About

This restaurant is permanently closed. Unum is a small, nearly hidden restaurant in the middle of Georgetown. Serving contemporary American food in a sophisticated but unpretentious setting. A favorite among locals, but we welcome visitors from across the globe (e pluribus unum, after all).

We will be serving brunch "Pop-Ups" the last 3 weekends in August and then closing for a little break over Labor Day Weekend.

Unum was fabulous. We were so sorry to hear that it closed the following day.

Unum is delicious and comfortable. And Chef Phil is just the best of the best. Its as if you’re eating at home when home is beautiful and someone else is cooking amazing food!

Great little restaurant. Perfect for all appetite levels as entrees are offered either full or half plate. The beet salad is "un-beetable"; the grilled octupus is exquisite.

Great Chef. Consistently great food. Love that you can order 1/2 portion. Gives everyone a chance to taste more than one great entree. Not just a neighborhood gem; much more than that! Great food.

THIS IS THE VERY BEST RESTAURANT EVER IN GEORGETOWN. PERHAPS DC. MAYBE THE UNITED STATES. PROBABLY THE ENTIRE WESTERN HEMISPHERE.

It was ok. The clientele is on the stuffy side, so if you're looking for a place to get together with your friends and have a good time, this is definitely not it. The staff was nice, service was good. The food was yummy, however we had two vegans with us and they couldn't eat anything because all of their offerings had animal ingredients (even the french fries). Not a big deal tho, just heads up to the vegans out there.

Overall it was good, but I wouldn't go back just because it caters to an older, more quiet crowd.

A great find in Georgetown. Imaginative menu, beautifully prepared seafood, small plates and very reasonable for the quality of the cuisine. A few lower priced wines would be nice.

Unum serves consistently good food. All items come in half or full orders. I love this as I can taste more than one delicious dish. The Chef/owner and his wife are very friendly and often come out and visit with customers. The menu changes each season and has a lot of variety. Don't be offset by the menu, preparations seem "unusual" and sometimes it seems that we don't know what to order, but, whatever we order is always delicious. Wines are very good and reasonably priced as is the food. Great local place with a charming decor and friendly service. It will easily become your favorite neighborhood dining spot.

Normally very pleasant evening is had at UNUM. Not so this time, perhaps just an off night but neither service nor food was up to par. Also, tables were really close and the noise was much louder than normal. Might be a while before I return.

This is the third time that I have eaten at this restaurant. The food has always been very good but the service leaves something to be desired. The last time I was there they automatically put a tip in because our group consisted of 5 people which I was surprised about given that most restaurants only do that for groups of 6 or more. I would not have had a problem with this if I thought that the service deserved a 20% service charge. Not sure that I will go back again.

Excellent place. The food was superb and the service excellent. It was a last minute find but would highly recommend. The service was professional, friendly and refreshingly understated. Absolutely worth the trip to Georgetown from anywhere in the DC area.

Everything we had we really, really enjoyed. The lamb was out of this world! Scallops were cooked perfectly & the pasta with shrimp was heavenly. Nice staff and decent prices for how much you can get. Will definitely be back!!

I chose this restaurant because the review I read said it was a less touristy, more neighborhood type restaurant. I was not disappointed. We were seated in the alcove to the side, and were able to carry on a conversation easily. I was impressed with the menu. While it is not lengthy, the offerings are varied and the option to order a half portion is such a nice touch. Four out of four meals (ranging from steak, to pasta, to fish, to pork) at our table were excellent. And, the service was exceptional. We all agree that we will return.

Really lovely atmosphere and inventive, delicious food. When the steak was not cooked to our liking, our server immediately responded by bringing another, cooked as requested, no questions asked. Then the chef/ owner came to the table to make sure everything was acceptable. A great spot! Highly recommend.

The food was excellent however the experience was blemished by the service which was slow and very inattentive. It seemed that waiters would disappear for large chunks of time, go outside, or converse with each other. We were also sat right by the door which was cold and drafty and on us for not asking to move. My date and I shared the bronzino, scallops, squid ink, cauliflower, and creamed spinach. All the dishes were delicious and what kept us happy!

We were a bit hesitant about trying Unum because of a few previous reviews about spotty service. As it turned out, the service could not have been better, starting with the hostess and continuing with the server and bartender. Food was delicious and nicely plated; I had the roasted cauliflower as an appetizer and can't wait to go back and order it again. The restaurant got somewhat noisy as the evening went on but if you're not old and a little hard of hearing like we are, you'll be fine. Highly recommended.

We had a delicious meal at Unum. The food was creative, fresh, and very tasty.
The price was moderate compared to the quality of the cuisine.
The service was a bit distracted, but overall it was well-intentioned.
All together a very enjoyable dinner experience.

This is a gem on M Street, where dining is otherwise humdrum. Being able to select a half entree allows one to sample more flavors. We were cozy and felt cared for, during an evening with friends.

Nice and quiet even when pretty full. Great service. I come back a lot!

Poor service because the restaurant was understaffed. They literally forgot about us. We had to ask for our waiter to come with menus and then had to call the waiter back to take our order. They comped our drinks and apologized. Food was good otherwise.

Unum was fantastic! The scallops were some of the best I have ever eaten. I kept talking about them on the way home. Being able to have half plates is a great idea that I wish more restaurants would do as I am not a big eater but still got try a few things. Service was polite and not intrusive at all. I don't know why there isn't a line out this place every night. Really one of the best restaurants in DC, certainly Georgetown. And it doesn't cost an arm and leg either!

The scallops were the best I've ever had!! And the bone marrow with the roasted garlic and toasted bread was excellent. It was evident that the chef put a significant amount of care in crafting the menu and our dishes. I was extremely impressed. My compliments to the chef.

Came here for a birthday celebration and everything was wonderful! We had cheese and salamis to start, then shared two pastas, perfectly cooked scallops, cod with clams in a bouillabaisse, duck tacos and even though we were stuffed they sent us a terrific dessert (with candle, no singing though!). We stayed late and they didn't bother us to leave. All in all it was a memorable night and we'll be back long before another birthday!!

My favorite go-to restaurant in DC, gone bad. Huge decline. Half the items on menu were not available and the drinks were made by an amateur bartender. More than an hour between seating and ordering drinks. When the food came, it was subpar. Honestly... what happened??? A Great restaurant gone bad.
