Oyster House Clam Chowder
A Boston Classic
The Lobster Pot
New England Hard-Shell Lobsters. Boiled Or Broiled: Medium (1¼ - 1½ lbs.) or Large (2lbs.)
I would recommend this place for lunch. My partner and I wanted a nice seafood dinner, and this is a great touristy spot neither of us had tried before. The fried food was okay, the salmon was flavorless, and the cocktails felt like I was drinking straight shots. (
In town from CO. Remembered great food from a visit s few years ago. Food was excellent, Bobby was great!
Food was acceptable, historic location was fantastic! Great service. Glad we went.
Great ambiance, seafood was fresh and prepared delicately. John was an exceptional server answering our questions efficiently, provided suggestions, and introduced us to the history of the restaurant. Definitely will keep on my list to always visit on my future trips to Boston.
We were greeted promptly. Service was amazing. Food was good.
Our server was amazing. She surprised my nephew with a birthday cake and a little gift when she found out it was his birthday. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful, but the food just wasn’t very good, especially for the prices.
The food was nothing special. The historical value of the restaurant was the drawing point.
It’s been a while since I’ve eaten here and it was nice to return to relive memories of good times with good friends. With the exception of the food, everything lived up to my expectations. The food was not of the same high quality as I’d expected. The clam chowder was just ok ( Legal Seafood has better chowder) and the hot lobster roll was cold. The lobster was flavorless and the roll was dry. Legals has as better lobster roll as does Luke’s. Not sure what’s happened but I sure hope things improve. It’s too iconic of a restaurant to just serve mediocre food.
Only one other table with diners staff was attentive but lackluster and made the special occasion (birthday)not so special
Not just a touristy restaurant, food is legit! Had a couple drinks too, delicious!
We were seated in the very back of the restaurant where few customers were.
Service was the kind where you ask for something (when they finally look over at you) & they run over & say yes! I’ll get that for you right away. And then you still have to get their attention to remind them that you needed something & that they were going to get it RIGHT AWAY….uh, no…. This happened several times during our 45-55 min dinner. Again - quiet - no ambiance. Clam chowder had a good taste but it was lukewarm. We tried to get our waitress over but to no avail. The food was mediocre at best. Definitely better crab cakes elsewhere.
When we were leaving, they walked us through a couple of areas where several customers were seated & there was a delightful ambience …
…the one star was for the cornbread - my husband said - this taste just like that kind out of the box you make sometimes….yep Jiffy cornbread mix from a box. So the boxed cornbread is the only reason we even gave them a star…
Tourist trap & they must have an incognito ‘reviewer’ on staff - because we could only find good reviews’.
El lugar muuuy bonito y la comida deliciosa.
Best clam chowder I’ve ever had. It can be a bit expensive but soooooo worth it!! Highly suggest getting the oysters and clam chowder to start, gotta try the salmon as well. Cooked to perfection.
Great atmosphere food was delicious even if it was a little over priced. Parking voucher was key!
Classic Boston restaurant with great seafood. Clam chowder was excellent and the crab cakes were perfectly prepared. Great ambiance and fun history lessons on the walls. Super friendly staff!
Food & service were very good. But the (ladies) restroom was a complete dump! Both toilets were clogged and hadn’t been flushed all day. Really disgusting and unsanitary…especially in current Covid situation where clean is everything! Will rethink ever returning here.
Great food - expensive and plentiful. One couple was super loud and annoying
It’s always one of my favorite places to go
Rushed us through New Years Eve dinner. They should not take 9:15pm reservations if they don't want to service you. Food wasn't worth the prices.
Best Oystahs evah!!
The stuffed clams are amazing
For such a historic building, it’s a shame that the service and ambiance felt like stepping into an Applebee’s.
Historic place is a must do restaurant in Boston
It was great food but overly priced. I wish there were better options for seafood that wasn’t fried. The oyster bar wasn’t available for most of the patrons
We went for the Oysters, and they didn’t have oysters…
Friendly waiter. Food just average for the price. Disappointing that the Union OYSTER House was out of Oysters! Compared to other restaurants we visited during our stay in Boston, the food was just average for the price. We would not recommend if we had friends visiting Boston and we would not go again if we visit again.
Our waitress was so cute!
I’m glad I went to say I’ve been to this classic, but everything was mediocre at best.
Plenty of good choices on the menu and everything we ordered was excellent. Waitress was there when we needed her and put no pressure on us to order extras.
We have no complaint with the prices or the portion sizes. Food quality was great!
Classic rustic and all things goodness. Food was impeccable. The only complain was that the table next to us was literally scream talking. Noise level was not the best controlled in this setting. Food was just wow. Corn bread as the appetiser already got us drooling and we even ordered some to takeaway without any costs. Woo Hoo!
For the historical value, this place was great. However, the food was only fine - the shrimp cocktail was ice-cold, for example, and the seafood platter was fried (not mentioned on the menu). Staff was great.
The food was uneven...appetizers and soup were good but the main courses were almost unedible. They were cold and mushy and flavorless. Service was ok... but this is not a fine dining establishment and the prices are way too high for bad food.
Food was cold, service was awful. We sat and sat waiting for food, drinks , refills and butter. I came here as a kid a few times every year. But I’m not sure I’ll come back as an adult.
Fresh New England cuisine with the ambience of the 18th to 21st centuries. A delicious and historical experience.
Had a much better experience when we last visited several years ago.
Food quality and taste has gone downhill. Has the lazy man’s lobster — plenty of lobster but flooded in breadcrumbs and served with choice of rice (ok), carrots, mash potatoes (with lobster!!!), or fries (and it wasn’t the kids menu).
This place is living off its name and location.
Won’t be coming back.
I'm graduate student and my babe came to see me recenly. I planned a nice dinner and my choice to be here was great. My babe loves to eat oyster and she said this is the best oyster ever. The salmon is good as well.
Live up to our expectations! The food was delicious. The waitstaff was kind. I would recommend this for an outstanding Boston experience.b
Food was good, . Had the backed scrod, classic basic recipe well done. The server was attentive and we enjoyed a 2.5 lunch with out feeling rushed.
