Excellent food and service. The lobster was outstanding! Best I have had, super fresh. Overall, would go to Union again without question.
We love Union! The menu offers so many amazing choices that it’s hard to pin down just 1! I had the Maine crab pasta appetizer and it was amazing! My husband had Korean spare ribs and it was a delicious messy app! I had fresh halibut and my husband the braised lobster entrees and their freshness and taste was out of this world! We made sure to have dessert- the blueberry cheesecake and this amazing chocolate pudding concoction that I couldn’t get enough of! We can’t wait to go back. Our server was so nice and knowledgeable and funny, she is an asset to Union!
it was a lovely discovery in the Gannet building, the new Hotel.....across from City Hall in Portland....Well decorated and good food and drink.
We went for our anniversary. From the moment we stepped in, we felt as though it was a special occasion. We were greeted with, “Happy Anniversary”, given a card signed by the staff and complimentary desserts. The food was phenomenal and exceeded our expectations. We really enjoyed the freshness of the ingredients used and that the star of each dish showed through. The meals were filling, without being excessive, the waitstaff was friendly considerate and knowledgeable. We would go back again for any special day or just for dinner again! Well worth the trip!
Thoroughly enjoyed my recent visit to Union. It was a business dinner. Our server was the best, gave us enough space to conduct our business but attentive enough to have what we needed.
The food was innovative and yummy.
I would recommend Union.
Great food and service in a trendy open kitchen motif.
Spent a few days in Portland
Made reservations before we left New York
This was a great choice
Everything was fabulous. I flew in from Florida to meet my Portland friends for a reunion. I chose Union from the website description, for the various food choices on the menu (to meet all the different needs/tastes of our group), for the option to make a reservation, for a table large enough for our group, and for the location in the Old Port. Maria was our superb "caretaker" at tableside. At the end of our meal, the Head of Dining came to make sure we enjoyed everything. A resounding "yes" from everyone at our table.
I had a terrific breakfast here with two out of town guests. I've been before (mostly to the bar out back), and I love the art in the lobby and downstairs (and not only because I am married to one of the artists!) I am a little hard of hearing so really appreciate it when a restaurant in quiet enough for real conversation, as I always go out for the food but also to enjoy the people I am with. I can't stand noises venues, no matter how terrific the cook. The meal suited my tastes (vegetarian, gluten free, healthy) and my carnivore friends, and the waitress could not have been more lovely.
Best meal in Portland!
Our waiter was AMAZING. Super nice and attentive. The meat was delicious.
Elegant dining almost ng with great service and a friendly kitchen that met all dietary concerns.
We come here every time we come to Portland. With 2 small children it's nice to see menu options that are of good quality (finally a kids menu that doesn't just have Mac and cheese or chicken fingers). Good size portions and delicious. Service is great as well. Friendly staff.
We had dinner here before while staying at the Press Hotel during a blizzard and had fond memories of the quality of the food and the kindness and professionalism of the staff. So I chose it for my husband's birthday. The memories we're still valid and the meal was excellent. The server gave us extra wine and free dessert because of the birthday. The only downside was the noise level.
The Food , the Staff, and the atmosphere are all the best of the BEST!
Loved the ambiance and the farm to table menu! Service was phenomenal, very attentive yet gave my business partner and I the privacy we were looking for.
I had the poached lobster with vegetables and hush puppies and it was outstanding!
Limited menu - a few small plates, a couple salads, a few entrees. Pricey. Great service.
Everything about Union is wonderful except the noise level. We could not recall ever having been in a restaurant with more clatter.
From roasted goat cheese to smoked tomato soup to four delightful entrées--seared almond, a crab pasta, broiled scallops and pork tenderloin--to a delightful side vegetable of rainbow beets to a decadent deconstructed dessert of blueberry cheesecake; everything was prepared and presented perfectly. Impeccable service without rush or unnecessary interruptions and specialty drinks, as well as the wine selections, proved excellent also. I could find nothing to criticize about our leisurely two hour dinner.
Had a great anniversary dinner. The seared tuna and seared goat cheese apps were great. My wife's hanger steak was perfectly cooked, and my pot roast was delicious.
Took the kids and everyone loved their meals! 9yr old loved the kids pasta, 6yr old loved his roast chicken, I was in heaven with the lobster dish and crispy brussels sprouts and hubby thought the crab pasta and crispy cod was outstanding. Great service, and beautiful restaurant. A+
It was a pleasant celebratory dinner! The food was delicious especially the apps and the dessert! Would go back! A little on the pricey side but worth it!
Was quite disappointed. Food just a C plus.Oysters bland ( in Maine! ) Seared tuna had an odd flavor-Lobster dish good, but not great and heavy on potatoes. But the most annoying thing was the cheesy waitress under pouring the wine. really. Pretty room.
This is my wife’s favorite restaraunt in Portland Maine. As we are often in Maine around her birthday we dine here yearly. Portland was just named America’s restaraunt city of the year by Bob Appetite Magazine. Union is one of the tops in Portland Maine. Always outstanding
Very pleasant experience. The staff is very kind, polite, and service-oriented. Excellent vegan meal (tempeh).
Our meal was exceptional from beginning to end, from the bread with sea salted butter to the whipped cheesecake. Union exceeded our expectations.
Union is much more than a “hotel restaurant”—every dish planned with evident thoughtfulness, which sharp, well informed waitstaff help to maneuver.
This is a must do in the Portland dining scene!
Don’t be turned off by the fact that it is in a hotel . Execeent preparation of fresh ingredients.
Kudos to chef and service staff
My husband and I ate at Union last night to celebrate his birthday. It was our first experience and we loved it. I am gluten intolerant and eat dairy free and they were accommodating without any hassle. We love good food and the service was spot on. I would recommend this restaurant for any occasion. The location is also very convenient for dinners prior to seeing a show at Merrill Auditorium or going to the theater in Portland.
The menu was very original, but the food was great. The service was good also. The only problem we had was the noise level. It was difficult to hear each other at times.
Especially amazing this visit! The food is beautiful and perfectly seasoned! The chocolate pudding alone is worth the trip!
Food and service were excellent. We were seated over the a/c vent so it got really cold but it was tolerable. I highly recommend the Rye Presse and the Pot Roast.
Great experience . Wonderful cocktails
Menu is different but great food.
Will visit again when I go back
Love Union. The food is terrific. We were sat
Hosted a client to lunch. It was great. Excellent service, excellent food. I ha d the seared salmon entree and still crave it. Perfectly cooked salmon on top of a red curry coconut sauce with zucchini and bok choy. I had to resist dipping my fingers in the sauce.
Second visit. Had cocktails, bread/butter, appetizers, salad, and entrees. All top-notch. The brussel sprouts appetizer (in particular) is spectacular. Beef and pork entrees were wonderful too. Server (bill says Maria C) was very attentive, and kept an eye on her tables at a distance. A glance was all that was needed and she was there when we were ready to order, and she seemed to keep an eye on where we were in our meal and what we might need (without us asking).
Unexpectedly impressed. Forget the waterfront, this was a fantastic meal. Cheese platter, hoisin beef and a very creative and delicious cheesecake for dessert...loved. every. bite. Can’t wait to try dinner...!
food good, service not good...kitchen made many errors in the orders...too many good restaurants in portland to put up with mediocre experience
