Union Standard was amazing - as always!! The freshest seafood in the city!
It was perfectly fabulous!
Decided to sit in a booth at the bar, but could not read the menu due to very poor and I mean poor lighting. Not sure why it has to be that dark that you cannot read the menu without turning the light on your cell phone to see the menu. We moved to the dining room to a table and had much better ambiance.
We went for brunch and all of us were very impressed by our meals. Everything was so fresh tasting and well-made. I highly recommend the donuts!
As always, phenomenal food, service, and company.
We were underdressed but still enjoyed our meal. It was expensive but food was good.
Bar booth seating was incredibly dark to the point of not being able to read the menu, beer/cider was served in warm glasses, waiter recommended baked blue crab appetizer 15 minutes after we ordered the said baked blue crab starter. Cashed out and went down the street, much better experience there.
The raw oysters are always a hit and this time were particularly tasty. I always appreciate how the staff/kitchen is accommodating with my food allergies. Both the ribs and the scallops were cooked perfectly and the sides are unique combos.
The ambiance and the service were exceptional and very enjoyable. I was disappointed with my food, although admittedly my expectations were high and remained high initially in my visit. I thought the blue crab dip was bland and needed salt, at the least. The cauliflower soup was good though a bit greasy and the croutons also were greasy. The steak looked undercooked, even for a medium. The char on it also felt too strong. Overall, the steak dish felt like it lacked acidity. Would have been helped greatly by some chimichurri sauce. I would come back and give it a shot but maybe not before trying some other places first. Thank you for the high quality service though!
Amazing! A+ from start to finish!
It was an amazing dining experience! The service was attentive, over the top friendly and fast never had to ask for anything. The food was absolutely dynamite!!! Our steak tartar and potato bread were fantastic for the appetizers. For our main course the monkfish wrapped in bacon just melted in your mouth and was paired perfectly with its sides and sauces and the pork chop cooked to perfection, the collard greens OMG!!! To die for.... We will be back!!! Oh and our drinks were wonderfully perfect we each had 2 with dinner!!!
The steak tartar and the pork chop are outstanding. I dine out quite often and consider the quality the food and our server whose name escapes me to be great
Valentine’s Day dinner, excellent service, great food, but I don’t think it was worth $170 inc tip. That’s serous steakhouse money, not 1) vday tasting menu + the pork chop + one house cab + an old fashioned. I mean it was excellent food and our waitress was extremely attentive but I don’t think the value was there.
Went for lunch and was impressed by the large salad portion. The service was great- everyone was friendly and personable!
Perfect "Pre-Heinz/Benedum/Cabaret/Byham/Bricolage" dinner. Drinks are fast and large, waitstaff very friendly and solicituous of your time and the food's great, not too heavy. In fact, the Kale Salad was so good, I bought some Kale and chopped it up the way they do, pulverized some croutons into crouton crumbs the way they do and ate it the next day...and the next.
It was a great experience would love to go back a again.
Good food, good service, table upstairs where I could have a normal volume conversation - great experience.
The service and the food was amazing. I would definitely come back many times.
Food is fantastic, have been there for both brunch and dinner . Fantastic greeting when you walk in, very attentive . We longed for their desserts but had been surprised when a menu wasn’t given to us or an option for any kind of coffee / dessert after our meal, just the presentation of the check. A bit of a turn off but none the less, waitress was nice and the food was phenomenal.
Straub’s on tap gets me every time. Perfect with the trout mousse.
Great service. Amazing food.
We chose the restaurant because it was a half block from our hotel. We had an evening event so we needed to be served and leave in an hour. When we arrived they asked immediately if we had an evening engagement, seated us immediately and the waitress, who was absolutely fantastic, took our order and made sure we had everything we needed on time so that we could relax while enjoying our cocktails, salad, entree and dessert. The food was absolutely delicious- I had the pork chop, my wife the salmon. Everything perfectly prepared and perfectly seasoned. The waitress made sure we had everything we needed without out being too intrusive. It was a memorable dinner outing. We will return when we can enjoy an extended leisurely meal.
Always like this spot for lunch during work but had the chicken pie which had undercooked veggies. Everyone else liked their meals however (steak salad, fries, side salad)
We really enjoyed our food, the atmosphere, and the service. All in all a really pleasant experience.
This is one of the few places Downtown that offers food for lunch that is not just sandwiches - I had the confit duck entree, and it was lovely! Reservations recommended if you're wanting to eat in the noon hour, when it gets pretty busy.
This is a really nice space with ample seating upstairs and downstairs. The food is really good and I think you get a lot for the dollar amount you are paying. Yes, it is expensive, but the quality of the food is worth it. I have not had a bad meal here.
convenient central meeting place for friends. Great service, yummy belinis and lunch selection.
Waitress was very attentive, food was delicious. Casual atmosphere. I would recommend the place to my friends.
Food and service were both very, very good. This was our second visit and we probably will return. It is pricey, which is why we don't give it 5 stars. A very nice place for a special occasion dinner.
The bare tables left a more casual dining feel than were supported by the menu prices.
We enjoyed our overall evening, but the food at Union Standard was just ok. I had the strip, which was well cooked, but the Brussels sprouts were barely cooked. Most were too hard to eat. My husband had the butternut squash patties, and one was great, but the other had large pieces of barely cooked butternut squash in it. To be fair, they were busy, and we were full so we didn't say anything. The ice cream sandwich dessert was amazing.
It took us 30 minutes to get our first cocktail and even though waitress acknowledged slow service the issue continued. Our appetizers came out sporadically; our second round of cocktails took a long time and by the time dinner was served we were all annoyed. Manager comped our first round of cocktails and apps but surprised at the lack of service considering it was restaurant week.
Had the food been amazing we would consider coming back but we won’t.
Tried this restaurant during Pittsburgh Restaurant Week and had the special menu. The beet and goat cheese salad was superb as was the lemon soufflé dessert. The chicken entree would have been improved if a sauce for the chicken had been included.
WONDERFUL SERVICE by Eric.
DELICIOUS food and cocktails.
We went out for my birthday and noted it on OpenTable. I was so surprised when Eric mentioned it. He went over and above for us and he was honestly the best server we have ever had!
The food was divine. My husband had the short rib and polenta. I had the ribeye pork chop. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Cannot wait to go back!
I would recommend Union Standard for the creativity of it's dishes and for the convenient location to Mellon Square. The staff was friendly and welcoming.
My friend and I went to Union Standard for lunch during restaurant week to try some place new (3 course pre-set menu). We were VERY disappointed. What we were able to enjoy of the food we ordered, was good. However, we had to take our main course and dessert to-go as the person who was in charge of making sure orders weren't forgotten - FORGOT OURS! Don't think I'll go back even if I have more time at a majorly leisure pace.
This was our first visit...thank you Restaurant Week but not our first tasting. We had enjoyed a sampling at a Taste Buddies and were impressed which brought us to their restaurant. The meal was amazing and the service outstanding. It was a wonderful experience from the time we greeted through our meal and ending with three stratified customers.
The food was creative and absolutely delicious. My husband and son ordered from the special menu (all amazing) and I had a salad with salmon. Also amazing!
Thank you to everyone at Union Standard!
We went for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week and had a really great meal.
Visited for lunch during restaurant week and it was fantastic. The service was attentive but not hovering and the value was excellent. And the best part was indeed the food. The endive & apple salad was a crisp & tart way to begin the meal, the swordfish with shrimp stew & crispy leeks was perfectly cooked with a terrific mix of flavors and textures, the lemon meringue pot de creme with ginger snap was an ideal "not too sweet" end to a great lunch. I'll be back sooner than later.
