We had a great experience! Crystal our server was amazing! The food was great! Highly recommend this venue for a larger group experience!
Just OK. Certainly not worth the money. $36 for three scallops. And eight dollars for bread! Small pours on the drinks. Nice to try but will not return. Too many other good choices.
Food was great, atmosphere an oasis of calm. The total experience. Can’t wait to return.
We were in a dark corner right up against a wall of fire wood. Terrible setting for dinner.
Everyone was quiet during the meal...it was so good nobody wanted to waste the time talking! Fantastic from the oysters to start to the Walnut dulce de leche for dessert. The bartender is also an artist!
It was perfect! The restaurant is so beautiful with wonderful views of the holiday bustle in the city of Pittsburgh. The wait staff were wonderful and attentive. The menu and food were amazing! A perfect day as I earlier mentioned. I plan on going back soon!
Union Standard always delivers on fantastic food, service, and experience. One of the best trained staff I’ve experienced. Everyone knows and understands the menu. Well done by all.
The food was terrific - well prepared, thoughtful and creative, and delicious. Our server, Eric, was very professional - friendly, attentive, helpful with choices - both food and wine, and knowledgeable regarding all on the menu. The bill was more than we usually spend, but that's what we come to Pittsburgh for - first rate food and fine restaurant experiences. Worth every penny.
Very good food as useual. Server not pleasant and in a hurry but food delivery was quick, hot and nicely plated.
Overall, very impressed with this place. The staff was super attentive and knew the menu inside and out - which is saying something considering that it often changes! The table preserved scallops, salmon, strip steak, and lamb sirloin. Also, shishito peppers, oysters, potato bread, and the shareable fries. Absolutely everything was cooked to perfection, excellent balance of flavors. I can’t say enough. 10/10 dining experience!
Never disappointed when we eat brunch at Union Standard.
Uneven service, uneven food. At these price points will not be returning.
First experience here. We had a lovely dinner. Started with piping hot squash and pear soup. Wonderful, esp since there’s nothing worse than being served cold soup! Best scallops ever and delicious pork. Veggie accompaniments and risotto all tasty and nicely done. Outstanding carrot cake served with small dash of sea salt finished off a great dinner. Service excellent. Definitely will go back and recommend trying.
Very expensive drinks and very small pours. Food was good but menu could be expanded a little.
First and last time dining at a Union Standard. I was eager to try this restaurant in downtown Pittsburgh and hoping it would live up to the hype. Sadly was very disappointed with the food. We had to send back a pasta dish which was undercooked and completely lacking in flavor. Other dishes were also lacking in flavor. Final bill was quite overpriced for the poor quality of food we received. Will not dine here again!
We got there for a late dinner and had a GREAT meal with delicious wine! We’ll be back next time we come to Pittsburgh!
Best happy hour in Pittsburgh. Oysters were fantastic and dinner was even better.
Great food and great service! Had a wonderful time!
This was my second visit. It is a popular spot in heart of downtown. Nicely varied menu of meat and seafood. I had the luscious butternut squash and pear soup and then the pork porterhouse — a large and delicious platter of sliced pork accompanied by sweet potatoes and collard greens. Very tasty!
This place does get quite noisy and crowded in the bar area especially.
Great place for seafood. The menu is not large, but a nice mix of fish and meats. Each dish tens to be unique mix of flavors. The seared scallops came with wilted kale, shrimp risotto, and pork belly. Very nice.
Waitress was not personable. It was busy but she appeared distracted. Food was good.
Brunch was quick and very good. Service was mediocre at best.
The restaurant was not busy for our 5:30 reservation and we were seated in the table next to the bathroom on the second level. So we had a view of the patrons going to the bathroom or the construction dumpster outside the window.
The food and service were amazing. Highly recommend the Sunday sauce small plate!
Knowledgeable servers, great drinks, excellent oysters, delicious soups. This is a farm to table restaurant that is clearly operated by a chef who knows his business. It's well worth the trip
The food really let them down this time despite great service and a cool ambience. Have eaten here many times but we won’t be returning.
The food selections were all extremely tasty and the service was prompt/attentive. While the location was on a downtown street corner (no views) the interior was really modern and comfortable at the same time. The shrimp & grits dish and collard greens were fantastic (and we were visitors with origins from the Carolinas!) I would highly recommend the cuisine though the menu selections are were not extensive, every item chosen was great. Best meal while visiting Pittsburgh.
Service was super slow... we waited 15 minutes to even get some water. But the food was excellent. Would recommend.
I came in for brunch with three others. I must preface with the fact that some of our party was running very late and we had somewhere to go after so I did not have time to insist the staff try to fix my meal. That being said neither the food runner or our server ever asked if our food came out right. I ordered the standard with poached eggs. The water from the poached eggs diluted the gravy and made a soupy mess that ruined the biscuit. The poached eggs came out very hard boiled. The meal in general was clearly designed with love but the staff fell short in executing or caring to fix it. The bar made some great cocktails and I had heard great comments about the food and drinks here so it was disappointing to be disappointed. I am not likely to plan to return after that experience but I wouldn't say no to a happy hour there.
We voted this our best dining experience on our romantic weekend trip to Pittsburgh. One of us got the scallops and the other got the vegetarian fried butternut squash & radicchio salad. We ordered the French fries as an appetizer & sprinkled them on our salad. Our waiter said that is the Pittsburgh way. Great service with a fantastic sense of humor.
Great food and great atmosphere. Staff is friendly and efficient.
We went to the Halloween function in 2018 when we came to Pittsburgh then. This was the first time eating a “regular” dinner there. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The atmosphere was awesome. Downtown Pittsburgh is better because of this restaurant. It is a place that I would go more often if I lived closer to the city. When I do go to Pittsburgh, it is the number 1 restaurant to make sure that I am eating dinner.
Wait staff was super friendly- our waiter in particular knew where every part of our meal was sourced and told us facts on it- made for a learning experience as well as a great dining experience. Will be back!
Third year running we were here for a dinner after a hockey game and once again it was amazing. Yes it is a little pricey but SO worth it, the appetizers were awesome (amazing crab, bread and oysters). Just can’t say enough about our server, wish I remembered her name. But we WILL be back next year!!
The experience was fine, food good. Polenta was bland, but the walleye and puréed parsnips were very good. Dessert was really good.
We were in town for a conference and this was across from our hotel. We had a wonderful time with very attentive service and excellent food. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairings. A great was had by all.
Went to Union Standard before a show as it is very convenient to the theater. The mussels and warm potato bread were outstanding. The rest of the entrees were rather average for the higher cost. It was a nice place to try but won’t be on our return list.
A bartender at another restaurant suggested the brunch at Union Standard & I totally trust industry people about where to eat and drink. We were not disappointed. The Bloody Maria was spiced perfectly with a generous pour of tequila. We enjoyed the Avocado Toast, Mesculan Salad, Steak & Eggs and the Standard Breakfast- 2 eggs [I opted for poached, pork belly that melted in my mouth, a home-made biscuit, smoked onion gravy & fingerling potatoes. Every bite was excellent. Our server, Crystal, was warm and friendly and took great care of us. She talked about the food like she made it herself. I love when a server authentically likes the food they're bringing you. We will be back again and again. Plus, want to check out their Sunday evening music, $1 oysters & 1/2 priced bottles of wine.
I like to support farm to table. But even they need to be responsible in giving value which I just didnt feel was present. Root soup was reportedly very good.
I would recommend this restaurant but also recommend they bring a flashlight. Perhaps it was where we were sitting-in a small booth in the back by the bar-but we literally had to use our phone to read the menu. But, we didn’t want to eat while holding the phone in the other hand.
I truly am not exaggerating. We did not know what color our food was until we opened the go box when we got back to the hotel. It was delicious regardless of what color it was!!
