There was no social distancing. They sat a couple right next to us at the bar with no divider. We ended up leaving early because we were uncomfortable.
Great sushi, good service and enjoyable atmosphere.
Very little food for the price. Not great quality
Amazing ambiance and great service!! We missed the happy hour, we'll definitely be coming back.
Outside dining got cold. Heat lamp ran out of oil. Train was very loud and annoying. Next time I’ll sit inside. Food and service was excellent.
The food here was amazing!! Seriously, it is now one of my favorite places for Sushi - get the Godzilla role!! The BBQ was also incredible. The only reason 'value' was less for me was that the drinks were a little pricey for the quantity you received.
I love union sushi. However, Covid19 has the ambiance unappealing compared to how it use to be 😩
As a frequent patron there prior to the pandemic, I still give a thumbs up and 5 stars on the food and service. However, for a busy Thursday night, I was extremely disappointed in how the restaurant management and staff were not fully abiding the general restaurant standards for Covid prevention. It is one thing to serve and dine outdoors but it was a chilly night, thus the capacity was extremely full for indoors. I appreciate the wall dividers, but as I was seated with my date at a corner table against the wall by the bar area, the length of the wall divider to the right was too short and allowed for air circulation with another table seated with no mask. That neighboring table was just too close, whether partition or not. The restaurant should have marker signs on the floor and on walls, or at least temporary podium stands. Also, to get rid of the table alternating with the other table. Simply, best solution for indoors is do not accept reserves for every table next to each other. The city of Chicago just approved about 20-40 percent capacity indoors. Not following as it was on Thursday night. Also, my table was uncomfortable bc there were patrons standing and drinking by the bar while waiting for a table, all mask free and drinking. Too much congregating in aisle next to tables without masks. Very uncomfortable. I understand it is chilly to stand outside when waiting for a table, but this virus is contagious indoors. This is my honest opinion as I love love dining there and love the menu! Please update the standards or research other sushi restaurants so it will not turn away the most favorite patrons! Thx!!
Felt very comfortable and safe with their Covid adjustments. Food was great and so was the service. I will definitely be dining here again.
The food was not great, my teen daughter was home sick after eating the seaweed salad. There was a ton of dust and spiderwebs throughout the ceiling of restaurant which speaks to possibly being closed for so long through COVID. The service was good, but unfortunately the food was not the best. The sushi was Room temp and the edamame was probably the best dish.
We called the hostess because we were running a few minutes behind, and she changed our arrival time to ensure we would be right on time which I truly appreciated. We were taken care of from the time we walked in until we left! The food was amazing (miso salmon, dragon, spicy tuna & godzilla rolls, tempura plate, and crispy calamari). We asked about the sake, and our waitress brought us a sample...so smooth, we ended up with a bottle! And she was so attentive because it was my birthday, and topped our amazing dinner with the chocolate mousse crunch (no charge to us). Loved it, will be going back!
I have been coming to Union for a while now and their food never disappoints! However, pre-Covid, they had the best happy hour....5$ flavored mules, 3$ beef filet skewers, free edamame, etc. Now, this is no more😞. The mules are 14$, beef filet 10.50$, no free edamame...they do still have half price glasses of wine. They also took my favorite roll off the menu (Clifton #4). I understand the reasoning behind all of this and I'm hopeful once things go back to normal, so will their happy hour. I will say the food is still amazing. We had the Godzilla roll and the Pacific Coast Rolls along with beef skewers. The service is also great, very friendly staff! They are doing outdoor seating and indoor seating, next to large open windows. All of the indoor tables are separated by screens, temperatures are taken at the door, staff wears masks, and patrons are required to wear masks other than when they are eating or drinking. I will continue to visit, but look forward to the old happy hour to come back.
While it’s great to have outdoor seating when the weather permits, be advised that the train is right beside the restaurant. I ordered the cauliflower salad which was flavorful and very unique. The buffalo duck wing has a kick and was crispy and tender.
Always love Union. To no fault of Union, Covid restrictions change the experience. The noise of the train is louder than ever before. We must eat outdoors or indoors with the windows open, although I don’t see why that is necessary to keep windows open. They’ve taken good precautions to separate tables by adding a dark brown wall between each. Although this is nice for some, I felt like I was eating in a cave. A clear partition may have been a better choice. You can’t enjoy the atmosphere, and it’s a pretty restaurant. Food is also limited now. Not your usual rolls.
It was a good experience other then having to speak really loud for the server to hear us since she was standing so far back. Other then that the food was great and the restaurant was really nice.
My son and I had the Godzilla sushi, shrimp tempura and buffalo duck. It was great.
On the outside my foodie sister was skeptical but the food and service was outstanding!!
Never disappoints! Love the yummy food and amazing staff!
Best food ever. Great cocktails. Great service. Lovely clean staff. Tables could be a bit cleaner, the cleaning agent was causing it to be sticky. I had the waitress re wipe it. Just feels weird when the table is sticky.
Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday, ate outside, which was a little loud but that was ok! It was expensive but the food and service were amazing!
I have never received such terrible service throughout all my experiences dining out. The quality of service was hands down awful and not only did we as a group feel neglected throughout our service, it was as if we did not exist. It had taken 28 minuets to even be greeted, let alone an additional 25-30 to receive our drinks and have our food order taken. Server was slightly rude and had little regard for overall mood towards the service. I worked as a server for nearly 5 years and in no way was this acceptable service for a meal that on the pricier side.
Excellent outdoor experience, fantastic sushi. The train is loud though, but if you can deal with that, Union outside is a must-stop spot.
Sushi was over priced and mediocre. Beef skewers had sour taste. Never patronizing again.
Amazing food!!!! Great service. This was our second time dining at Union Sushi and Barbeque Bar.
We’ll be back!!!!!
Great place, Just to note outside seating is below CTA so gets a bit loud every now and then.
My husband and I went for our 10 year anniversary. Our hostess was extremely helpful and the food was delicious. We will be coming back again!
Good food, great service and really amazing menu
Great to get back there. Long time because...you know...Covid
Had a lovely dinner outside; only problem was the noise of the train and a car accident that happened at the intersection.
Always delicious and fresh.
Delicious. Great Service. I recommend it and I'll be back.
Good food, good service! The environment was good - I loved that they had dividers between each table for a separate space during COVID restrictions. I also loved how fast the food came out!
Food didn't disappoint and the cucumber margarita was delicious. I will definitely be back again soon!
Our sever was great; she was attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu. The food was amazing. Had the sushi sampler and the mushroom ramen and we didn’t have a single complaint. Overall a wonderful experience.
The truffles tuna was incredible!
The food was great, the Black Rice sampler was perfect!
Always a special experience at Union! The wait staff is the best in the city and the food is truly on another level. The black rice sampler is always a go-to and the cocktails are stiff with lots of flavor. Can’t wait to go back!
They were so accommodating and helped make our engagement celebration so special
Must try- the duck buffalo wing. Really delicious. We loved this hidden gem. Great food and service, a little noisy if you sit outside, but we didn't mind.
Meh service, food was good.
