Unum Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I chose this restaurant because the review I read said it was a less touristy, more neighborhood type restaurant. I was not disappointed. We were seated in the alcove to the side, and were able to carry on a conversation easily. I was impressed with the menu. While it is not lengthy, the offerings are varied and the option to order a half portion is such a nice touch. Four out of four meals (ranging from steak, to pasta, to fish, to pork) at our table were excellent. And, the service was exceptional. We all agree that we will return.
Really lovely atmosphere and inventive, delicious food. When the steak was not cooked to our liking, our server immediately responded by bringing another, cooked as requested, no questions asked. Then the chef/ owner came to the table to make sure everything was acceptable. A great spot! Highly recommend.
The food was excellent however the experience was blemished by the service which was slow and very inattentive. It seemed that waiters would disappear for large chunks of time, go outside, or converse with each other. We were also sat right by the door which was cold and drafty and on us for not asking to move. My date and I shared the bronzino, scallops, squid ink, cauliflower, and creamed spinach. All the dishes were delicious and what kept us happy!
We were a bit hesitant about trying Unum because of a few previous reviews about spotty service. As it turned out, the service could not have been better, starting with the hostess and continuing with the server and bartender. Food was delicious and nicely plated; I had the roasted cauliflower as an appetizer and can't wait to go back and order it again. The restaurant got somewhat noisy as the evening went on but if you're not old and a little hard of hearing like we are, you'll be fine. Highly recommended.
We had a delicious meal at Unum. The food was creative, fresh, and very tasty.
The price was moderate compared to the quality of the cuisine.
The service was a bit distracted, but overall it was well-intentioned.
All together a very enjoyable dinner experience.
Unum was fantastic! The scallops were some of the best I have ever eaten. I kept talking about them on the way home. Being able to have half plates is a great idea that I wish more restaurants would do as I am not a big eater but still got try a few things. Service was polite and not intrusive at all. I don't know why there isn't a line out this place every night. Really one of the best restaurants in DC, certainly Georgetown. And it doesn't cost an arm and leg either!
The scallops were the best I've ever had!! And the bone marrow with the roasted garlic and toasted bread was excellent. It was evident that the chef put a significant amount of care in crafting the menu and our dishes. I was extremely impressed. My compliments to the chef.
Came here for a birthday celebration and everything was wonderful! We had cheese and salamis to start, then shared two pastas, perfectly cooked scallops, cod with clams in a bouillabaisse, duck tacos and even though we were stuffed they sent us a terrific dessert (with candle, no singing though!). We stayed late and they didn't bother us to leave. All in all it was a memorable night and we'll be back long before another birthday!!
The food was amazing and the staff couldn't have been better! The bartender made the best drinks (some were his own recipes!), the Host was super helpful and courteous, and we even got a special visit from the chef to wish the birthday girl a Happy Birthday! Will definitely return soon!
What a find! Away from overwrought, pretentious snobs or iphone obsessed millennials, this tiny restaurant-- which is hard to find-- is classy & delicious. Great choices with half plates available for most dishes, very nice wine list, reasonable prices and lovely staff. A must go.
My favorite go-to restaurant in DC, gone bad. Huge decline. Half the items on menu were not available and the drinks were made by an amateur bartender. More than an hour between seating and ordering drinks. When the food came, it was subpar. Honestly... what happened??? A Great restaurant gone bad.
The ambience and the food is really good at Unum. The bartender makes amazing cocktails. The only downside was that once seated we did not have good service and one side dish came after we had basically finished our meal. The waiter didn't say anything about that or apologize. We had to track him down for more drinks and ask for bread when everyone else had theirs. I love the location and mostly sit at the bar where I always have great service.
A spectacular dining experience!
Go here! The food is creative and yet simple? The wine list is appropriate and unpretentious and Dimitri behind the bar is a master!
Phillip, the owner, is so knowledgeable, gracious and unpretentious. This is the bistro you have been looking for.
Restaurant week menu, a great value at $39, included appetizer, two main courses and dessert, of which only the tomato and burrata was a little side with two lonely cherry tomatoes. The main courses were all just fine: I enjoyed crab cake and crispy soft shell, and our friends seemed to eat with relish. The dessert of some kind of cheese fritter was pleasant and light. Witty wine list. Advice: go early. As the restaurant fills up the noise becomes deafening.
Off the charts! EVERYTHING was executed perfectly! I couldn't believe the deal with restaurant week we got too... 4 courses each for $35! Beautiful pasta both with braised shirt rib and squid ink variety for a light, slightly spicy shrimp dish. Soft shell crab dish was a surprising combination of mango salsa and capers--where the sweet & salty partnered well to the... crab-iness. Caprese was beautiful and well-balanced; both of us are reconsidering our position on cruciferous vegetables after the roasted cauliflower and romesco dish. Perfect medium-rare hangar. Beautiful coconut panna cotta (even seemed to have a layer of coconut water and coconut milk... the real deal) with raspberry coulis and tarragon and cheeses for he grand finale (one of the ones we had seemed to be a crossover between Brie and ricotta that was divine). We cleaned every plate. And the chef humbly cleared our last course as he observed us in the dining room... refreshing to see someone so involved with his work from beginning to end. #academia
I would/will go to Unum again in a heartbeat. Unum was exactly the meal I needed ;) #epicureanTherapy
We weren't drinking that night so I can't comment there.
