a delicious meal.
Lovely environment with easy freeway access. Delicious with many choices. Terrific service and wonderful wine pairings. Always enjoyable.
We were charged for the soft shell crab when we thought it was on the dine LA special.
Delicious food, attentive service, interesting wine pairings.
All of the food was well prepared, tasty and delicious. The wine pairing added a great touch.
Excellent food, comfort ambiance, a little inconvenient to park
I had heard good things about Upstairs 2. Was disappointed.
The appetizer was puny - $7 for a tiny piece of blue cheese and another $7 for 5 paper-thin slices of salami.
Food tasted fine - ordered the NY steak. Small serving came with French fries. I ordered medicum rare; friend ordered medium well -- oddly, they looked about the same. Also, the menu says "no substitutions." Would have rather had some healthier options.
Staff was very friendly. But will not be going back. Better value elsewhere.
Amazing food and service!! Definitely would recommend this place for any type of occasion! Thank you for your hospitality!
Loved the tasting menu - please let us know when you have more of them!!
Gracious dining, wonderful food!
Great cozy place to meet with a few friends or date night.
Early pre-theater dinner, delicious and easy. Tremendous selection of wines by the taste, glass, and carafe, and food and service excellent from top to bottom.
A little loud but exciting. Great meal! Hierloom tomato salad, salmon main course and caramel dessert.
Your first introduction to any restaurant is the wait staff and at Upstairs 2 they are a delight -- from the twin hostesses to the awesome bartender to the servers who are just attentive enough! Everyone was there to make it an enjoyable experience. We ordered from the Dine LA menu and every course was delicious. The gazpacho, the intriguing tiger shrimp with lovely and flavorful ravioli and the chocolate bread pudding -- pure comfort! The wines are beautifully and thoughtfully paired with each course and the cocktails are fun. Go! You'll be glad you did!
The food (dine LA) menu was excellent. Good portions. I had the pork chop whiche was a good size and juicy. all of us shared the soft shell crab which was the best I have ever had (my wife and I had come back it was that good)
However, it use to be that if you go downstairs and purchase wine (same owner at wine house and upstairs 2) they would waive corkage. To our surprise not any more. $15 added on. No advantage to buy and drink.
We love this restaurant and go often. Try to avoid rush hour traffic because it is located near freeway onramp - or plot out your route so that you only turn right into the parking lot! Great food and nice people. If you go early, its wonderful location to have conversation without music blare.
This is truly one of the hidden gems on the west side. Located above the Wine House, it’s very low key but incredibly good. The Chef and Somm are fantastic, the food is excellent and the staff is very cordial.
This was my 2nd visit during DineLA, this time with my adult daughter. She apparently has higher standards than mine, and found fault with the quality of the red wine (I'm not an oenophile, but I have to agree the red tasted like it had passed its expiration date) and the food. I enjoyed my gazpacho w/shrimp, pork chop and chocolate bread pudding. She probably won't return. I will.
We have been to this place many times, never disappointed. Friendly staff, excellent food, extensive wine choices.
UP II is a wonderful find for anyone who has not tried yet. The menu is variable enough that anyone should be able to find something. The Prociutto salad is excellent. The bacon wrapped dates, a must. The Gnocchi is fantastic......and then the bread pudding. Have to get it. They are very accommodating. They do have a two bottle limit usually, but made an exception for us for our special occasion evening, which was greatly appreciated. Just my opinion but don't limit the bottles. The varied menu allows oenophiles to bring varying
wines to pair with the menu, and as a wine group of wine and foodie folks it makes for a nice outing.
My friends and I came for DineLA. We shared the soft shelled crabs as an appetizer and then we each ordered the DineLA menu. I had the peach salad, the salmon, and raspberry sorbet...Delicious!!!! We also shared a carafe of Proseco that was so good we shared a second carafe. I Love Upstairs2!! It is one of my favorite restaurants!!!
Disappointed with good and lousy wine pairing. My gazpaucho was bland, my tiger shrimp entree was served with cold hard peas. Ate in this venue years ago and had a wonderful food experience. Our Dine LA experience was disappointing.
Upstairs 2 is good, better than good, serving really quite delicious food, with attentive, friendly service, and a great, extremely reasonably priced wine list. The ambiance isn't anything special. It is above one of the best wine stores in the Los Angeles area.
I would certainly dine here again. Good food and wine, great service, at reasonable prices—why wouldn't I come back?
Chef, your duck ragu was terrible! Way too much marinara sauce. It killed the flavor of the duck. The duck was like hamburger. We’ve enjoyed your food very much. This was our first disappointment. We will keep the faith, but thought it’d be good for you to know from some duck fanatics. The gnocchi was great. Best, Lies andJudi
Food was excellent and beautifully presented. The chocolate bread pudding was especially good.,
What a great and unique location. Sits above the wine shop which also owns the restaurant. They are serious about their food and wine pairings. The service is awesome, they treat you like the family that owns and runs the shop and restaurant. The menu has great creative options for everyone and is always changing.
As always the food was wonderful and the service was great. We went for Dine L.A. The only downside to this dinner was that they changed two ofthe wines that were originally listed for the event. Unfortunately they changed to two wines I'm not particularly fond of. I didn't notice it on the menu or I would have ordered the wines I wanted for the meal. Sean was very accommodating and switched the Chardonnay (something I don't particularly like) for the original Pinot Gris. My husband was fine with the Chardonnay. The Chianti for the second course was okay, but not stellar, with my entree but didn't go with my husband's at all. The original Pinot Noir would have been a better choice. I will still be back but I will make sure I read the menu more closely next time.
The best unknown secret in town. Superb food, great wine list. Casual and personable service.
I always like eating here. Your new Chef is very good. We had the soft shelled crab--
It was wonderful!
My friends and I loved our Dine LA experience. The food was delicious and the value was great!
We have been frequent customers of the Wine House, on the floor below Upstairs 2, for many years and have always been curious about the place, but never big on going out to dinner (they're not open for lunch). This year, for DineLA, we decided to finally give the place a try. We are so glad we did. The service is wonderful - our server Sean was attentive and very open to accommodating our various little requests, as well as being very nice and fun to talk to. The hostesses Mary and Marylin (sp?) were very nice to talk to and very friendly. She brought us a wonderful bottle of wine even though they had only a limited supply left, because she thought we would be much happier with it, and it was just fantastic. The food was absolutely great - we ordered from the DineLA menu, but also were able to get some soft-shell crab which was just wonderful (though the jicama slaw was spicy when it didn't seem like it should need to be). The parmesan gnocchi was one of the best gnocchi dishes I ever had, and the scallops were cooked perfectly with the delightful sweet corn soup. The duck ragu with fried broccolini was just amazing. And the desserts were utterly fantastic, especially with the late harvest chianti we had - all the wines were just wonderful. We had a fabulous time, loved everyone we talked to, and will definitely be coming back for more. Our only complaint was that the light coming in from the windows was a stark contrast to the lighting and ambiance of the room, which made for a weird lighting situation. It was a little bothersome, but a hat took care of it, for the most part. If they'd closed the curtains, I'm sure it would have been perfect. All in all, we really did have a fantastic time and we look forward to going back.
