Our magical conservatory restaurant is set amid Updown’s rambling grounds. Dine under the grape vines surrounded by beautiful 17th century brick and watch the chefs in the open kitchen tending to the wood fired grill and original farm house bread oven. The restaurant has been completely transformed by owners Ruth and Oli to be heated and fully enclosed and is open year round.

Menus will be small, hyper seasonal and use the best of local and European produce and change on regular basis to reflect what’s best. Everything is cooked over wood in the open kitchen. There is a short list of exciting wines of limited availability, local beers and seasonal cocktails.

Monday - Friday lunch as well as Monday & Tuesday dinner we have a 3 course set menu along side our full menu at £35. On Wednesday nights along side our full menu we cook a Steak Night menu , priced at £30 per person for 3 courses. On Sunday our restaurant is only open for lunch 12 -4pm.

Updown has several beautiful spaces in which to host your private event. We have a beautiful conservatory Private Dining Room overlooking the farmhouse lawn. It is perfect for groups of 4 to 16 for a seated meal, or up to 20 for a drinks party. The main restaurant can accommodate up to 60 sitting or 150 standing and is ideal for a larger party.

Just had Sunday lunch, unbelievably tasty and good value! Pork was the best we’ve ever tasted, gazpacho, terrine and bread and butter pud, sublime. Melon sorbet!! Stunning surroundings and great staff. Thank you. Back soon! X

The location is stunning and on a warm evening sitting outside on the terrace is delightful. However that is where it stops. The food unfortunately was ordinary at best. We were a table of 5 and only one of us was impressed with the main course (chicken). The fish course was flavourless and very oddly proportioned and the lamb was almost inedible. The starters were not much better with a revolting piece of lard over what was a perfectly good anchovy on sourdough. The deserts ordinary and poorly presented. The wine list is also odd - limited and with prices that jump to very expensive and little options at a mid price (£40-50 bottle) of wine. The service was naive, slow and forgetful. The ambiance of the place is fabulous. It is such a shame the food and service does not live up to its surrounds. Disappointing. Would not recommend.

Fabulous food in a rather wonderful indoor garden setting, with an outdoor garden view. Lovely informal atmosphere, and were able to leave our table and wander through the gardens and even the house. Staff were charming and very personable and the kitchen/ servers did a staunch job despite the loss of electricity for an hour or so. Quietly went about their business with no sign of panic. The show must go on. Compliments to everyone for grace under pressure.

I booked online and on arrival asked for a quiet table. Food good - excellent in fact. Service and ambience were sadly lacking. We were rushed - first course arrived but we'd had hardly had a moment to start our aperitifs - let alone finish them. Mains arrived almost immediately after the first course plates had been taken away. The waitress attempted to clear the mains before one our guests had finished her meal. The noise from the one other table was really disappointing - unbridled and socially inappropriate behaviour for a restaurant - it happens sometimes but RELIABILITY IS IMPORTANT and I felt the ethos of good dining surrendered without taking a stand, to this particular party of young ladies (possibly a Hen Night). With the noise from this table (the only other diners!) and the speaker on the floor blaring out music (we asked for it to be turned down) , we found it impossible to dine and talk unimpeded by all the noise. We elected not to stay for coffee or dessert. Maybe we were unlucky but the combination of rushed service (which was for no apparent reason, lacking finesse entirely) and a noisy dinning experience was exactly what we didn't want or expect for our guests on their last night of a holiday from abroad. Sad as we have had two other very positive experiences dining there.

We wanted somewhere special, somewhere unusual for lunch and Updown Farmhouse met both criteria. The setting was wonderful as was the food and service. We very much look forward to visiting again.

Fabulous garden terrace for Al fresco dining. Food showed serious skill and was mouth wateringly good. It was a long drive (over 1 hour) but we would do it again. Thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxed lunch.

Rack of lamb, only got 2 cutlets would have thought for the price 4! Seafood linguine offered as a starter for £18 but wife fancied it as a main so was charged double! Linguine seemed to be very bitty not long strands , Lots of sauce and presented poorly on a plate (would have expected a nice pasta bowl). Food was very tasty but just need to improve a few details to improve the experience.

Lovely setting but the meal was definitely not up to the standard of a restaurant in the Michelin guide. We had the set menu nothing of which was delicate or refined or had the wow factor. Our choice consisted of soup but no bread to accompany this (advised later by waitress we could have requested this, it should have been offered) a large pork chop just sitting on the plate with no accompanying potatoes/ vegetables etc you had to pay for those and chocolate mouse which looked as thought it had been dolloped on by trowel. Such a shame as we were really looking forward to it. We were also advised that we are not the first customers to make these observations which the owner and chef were aware of maybe they should take note.

This is such a beautiful place and the food lived up to the promise of the surroundings. I think it’s the best roast lunch I’ve had in a decade. Highly recommended.
