Up Restaurant - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
New Years. They made the evening feel rushed. Appetizers made it to the table before the drinks. Waiter requested the order as soon as appetizers came. It was hard to have a conversation without someone popping back in. With high end restaurants, a dessert bar is never acceptable. I have enjoyed this Restaurant on many other non occasion nights. On this New Years, they were not crowded, I feel they should have not been so quick to rush you through. A table that sits and drinks, pays the bills.
The restaurant was not busy when we were there earlier this week, yet it took an hour for my friend to get her food, and I still did not have my food 30 minutes later. We asked and asked and were reassured the food was coming, but had to really push to get my food--and my friend was done with hers before I ever received any of mine. And I only ordered 2 appetizers! I will not be visiting UP again.
1) Bread was very dry and stale. It crumbled apart as I ate it.
2) Waiter did not know the menu and could not speak to the dishes. He stated, there were only 2 seafood dishes on the menu...well over 10.
3) Had to wait 40 minutes for food. We got up to leave and then they ran the food to the table. No apologies. No effort to make it up. We had the bouillabaisse (soup) and French Quarter Shrimp. These dishes are 90% assembly; not fancy dishes.
4) Small portions and overpriced. There is nothing special about their dishes/flavors/presentation.
5) I visited Up years ago and it was okay. I thought they would have improved but they got worse. I don't know how this place is still open.
The food was amazing. Service was a bit slow but that was only a problem because we needed to get to the theatre, otherwise it was absolutely perfect. I had the lobster bisque and tableside truffled pasta, and both were fabulous. My partner had the tortilla soup and lobster ravioli, and he enjoyed both, though he found the ravioli rather salty. We also shared the cream corn brulée and that was also lovely. The macaron sampler for dessert was a lot of fun -- we got it to-go and had them as snacks the next day. The macarons were huge!
The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere, full of warm-coloured light wood and bright sparkly lights. We had a table right by the window so we got to look out at Highland Village all decorated up for Christmas!
Went for a late lunch during the holidays, and we were one of 3 tables, all sharing the same waiter. Considering how few tables there were, the service could have been a little more attentive, however it was by no means negligent. Food was fantastic, and I will definitely be returning.
The food was very good but the service seemed juvenile. We felt rushed to order, appetizers arrived quickly and then there was a long wait for the entree. Filet had to be sent back because it was cold in the middle. Lobster Ravioli and New Orleans Shrimp were fantastic.
Every year a small group of my college friends get together for a holiday dinner. We always try a new spot & this was a great selection! We sat at the bar a bit even though our table was ready. They didn't care! The bartender & the staff were so nice & loved hearing the story of our annual get together. They sat us at our table when we were ready. Service was wonderful! Everyone loved their meals. We would all go back again & we all would recommend this restaurant to others
After numerous off the menu occasions I looked forward to a buffet to answer just about all palates .. NOPE .. I expected a carvery turkey not a presliced over cooked bird. Desserts were dry .. mashed potatoes not traditional .. vegetables had sat in steam table way to long. A meat ball at Thanksgiving? ? While tasty not a wished for surprise!
Next year ... pass.
We went for Thanksgiving Brunch and pretty much everything was wonderful. The service was exceptional -- attentive, yet quiet and unobtrusive. The food was excellent all around . . . a few 'high's and a couple of 'lows', but overall the food experience was what you'd want from a high-end celebration buffet. It was comforting, yet a little challenging. And, the ambiance can't be beat. It is a gorgeous restaurant!
Went here for the first time with a friend for a girls night and happened to have an opentable gift card. Our waiter was excellent, very attentive and made awesome suggestions - our dinner was delicious! Everything wasdelightful until it came time to pay. The waiter didn't know how to use the gift card (totally understandable, I'd never used one either) so the manager came over and our wine/dinner was well under the total of the gift card but I was told I couldn't keep the remaining balance it just had to be discarded. Then the manager had the audacity to tell us if we intended on leaving a tip we would have to purchase something else so he could add gratuity. Outrageous, it really spurs the evening and I'll never return to Up.
We took my wife to Up for a birthday dinner. Highland Village is decorated for the holidays so the views were beautiful as is the décor of the restaurant. Service was very good. Food was solid but not outstanding. The exception was the Paella - which was excellent.
The host was friendly. Kept checking on us.
The food was not bad. We had the Hongkong style red fish and Paella, but they are not great either. Just not too bad. My wife like the Paella. I thought authentic Paella should be a little more wet. The fish had good sauce, but was somewhat disrupted by the taste of the charcoal taste. The chocolate desert was great.
The ambient was nice. We liked the decors. Had a good view looking down on Weatheimer. It was nice and quiet for a while, until they seated a young group if 6 on the adjacent table, and they talked loud. I do not like the complimentary valet, as I generally prefer to park my own car. When we left the restaurant, the valet attendant almost backed my car into another. My wife had to run out on the parking to signal him to stop. Nothing against the valet attendant though. He seemed nice and I thouht that was not the way he always drives.
Food was delicious (ordered lobster bisque, prime steak salad and shrimp pasta. Pasta was a bit salty but other two were awesome)
Their bread is very good. It's the softest bread i've ever tasted and goes well with the lobster bisque :)
Great experience for my birthday!
Had a nice lunch.
Place was well decorated with a smooth elevator which takes you up to the lobby.
The woman who greeted us was friendly and efficient.
We were given water, humus and flat bread/cracker promptly.
It took awhile before we were approached to order, but when taken it was done seamlessly.
Burger was excellent
Slow cooked Beef Short ribs were not as hot as I would have liked, which makes me feel like they were not cooking for more than 18 hours...or whatever is advertised. Anyway they tasted good enough.
Fries were just okay, not bad, not special.
Service was great!
would go back again, and sample different items.
