Union Street Cafe Ratings and Reviews
What a great offer this 2-for 1 January is! The Union Street Cafe is a very enjoyable place anyway - the staff are friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is casual and buzzy, but best of all the food is delicious. to have all that for half the price is marvellous.
A group of 7 friends went here for a special meal. Food was variable - some good meals, others pretty average (and particularly for the price). The service however was poor throughout - we had to ask to order (both starters/mains, and again for puddings), ask for bread we’d ordered to be brought, and then there was a problem with the puddings - two of the ones we’d ordered weren’t available but this wasn’t said until the other puddings had arrived. We then had to ask three times for the bill - which took over 10 minutes to arrive! The only good service was from the sommelier. The ambiance was nice, but we were all put off returning or trying other Ramsay places.
Have been meaning to go here for a while as we are locals. First impression is that it’s a cool space with a buzz.
We were sat up on the first level which felt as though we were in the cheap seats. Service was ok but lacked personality.
The food was ok, albeit over seasoned, but a mix up in the order made the experience less than enjoyable and the fact that a charge is made for a side of bread (a lamentable slice or two with a drip of oil) added to the underwhelming experience.
Not going to return which is a shame as it ought to be on our repeat list.
Tricky one, as it wasn’t awful by any means, but the food didn’t live up to the billing on the menu and the taste was just a bit bland.
Rigatoni was filling on a cold December day, but lacked any strong flavours. Monkfish nicely presented but again lacking any flavour to excite. We shared a nice bottle of Gigondas and a chocolate torte that illicited laughter given its resemblance to something our Alsatian had produced, but again no wow factor.
All in all £100 a head didn’t really feel like something I want to repeat! Shame really as the ambiance was promising when we arrived!
Generally everything was fine. But that’s the problem, who goes to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant for a “ok” experience. We left £200 for dinner for two and I would cannot say I really enjoyed it. Service was good, environment nice and cozy. But plates are overpriced for what they are.
Awful experience. Service welcome staff not very welcoming. Service staff not very experienced and fussing for no apparent reason. Restaurant also does not have an identity. Food mediocre for the price tag. I have experienced better at other GR venues. This was very very disappointing
I did enjoy my meal (and some of the service too) but my friend did not, as it was far too salty. When I tried to talk with the senior service member about the salt issue my question was not answered and I was made to believe that it is rich rather than too salty (both dishes were heavy on salt, and as a cook I can taste different things quite well). Nevertheless some members of the service (our waiter, sommelier and the receptionist) were lovely and made this experience pleasant. Thanks!
Lovely neighbourhood restaurant. Been coming here for years, in a group or alone. Love the food here, everything is good, from the nibbles to desserts. And not forgetting the cocktails. The service is friendly and warm. It's one of those feel good restaurants.
At the higher end of the price scale for anti pasti dishes but the dishes were original and very flavourful. We decided to order a load of anti pasti, snacks and sides instead of going for mains, which gave us lots of dishes to pick at matched with some good wine- the tastes were great. A cut above your average Italian eatery with a price to match.
My Pork neck was tough , not chewable and bloody . Not suitable for me therefore sent it back. Waiter was pleasant and offered me pasta instead however meat options on menu are limited to lamb or pork. I was disappointed as my husband dines here frequently with work and had given it great reviews however our experience was not great on the night.
