Oyster House Clam Chowder
A Boston Classic
The Lobster Pot
New England Hard-Shell Lobsters. Boiled Or Broiled: Medium (1¼ - 1½ lbs.) or Large (2lbs.)
Overpriced for little food received. Butterfly shrimp were not butterfly and small. Both entrees felt like appetizers and overpriced. Many other better options in city.
We really enjoyed the Union Oyster House. Our server was so nice and she gave us excellent service. She said she had worked there since 1982. Wow that says a lot about this restaurant! Great local food to experience the taste and history of Boston!
Not impressed. Small portions. Very expensive for size of portions. Dirty. Cobwebs on wall/shelf. Waitress going through the motions as if we were tourists.
The food prices and ambiance were not worth the value of this restaurant. They did not have a great selection of beer since they were out of craft beers. Food was tasteless. Left after the appetizer.
Justice, our server, was so nice and the food was absolutely delicious!
We had tons of people tell us we must visit UOH on our vacation to Boston - it is definitely a staple location! We loved the atmosphere and location. The service was slow but it was a busy Saturday night. Glad we had reservations since the wait times for 6pm was 1 hour and 45 mins. I had the clam chowder which was good and my husband had the shrimp and scallops which was really good. Complimentary cornbread was a nice touch. Overall, wouldn’t come back a 2nd time but it was a fun experience for our first trip to Boston!
Waiter, Justin, was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and made the experience great.
We ate lunch outside. We had the fresh catch of the day (haddock, blackened) and a cold lobster roll. Both were delicious. I love eating outside, so we did that - but if you do, be sure to also take time to go inside, based on the history of this restaurant!
Great staff and environment!!!
Was not impressed. Historical restaurant serving mediocre food to tourists.
Oysters were fresh but food was very average. Would not recommend for dining unless you really want to do the tourist thing and say you went here.
It was everything we expected but better. To sit inside history and eat where some of the founding fathers walked was exciting.
Didn’t know what to expect but it wasn’t this level of food: meh.
Make a reservation! Request a booth if you’re skinny enough. Clam chowder.
The historic value was fantastic, and our server was so helpful and kind. The clam chowder was delicious, but the lobster was over cooked for the lobster rolls and the seafood plate could have handled more seasoning. The kids (10 and 12) were not impressed with the "kid menu", so they ordered off of the main menu. We had a great time visiting with family from the area and our daughter made some great birthday memories. She loves history, so just being at the Union Oyster House was a huge gift for her :-)
As a party of two senior people, we felt a big ignored as the waitress focused on the much larger party.
Went for an earlier dinner (5pm) and everything was delicious! Absolutely would recommend to others and return.
The waitress was very accommodating and the food was good! Excellent service. We will go back!
Our waitress was fabulous!
Loved the restaurant and the history surrounding it. Clam chowder and oysters were super but they did not have Saltine’s for my oysters. That’s the way I was taught to eat them....on a Saltine cracker! They were good though.
The food and service were great! So glad I made a reservation. I got seated right away when I arrived. My waiter, Justice, was absolutely awesome. He deserves a raise!
Lovely atmosphere, great service, reservations are a must if you want to get in.
Wellfleet Oysters we’re outstanding! Service was prompt, courteous and professional. Prices were in range of other eateries. Only a minor issue was the crumb topping on the Boston baked scrod was a little too wet.
The food was ok. I have allergy to shellfish so obviously could not enjoy the dish for which the restaurant is known. Picked pan seared scallop and shrimp with tomato sauce over rice and the clam chowder. The flavor was bit on the bland side for these two dishes. The staff was friendly and the ambience for outdoor seating was relaxing enough and good for people watching. Overall a bit overpriced.
We loved this place! The food, history, service, and atmosphere was superb!
Really enjoyed our seafood dinners at this historic restaurant. Had an early reservation (4:15) and were able to sit in the Kennedy booth, so that was an extra plus!
This place has been around for a long time. Dinner reservations are a must. Order the special of the the day or risk disappointment. Lobster roll was the worst I had. More roll than lobster. Drinks and service was outstanding.
I think we had the worst table in the whole restaurant which is a little disappointing because it was our first time there and as we walked around the restaurant was not full and yet we had a table with no view very cramped looking at the kitchen door
The only bonus to this is we had the very best server her name was Linda and she made our whole night so I guess sitting at the crummy table was a trade off for having the best service
Historic restaurant with friendly staff and delicious seafood.
The scallops were perfectly cooked and the clam chowder was flavorful, but did not overpower the clams. I highly recommend the dish that has the tomato cream sauce, but cannot remember what it was called!
Service was horrible we were ignored food menu was very limited huge disapointment
This was my first time visiting Boston and was recommended union oyster house given its history. Had high hopes for its price point but the food + service was terrible. The restaurant was practically empty but our server found a way to take forever and chat baseball with another couple. Chowder was dull and the sampler was misleading on the menu. We figured not everything was fried, but indeed it was. Our server asked us how everything was, we shared our disappointment and he shrugged and walked away. Thanks Bud! We packed our uneaten food and ended up throwing it out. Do yourself a flavor, walk by or pose in front for your history instagram posts, just don’t go inside!
Great clam chowder and lobster roll. Very nice server who gave us a tour at the end.
Great ambiance. Excellent waitstaff. Ok bathrooms. Food was yummy
Typical tourist spot, Lots of memorabilia and history. the food was boring, and not that good. Our server was outstanding!
Not at all worth the wait or price. Over rated and a Mecca for tourist.
Molly was our server. She was very attentive. We had the clam chowder that was very good and a lobster salad. The chowder was very good as well when crumbling their sweet cornbread in it. Highly recommend looking at the memorabilia hanging on the walls.
Waitress was great. Drinks and food delivered in great time.
Wonderful waitress! Food was really good! Thanks for a great meal.
one of our favorite Boston restaurants, always visit when in town
