Great food and experience. We went for my boyfriend's birthday and had a good experience. I highly recommend the tempura platter and Devon roll!
Chef Chow, the staff, and the food were excellent! We sat at the sushi bar and watched the magic happen! From the open flame grill to the creation of the sushi rolls we watched it all happen and asked a lot of question all of which were answered Chef Chow. He also made some recommendations which were outstanding. This is a good spot for date night or group dinners! Did I say the service was excellent!?
Cool space with lots of options. Food sounds more exotic than it tastes. They're always super busy so service was a bit slow.
Always great food! Very good and good value happy hour!
We took our two adult children for dinner and loved it. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and very friendly. We loved the specialty cocktail!! I made mention that I didn't particularly like one of the appetizers but everyone's palette is different. As an apology the waitress and manager treated us to one of their wonderful desserts. Highly recommend this place.
The yakitori grill here is fantastic, but it's also still my favorite sushi spot in River North, always very fresh and nice variety of rolls. I particularly enjoyed the black rice sampler.
Came here with my family. Hand rolls, ramen, and grill food are worth returning for. Would recommend the soft shell crab appetizer. Super delicious!!! Seafood ramen was a little unusual but in a very tasty way. Everything off the grill is great.
Not as much of a fan of the duck yakisoba or unagi don. I’ve had much much better for much much less at fast food spots in Japan. The portion sizes and quality don’t justify the price for those two. Yakisoba was spicy to the point of masking flavor. Unagi was a little dry.
We sat at 8:45. I ordered one cocktail and was never offered another. At 9:50 I asked for another drink and was told it was "last call" at 9:45. Just basic bad service.
Also the food was unimaginative and all tasted the same- like generic soy/teriyaki sauce.
Do not recommend.
Friendly staff, good vibe. We went on a weekend night, very busy but quick service. Our table was not ready at our reservation time (we waited about 20 mins); once we were seated they sent out two large appetizers to apologize for the delay - nice touch.
Spicy Tuna roll was great, as was the incredible pumpkin dessert - a must try!
We had a great meal here, oysters, sushi rolls, sashimi, barbequed scallops. The cocktail menu was unique also had a Japanese craft beer. We sat at the bar. The bartender gave a great service.
Location near the El train tracks makes conversation in the restaurant a bit difficult at times. Service was top-notch and offerings were both tasty and inventive. Would recommend.
The atmosphere was nice. They had the front windows open which gave it a nice open feeling and nice breeze. Like a number of so so sushi restaurants their servings are too big. Any of the top sushi restaurants have small servings. One of my customers commented eating a piece of tuna (sashimi) was like eating a large piece of ham. Not good. I agreed. I had the same experience. We paid extra for maguro from the belly and it fell apart when I tried to pick it up. I am pretty adept with my chop sticks so I was able to recover the remains out of my soy sauce.
What was good? Their special drinks were nicely done. The bbq beef skewers were nicely prepared and the Alaskan crab legs a must!!!
You can't go wrong here. Union Sushi never disappoints.
Delicious sushi, delicious cooked food. A bit pricey but food delicious.
The quality of food was great, it was just a bit pricey for the amount of food. For the amount we paid, we still left hungry. Would definitely come for happy hour specials though.. Not a ton of options, but at least a little more affordable.
Another great experience at Union Sushi. I went with my uncle, husband, and a few of my uncles colleagues from China. We had a reservation at 9:15pm and they were running a little behind, but were extremely attentive to us the entire time, making sure to keep us in the loop about the delayed seating. When we arrived to our table, we had appetizers on our table right away and the service was spectacular. The food was soo good - we started with complimentary truffle tuna tartar, that stuff is killer! We got a ton off additional appetizers but the true standouts were the soft shell crab, uni shooters, and all of the rolls. The king crab robata is also spectacular. Keep up the solid work, Union!
Love the place! Excellent sushi and service is superb.
Good spot other than the proximity to the el train (makes for severe noise if you are on the west side of the restaurant). Some interesting menu choices - the alligator rib sounded much cooler than it ended up on the plate - avoid that but everything else was great (black rice sushi, fish, etc.). Cool vibe more for casual meal than business discussion.
My date had sashimi cup, a rainbow roll and a special cry tuna with black rice. He said it was all delicious. I had the mushroom soup and beef broth was a bit of a surprise but it was ok. I tried the bbq short rib. Parts were charred. Parts were soft, rawish and mushy. I sent it back and got the thick bacon with salad on top and it was delicious! For dessert we shared three gelatos. Yum!
It is right next to the el so it can be noisy but we were fine.
Our server was pretty bad. Like. Really bad. But I think the manager understood – he discounted us and threw in a free dessert!
Did not have a great experience. Waitress forgot my soup, then it came out with the meal. Asked them to reheat the meal but it was lukewarm. Quite a bit of money for a very average experience.
Very good, interesting food. I liked having sushi AND BBQ dishes at the same meal. We were able to construct meals that varied in taste, color, and texture. And all were good. This is a good restaurant for vegetarians.
Union sushi keep surprising me with new specials, happy hour deals and great food. I love the place
Food was extraordinary as always. Manager Owen made the perfect suggestions based on our likes and dislikes. Love the cocktails also. Absolutely one of our favorite spots.
The best ramen, specifically the spicy pigtail and seafood.
union bar was amazing, food & service were 4 stars I had the spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll, and king crab nigiri the scallops were my favorite. a very recommended sushi place!
On of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Good food, excellent service.
We came here for a recommendation from a Chicago local for their happy hour. $1 oysters, $3 beef skewers, $5 Moscow Mules!!! I was impressed how good everything was! The restaurant was beautiful, the windows were open and when the trains came by you couldn’t hear very well, but it’s not their fault for that.
Outstanding service, everyone there was super nice. Cocktails were delicious and the sushi was great. I will definitley go again and highly recommend you go as well.
Really exceptional meal. Great experience from start to finish.
Great happy hour! Awesome waiter. Really enjoyed it.
Expensive but some of the best sushi I’ve had in awhile
Great place for meat and sushi lovers. Modern fun atmosphere. Good happy hour choices. Very unique menu with gastromic flair! Look forward to returning.
Service is spot-on at Union Sushi. It can be kid-friendly as well if you are there early (5pm for us). Food came out quickly and the birthday ice cream was the icing on the cake to a lovely evening.
Outstanding food and service
Terrific menu. Although very busy, the service was great. The waiters have a great fun attitude, and they tell you how much they love the food. The food was great. My daughter, who is a vegan, said that the vegan selections were the best.
Sushi and skewers were excellent. Drink selection was good and prices were very reasonable. Ramen bowls were huge and full of fresh ingredients..but were lacking in seasoning. Overall our group enjoyed our meal and would definitely return.
Overall a cute spot. We had the tuna appetizer and the black rice sampler and both were good. The complimentary edamame tasted a little strange.. almost like it was dipped in milk. They had $5 glasses of rose on special which was nice. Overall food and drinks were good. Service though. Not the greatest. Waitress took our order and barely checked in after. And what seemed like every 5 minutes we were asked by the waitstaff if we were done with our plate, when there was still sushi on it. That part..super annoying.
great happy hour spot with good music!!! They have happy hour specials from 4-630pm each day, and their regular menu also has great options to choose from.
Service was great! Saturday night so a bit louder but nothing you wouldn’t want if you were wanting to get out in Chi- Town. Sushi was fresh and ingredients on point to menu description. Cocktails were good and for Chicago priced right...or better. I’m a Cleveland guy and they get $12-14 for mules so same price point is good. I need to move!
